Cycle Break
I originally created this work as an Emerging Choreographer for Eisenhower Dance Detroit's New Dance Festival in the summer of 2024. I then recreated this work on the dancers of Mareck Dance for our Choreographic Installation in December 2024, and this video is of that performance.
This work observes cycles found in nature: life and death cycles, breath cycles, the tide, etc. It explores how cycles can be comforting, like a morning routine, but also how cycles can be a trap, like toxic negative thought patterns that get stuck playing on repeat in our heads. This piece inspires us to hold on to the cycles that are healthy for us, while learning to let go of the cycles that trap us by breaking them.
