Next time you go do that, just before you leave the house, tell your wife your going skating. Nice Haly!
Was gonna say you were using the buzz bomb wrong but someone already mentioned that. I would have used a hoochie spinner myself but that’s my personal preference. Just sucks when I know I would have slayed there.

Yay, good job! Lots of good meat there

great video. What are you using for a Vortex spotter and do you like it ?
Thanks. It's a Vortex Diamondback HD Spotting Scope - 20-60X - 85mm/Angled. Honestly, I haven't used it much yet.
Great video, cool to come along on your adventure.
Thanks for watching!
I'll just give you some friendly advice on fishing the buzz bomb. The flutter is when it is most effective. That occurs when there is slack line. It requires a pull of the rod, then slack, reeling a bit, then repeat. That tumbling action is when the bites occur. Reeling in a buzz bomb like a spoon is not how the lure is designed. I'm not sharing this to shame. I'm just saying that the buzz bomb is my all time favorite lure. I've seen many chinook take my buzz bomb on the flutter. I've seen the takes. I've also taken many chinook when the buzz bomb first hits the water and is just fluttering until I begin winding. Many times during that initial flutter, I've hooked up into fish. Sure, some novice fisherman might watch a person fishing a buzz bomb and accuse them of trying to snag. The action isn't that dissimilar. And for coho, my go to is blue pearl. I use another color as well but I will keep that as my own secret. Thanks for the great video and footage.
Thanks for the tips! I do use them with the jigging action sometimes too. I’m not sure if I show it in this video or not. If I remember correctly the small one that gets away was caught was using the method you described. We only got into the buzz bombs a couple years back. Thanks for watching!
@@Matt.Seeks.Adventure Thanks for your reply. I find a 2.5" seems effective in river mouths or shallower spots. It generally gives me more time for the buzz bomb to flutter. A heavier size will sink a lot faster, not allowing me time to get the correct action from fear of hooking on bottom. Sorry, I'm not trying to sound like a know it all. I just know that using a pink buzz bomb for pinks off the beach, so many times they would hit as it fell through the water column without even making my first reel turn of the handle. Such an amazing feeling! It's so exciting casting buzz bombs in front of jumping coho and pinks! Very nice trip you had!

Nice work Matt on the video! Entertaining to watch as it looked like a fun day on the water to me.
As far as I know chinook wild/hatchery where closed till Aug 1 in area 20-5 only open spot was renfrew 20-1, 20-2
There’s a small area in 20-5, we call it the triangle. Hatchery only. Aug 1 the rest of the area 20-5 opens and you can keep wild and hatchery 45-80cm
If you are curious it’s from notice FN0291, “Subarea 20-5 (portion of Beecher Bay): Effective 00:01 hours April 1, 2024, until 23:59 hours July 31, 2024, the daily limit of Chinook is one (1) Chinook per day, hatchery marked only. These measures apply in the following waters: That portion of Subarea 20-5 north of a line drawn from (48°19.554'N, 123°37.768'W) to (48°19.589'N, 123°36.533'W) then following the shoreline of Frazer Island easterly to the RCA boundary at (48°19.700'N, 123°36.267'W,) then to (48°19.633'N, 123°35.681'W”
@@Matt.Seeks.Adventure ok thanks I’ll have a look
Really enjoyed your video. I'm new to the salmon game and live on the mainland. I struggle with the regs, you need to be a lawyer to figure them out!
@@AlHutchings Yeah, it can be a bit much especially for someone who didn’t grow up doing it. I feel people that having been doing it their whole lives take what they know for granted. They don’t realize what they have retained over their lives / fishing careers. Lots of people fish the same spots every year the majority of their life. The regs generally stay the same. Tight lines! Thanks for watching!
Descending device for the rockfish release?
@@fishingbcwithcj yup
Here in BC we legally have to use a descending device. I don’t think I showed it in this video but you can see me using it in my other videos. The best practise is to keep the first rockfish you catch, but sometimes when they’re small and showing no signs of barotrauma I’ll just put it back with the descending device in hopes of catching a bigger fish.
That youngster is a champ!
Fun time with the family! look great. I used to have a bit of a hard time setting gear alone. I'll save you some money by telling you NOT to look up Lowrance's outboard pilot (autopilot system) and definitely do NOT look up the remote fob add on ;)
Lol, don’t give me any ideas!
you should try to spice up your thumbnail, might be a game changer
Nice video. Fishing off pedder is great when its not too windy but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. I've noticed that if you don't get much of a fight on the way up, its usually a skate and not a hali. Also you should get your navy friend to splice that halibut anchor line to the ring... unless they don't teach that anymore in fleet school.
Yeah, you can usually tell what you are pulling up. Splicing double braid is on my list of things to learn. I have asked a few navy friends about doing it, no one seemed super confident. One day it'll just be done...
Ever seen a mermaid while you're out there?
Just a merman 🧜♂️!
Where is that?

What do Rock fish taste like? Congrats on the first Salmon catch BTW
The perfect white meat for traditional fish and chips.
Thanks! It's similar to cod or halibut, just a bit tougher. It's best fried of course.
Do you bleed your fish? Congrats on your boat. Very nice

Does this hurt the fish?
The debate is ongoing.

Like the hat.good video.i live here in flat Saskatchewan haven’t had much luck with the bears.hard in these flat forests and i live 4 hours from the nearest bears so hard to do a bait.would love to hunt bear over there.maybe one day.thanks for sharing👍
Definitely lots of bears here on Vancouver Island, most people walk road and check logging cuts. Yeah, it could be tricky finding them in the woods without dogs or bait. Best of luck to you.
Loved your intro music!
Yeah me too! it's Zachariah Hickman, I found his stuff in the TH-cam audio library.
@@Matt.Seeks.Adventure Leaning on the everlasting arms, an old classic Christian hymn. I'll have to look for Mr. Hickman.
When ever you bump a bear just drive ahead a little ways & turn your vehicle off, The bear usually waits for you to leave then he comes back out to the road. Good hunt though, nice looking country
Yeah, that's exactly what someone taught me to do. We didn't bother with the small one on this trip but if you check out my 2 day hunt from April, that's exactly what we do. Glad you say this, makes me believe I think I know what I'm doing, lol. Thanks for watching!
