This is a comparison of an idea. Two answers to the same question. Two very different weapons but yet much the same. Two approaches from two different cultures separated by a vast distance and hundreds of years of time yet…. The American Bowie knife and the South African Okapi (cold steel kudu in this case). Snap cut vs flick. It all boils down to Climate, Culture and Technology. The roots, the...

While a heavy slap is a useful tool when preemptively striking, there are other options that may suit you better, especially at closer distances.

First aid is more important than taking people apart in the current environment
I don't quite need a cane yet but I do lean on a hickory hanbo I attached a knob grip to while pumping gas. Good info, thanks!
I heard you.
Wats that little folder?
rosecraftblades.com/product/modern-traditional-collection/
You should put that on a shirt. "World needs healers not butchers" amazing quote. But you are absolutely right.
I have the same endura. It's the best self defense knife
shirt says, "I wanna be formal, but I'm here to party." Good stuff.
Thank you for the answer sir, the Endura is one of my favorite folders along with the manix.
Good choice!
The guard on knife looks like a sai
I often get that comment. It is based on European parrying guards.
This reminds me of the Mediterráneo grip in esgrima de navaja.
Excellent demonstration! I've been studying Navaja fighting lately, and it's cool to see an American knifefighting technique.
Goddd dammmm
Please expound?
#3.
3 is almost perfect but it just sounds a little stuffy. I’m not sure how to fix that but I think the cover is better for just talking and it’s not meant to pick up other sounds very well. Your voice sounds good though
Thank you!
Great video, Sifu! I genuinely appreciate the lesson and how you expeditiously (1 minute 30 seconds) demonstrated the four-part template of human movement, which encompasses all hand-held bladed weapon-fighting martial systems and arts, while clearly explaining the ergonomic, philosophical, and theoretical principles for further understanding and application. This understanding of how the human body works should be part of the basic foundation of those training before they begin training! So many basic principles of human movement are unknown to the public. Thanks for sharing and keep these coming!
Thank you so much. This is why I put this stuff out there.
3 for sure. It avoided rubbing the mic around as you moved and allowed good capture of your speech
Thank you!
2 sounded muffled...1 sounded good to me...3 was better than 2 as it was less muffled
Thank you.
Hello, may I ask what is the purpose of putting a key ring on the endura hole? Thankyou. I'm training with a fox pikal, now. Best regards from Italy.
It is a Piper thing (a South African style). It mimics the ring on an okapi knife. It serves much the same purpose as the rings on a Chinese 9 ring broadsword.
Very good demonstration
" it's tighter...and you uncoil!". Well said. One of my newbs is setting up his first tire and your clip has been sent his way!
Interesting
Thanks for the video!! I think in capable hands a karambit can hold its own against a regular knife if they were skilled like you; but if someone has like you said a folder or small fixed blade and a little training I think they win more often then not.
I enjoyed this presentation. I will keep this and practice it. In a future video, could you speak to Footework? I had a small amount of fencing in college in the 80s, but I no longer move fluidly. knee replacements, and back injuries and surgeries have me moving rather mechanically, and much more slowly. I would enjoy a tutorial on simple foot work, and balance with maybe a note or two for those that have aged. in any case, thank you for this video, and for the time and expertise that it demonstrates you have accrued over the years.
I’ll see what I can do for you!
This man just turned me into John Wick in 1:30
Then my job here is done!! 😅😅😅
…all slashes
Except for the three thrusts at the end of the segment…. And the second level of the drill where the thrusts are added to each slash.
"We have prison systems." That feels like a mighty large double entendre.
Hahahah
Ill be honest with you. I carry knives for laboring. The idea of self defense with a knife isn't even on my list of things to do. BUT!!!!!! I am curious. And that is why I am subbed.
First
I've been looking for this.
Enjoyed your video..greetings from the Netherlands!! More bowie technics please, all I know from kali/knife fighting myself is using a "main gauche". But I can see where this can lead to.. a lot of flicking and backcuts.. you peaked my interest sir!!!
Stop slapping yourself. It’s dumb
With small blades, especially folding knives, I personally prefer the reverse grip if only the opponent, and especially many opponents are not armed with a knife, It is much safer for yourself, for your eyes and neck, in all levels of combat, clinch ,, ground, , You can maintain a full high boxing guard, box, strike with the end of the knife handle, strike with elbows and then with the blade, In a high guard, in defense against several opponents, the blade itself protects your head, and does not expose you to self-harm, with your own blade after hitting the opponent. Biomechanical cuts with the reverse held short blade are very strong and deep, even through clothing, if they are dealt like boxing punches, apercut and hook, Of course, your method is also correct, especially since the knife is generally We draw a folded shot with a straight grip, so it's worth practicing this as well
super , good dynamic
Is there a live blade version of the trainer your that can be bought?
It is A custom by JW Bensinger. “The Vermont knifesmith” you can find him on line.
Thanks for sharing! The Follow-up terminal strike after closing is crucial. End it quick!
Absolutely! The follow-up is key to minimizing the opportunity for the opponent to respond.
Wow! YT algorithm showed me a nice new channel
Almost exactly what is taught to beginners in Latosa Escrima. Very nice! Point always on target for them to step forward into, horizontal slices after the X,.....the stabs at the end is the only major variation. Stapping with blade edge out comes later for us. My latest uploud is so close to this even! Earned a subscriber....Looking forward to checking your stuff out.
I love the commonalities. If it works you will find a variation of it in most martial arts.
Thanks for sharing that
Thank you for sharing and inspiring
really good stuff here!
Whats your favorite bowies?
My Custom from Jim Bensinger
I was practicing a bit a few nights ago, trying to learn the snap cut on a few cereal boxes packed with newspaper. I was so surprised to see how much those dirty cardboard boxes scratched up my blade. Nothing a bit of mothers polish couldn't take care of, but still startled. Thanks for the lessons!
Cardboard is not the best for keeping blades pristine that is for sure.
Okp
Ok
What do u mean u been doin it for a long time? 😭 have u killed alot of ppl?
Based schizo upload.
Hahahahah
What if they have a gun
Find cover and concealment and call for close air support. Bit seriously for that sort of material you should check out Craig Douglas of Shivworks
Ok that makes sense. There's a few snap cut moves in gutter fighting and I didn't think it made any sense but I see that now. I think it works better with a bigger blade. I use an Ek Commando knife.
This was a good watch sir. 🙏
