I would hate it if the Giver were banned, it’s so important to our society, because it basically reflects what could happen in the future or what’s happening now in our world. The idea that if you aren’t given choices, no mistakes will be made and how that doesn’t give anybody any wisdom seems so true, yet many don’t see it. Don’t ban this book, it is a window into our society.

The coolest thing about the story to me was that when I first read it I imagined everything was colorless and that actually was a plot point that confirmed what I saw in my head

The Giver is really similar to our public schools.

They are afraid us the future generation(s) will do something like this

I'll tell you what they are frightened by: the book doesn't conform to their knee-jerk liberal narrative; it basically portrays a straight line of logic, that says in an effort to create utopia, they created a dystopia, and that is something that is not acceptable to the Left-wing establishment.

My theory for the book: At the end Jonas died but when he was seeing happy things he was thinking about all of his loved ones when we was going to haven. (Gabe didn’t die) When Jonas saw the giver, it gave him his memories back and he remembered the sled. So his spirit helped Gabe down the hill and pushed him into safety. When Jonas could feel the wind on his face, it was because he was watching over Gabe and remembering what that felt like. Jonas is Gabe’s protector and in haven giving Gabe strength. When Gabe got to the bottom of the hill, people came to recuse him. Jonas could hear the singing in the house from the people who rescued him and the lights were from the same house. I don’t know it’s just a theory

If you don’t understand the ending or the book you must not have looked into the religious symbolism. Reread it Christian symbols

The only ending as I see it. Jonas and the giver have a special connection at this point. The giver is very aware that Jonas is about to die. He reminds him of the beauty of life, and what he is fighting for. That is why there is the music, to suggest the givers presence. I do believe that they survive. With he help of the giver through the tough time.

People are afraid of the reality of it. Also, the hints of sexual attraction.

So i watched the movie. Im going to read the book but i du know why this book is been challenged. It adresses the comunist utopia were there is no crime and everyone is equal. I come from cuba. I compared it to the movie. The indoctrination that they attempted on me matches 100% with the plase were the story takes place. The people that are challenging the book are cumunists and today we can see how they are been more possessive in universitys. Antifa. Feminists. Sjw. We need to stop them. This people can take freedom away from us just like they did in USSR and Cuba. Don't let it happen again.

I hated the book since I read it in middle school, as did all of my classmates. I used to think it was just the slow pace, the unsatisfying ending, and the credibility issues of anyone over 30 handing this to an adolescent and acting like they don't love sexual repression. This interview gives me another reason: the early chapters are supposed to be "seductive." We're supposed to like the idea of a ridiculous nanny state government wiping our asses and barking orders for every detail of our lives, which is the opposite of what any remotely mature person would want. If you aren't seduced by the idea of living under a totalitarian regime, Jonas turning against the Community feels less like an exciting twist and more like a stupidly obvious conclusion that the book dragged its feet to reach.

Seriously all of you complaining about the ending!! Didn't you get it? Jonas got to the Elsewhere and in Christmas day to be precise. The memory he cherished the most he was going to LIVE it. That was the best fucking ending ever! I really don't understand how someone would hate it!!!
