26. Measuring the Dynamic Range of an iPhone
มุมมอง 20K21 วันที่ผ่านมา
You've seen us shoot anamorphic on the iPhone 15. So what does it take to make iPhone footage look cinematic? Is it the lens? The crew? The lights? In this episode, we go in depth into all of these things. Most importantly, we experiment with dynamic range on a XYLA chart - what it is, how to measure it, and why it matters. As always, thanks for your comments and questions - don't forget to sub...

Is there any way we can get this LUTs by Ian Verdavek at LightIron
you can make iphone look like cinema you just need to buy all of these bulky cinema accessories and five people and a real camera that you use to match the image in editing, i’d like to watch someone who actually doesn’t have access to these resources use the iphone as a solution, cuz this is a tonedeaf experiment, no average user will be able to replicate.
All that stuff added to an iPhone feels like: th-cam.com/video/aSG_23DTvKs/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=seedyrom 😂😂
Keeps getting better, so exciting!
I usually don’t subscribe to channel based on one video. But the quality storytelling and the execution is phenomenal on this. You have gained a subscriber, Keep making these.
Awesome video! Curious how that depth plugin compares to Davinci Resolve's built in depth plugin
9:04 Apple makes the iPhone 15 Pro Max for shooting Cinema videos 4K 10 bit HEVC, no shooting Cinema videos 4K 10 bit RAW or RGB.
You can shoot ProRes (RGB, intraframe) without the Cinema Mode enabled. Ironically, if you want the best (cinema) quality, you must avoid using Cinema Mode.
@@Strada-Tech So, I need removable lenses for my iPhone 15 Pro Max 1TB in order to shoot cinematic videos in ProRes 10-bit 422 RGB.
awesome! always great videos from you guys
Thew crew must have absolutely HATED the direction that X event must be shot on iPHone. WTF!!!
The iPhone Vs $999999 camera META will never stop yielding 🤣🤣🤣
do u share these LUTs? :O great stuff
If you sign up for the app at strada.tech and then send us an email at beta at Strada dot tech, we'll share with you some fun LUTs to try!
Fuck its to late. Already bought a RED Weapon for little travel videos.. xD
Can you try next time to shoot with a Samsung phone? to see if it's all just hype or the iPhone deserve it
Your work in this video is simply mesmerizing! The attention to detail and the cinematic quality you bring is unparalleled. I’m particularly intrigued by the blurring effect used. Could you kindly share which AI or software you employed for this? It adds such a professional touch to the production. Keep up the amazing work!
Thanks! The tool is called Blace Plugin. It's in the episode and it can be applied in After Effects to do depth analysis. DaVinci Resolve has a similar tool but I find easier to control depth-of-field blur in After Effects.
simply amazing
Looking great!
It’s not Ai, it’s not intelligent. Its just a tool to steal a bunch of information
This is great and produces amazing results…. How ever that is still a camera oriented rig and lens not iPhone native accessorising… for the next one use off the shelf consumer rigging like Neewer iPhone cage with 17mm Ulanzi/adapted anamorphic lens the little square one…(please don’t use Moment or Beastgrip if you really wanna go on budget). I think Production Design and PostProduction are the the real kings….
Why does he looks and sounds like the big bang theory guy?
Can’t wait to see your integration with FCP. Hopefully it will also support some sort of C2C capabilities with FCP and a cloud storage solution. Also hope you have the new Final Cut Camera and Live Multicam apps on your road map.
Episode 28 is slated to drop on June 4th and I think FCP fans will like it:)
@@Strada-Tech Thanks for that info - now I can stop going back to your channel every 5 minutes to make sure I catch the next episode! 😂
Super
Congrats Amritha❤
Love this format

I love your film stuff but I more loving your Startup workflow or how to run a startup in smartest way❤
Thanks for the comment:) We're trying to be honest, transparent, and truly chronicle the story of what we're creating - and there truly is no script. Every month yields new challenges and we try to share the progress, inspiration, and objectives with the community. I honestly have no idea where this channel goes, but as long as people like you find value in it, we'll keep doing it:)
😮
Please, samsung make it happen on s24
dude what an incredibly researched, informative, enjoyable, well produced and interesting video!!!!
Thanks for the compliment! Check out Episode 23 and 24! If you liked EP18 you'll love the episodes!
I love this Tagging by video content. I'd love to have a tool which could eye match my full res media to a frame in a low res reference mov. That would save me hours when conforming... (Or am I 'asking for a faster horse' 😂!?)
I think you're right - and I wanted to do a super deep-dive on tagging. So be sure to check out Episode 28 which is set to release on June 4th. But the idea of matching full res with low res media is 100% on our roadmap. We are conceptualizing a very different approach to make this work! Thanks for the comment!
