This is such a great video! Thanks for making this! I grew up in M'boro. I learned to swim and ski in Lake Greeson, to fish in the Little Missouri River, and to hunt in the Ouachita National Forest! I spent a lot of time in Hawkins Variety Store reading comic books and drinking Dr. Nut soda (back then you had to pay a 5-cent deposit if you took the bottle out of the store)! Back then, the stairs to the upper area at Hawkins were closed and it was used for storage. The comic books were at the foot of the stairs, which makes it so neat to have the posters on the wall there now! I was privileged to be photographed at the diamond mine with classmates to be included in a 6th grade reader named "Tiger Stripes" (which my wife read when she was in 6th grade!!) and then filmed there with classmates to appear on an episode of Ripley's Believe it or not in 1983! Ka-Do-Ha, while offensive to some, helped to cement in our young minds that we weren't the first people to occupy this land. When we first moved there in 1969, our family helped start a church that met in the lobby of the hotel there (now called the Ireland)... I believe it was the Conway Hotel back then. The church is now located on HWY 27 just east of town. As kids, we would leave our houses in the summer mornings on our bikes and often not return until dinner! Murfreesboro was, at the time, a wonderful small town in which to grow up! I often long for the innocence of those days!

I live there and yes there was some crime but very rarely there was a break in at a school.

I enjoyed the Troy because live at Raymond, IL about 45 miles north & east of you up interstate 55 to 63 miles marker and turn right on route 48 then only 3 miles to Raymond...

I've lived in Collinsville all of my life. I remember when I was little and we would go out of town to some of the other towns in southern Illinois, the Brooks Catsup bottle was how I knew we were getting close to home on the return trip. Dad really liked Brooks Tangy Catsup. I liked it to, but it's hard to find in stores.

I wonder what happened to the big crystal that was right in front of the courthouse. The shamrock motel was spooky!!! Great place to spend the night! I helped refurbish it and the owner taught me how to play the piano in turn. Again, GREAT memories.

I grew up in that town. I loved it. Small, cozy, friendly, and everybody knew everybody. There was no crime there. Thanks for the memories!

Thanks for posting this! What a wonderful display there. I especially remember lights in Mt Vernon. When I think of Centralia, many years ago they had a candy bar factory. Paydays were made there. Then the factory burned and Paydays were then made in Chicago. Now days, they make them somewhere else than Chicago.

We followed this cave thousands of feet upstream in 1990-1991. If you keep going left, you can get out. If it's hot out, you can follow the air currents. After belly-crawling in 2-3" running water for what seemed like forever, we exited at a sinkhole not too far from a sub-division.