This is life changing. I'm waiting to see how Strada interacts with popular editing softwares. What you guys are doing is just GREAT!
Thanks for the comment! We wanted to do a very deep-dive on tagging and how it can integrate with NLEs. So be sure to check out Episode 28 when it drops (scheduled for June 4th). we'll really break down the problems and solutions for logging and tagging.
Thank you.
you don't need an iphone to do that. that dof is working on any video
Great job, guys! Enjoyed watching it
Great storytelling.
Great vid, great advice.
Very exciting and unthinkable posibilities a few months ago. As a video editor and motion graphs designer, thank you! Also, I truly appreciate the way Strada uses AI, no for generating creative content, but on the contrary, to support us, creators of content.
Thanks for the feedback! If you're in LA on June 7-8, we'll be at Cinegear and showing some upgrades that weren't ready when we did this recap. So in a few weeks we're taking it up another notch! Plus we're inching closer to you being able to try it for yourself! Thanks for the comment:)
Can’t wait to watch this. So exited to see what’s possible.
So disingenuous... the iPhone does NOT do all that by itself, you need to put a big chunk of cash IN ADDITION TO the blessed phone to get the results you are describing here...
You're 100% right on the fact you need talent, tools, and cash to make the iPhone get images like this. My intention here was to see what was possible, certainly not be disingenuous. So we did another episode you might want to check out (Ep23) that we broke down the cost of the camera gear to help people better understand where the costs were. Thanks for the comment:)
@@Michael_Cioni ... I'll check that video out, thank you. My perspective as a starting video shooter: I rather put my money on entry level BlackMagic gear or even a Sony FX30 than trying to rig out an overhyped, over glorified, overrated, cult worshiped iPhone...
@@mauscuba Blackmagic and Sony FX30 are great cameras. Totally get the perspective of a starting video shooter. Since the world is so big, budgets vary and when you see Episode 23 you'll see how we made a killer result on a low-cost solution that many people already have access to. But it's certainly just one flavor of options. My bet is it will be 3-5 more years before Apple has solutions that are more in-line with FX30. More choices is good for all skill levels:)
Super excited about the ability to import tags as keyword collection inside FCP and how the workflow will look like! You guys rock!
Episode 28 is slated to drop June 4th - and in that episode we do a deep dive on FCP tagging and logging. I think you'll like it:)
This is so, so brilliant guys. Really excited to see where you go with everything.
Hey, thanks for saying that! I'm so glad it's resonating with you! We're really hoping this "clicks" with people and clearly you're getting it. Can you share which feature we demonstrated is the most valuable in your own workflows?
I need the custom LUT plz
sign up for the app and then email us at beta at strada dot tech and we'll send you some fun iPhone LUTs to try!
The logging example of the lake is super cool. I can see how this would be incredibly helpful.
I have a few questions. What is the difference between the LUT and the later colour correction pass? And which programme can I use to do this? And where can I get this LUT?
Great question! The LUT is a creative conversion from the camera log into a viewing gamma space (in this case, Apple Log into Rec709). Some people refer to this as a "base grade" because it gets you "normalized images" coming from a log source. Then you use a color correction pass to fine-tune the look. Ironically, the fine-tune color should happen before (or beneath) the LUT in order to get the best control and range out of the adjustments. I work with colorist Nick Lareau who grades in DaVinci Resolve and uses the base LUT and about 20 different layered effects to achieve the creative color pass. That's the foundation of color grading and thanks to TH-cam, there are about 5,000 DaVinci Resolve training videos to start learning how to do it yourself. Plus, Blackmagic makes a free version of Resolve to try! Good luck:)
i do love the work and the visuals but if you only have an iphone but all of the other equipment, lighting and crew then you have messed up your budget somewhere! 😅
no you do not period
Your voice doesn’t seem in sync
does not look like the 8k camera lool, clickbait nice try
considering how gd amazing this video was, I would have been mindblown if you'd said that video itself was shot on iphone. lol. awesome work! cant believe we get to experience all this expertise for free.
At 1:10, why did you multiply by 1.7?
Great question! Good eye:) Apple provided their lens focal lengths based on 35mm metrics. The RED Monstro sensor is 46mm, so the same lens focal length has a different field of view (a larger sensor would have a wider FOV). So the 46mm has a 1.7x wider FOV than the same focal length on 35mm. So a 50mm on a 35mm sensor has the field of view closer to a 30mm on the 46mm sensor. So that's the reason for the conversion math. However, after doing more tests between large sensor and iPhone I don't think Apple's labeling is accurate. Thanks for the comment!
@@Michael_Cioni Sir thank you very much for the reply. Lots to learn from your channel. Keep growing!
