Welcome! Here, I cover topics like getting clients, charging more, and earning a consistent income as a freelance web designer.
I’m Danbee. I help web designers build a profitable and inclusive business without overworking. If you want to make web design your full-time gig or if you’re ready to earn more while working (and stressing) less, you’re in the right place.
Before starting my 6-figure web design business, I worked at startups and Fortune 500 companies in Singapore, Sweden, Hong Kong, and Indonesia. I raised venture capital, designed and installed high-tech elevators, and consulted on online ad campaigns for brands you definitely know. These days, I’ve traded in the corporate hustle for a more peaceful dog-mom life in idyllic Switzerland.

Your video will be better if you include your examples like showing something rather than just simply talking. In general, your video is informative. thks so much
You're welcome - thanks for your feedback!
This video is great and so informative! Would be great on future videos to have an intro slide for each section of the video just to visually be able to see each step. Amazing video again thank you!
Thank you for your feedback!
Great information.
🙌
Such simple and yet time consuming tasks we can delegate! My favorite is the hex color naming and the stock photography prompts.
Right? I love thinking about it as delegation as well 😂
Such great advice as always! I'd like to add another way to charge more without actually raising our prices: being more efficient so we deliver the same amount of work in less time. Optimizing productivity and efficiency is such an underrated way to raise our (internal) hourly rate.
So, so true! This is another reason it's so important to have a streamlined client process you can repeat with every project.
This 100%! I can tell ya every single one of my clients so far has been gotten via referrals from someone else I know. I think it's also equally important to have a web presence (a business website for people to find, about your services and with a portfolio/case studies) for potential clients actively looking for websites, but you seriously can't beat word of mouth.
So true! Referral clients will often check out your portfolio before committing to working with you!
Hey I really like your approach and way of explaining things with exercices and analogies ❤❤❤ I followed you 🎉
I am a new web designer and i really appreciate your work Danbee. Keep posting valuable content.🥰
Wow! So helpful. I'm subscribing! Thank you, I'm a new web designer.

Thanks for watching, hope you found it helpful ☺
Thank you so much Danbee! This helped me understand how to present packages by using both features and benefits instead of relying on deliverables so that those packages are enticing to potential clients. The hair salon example really helped illustrate your framework. I'm going to have to rewrite my package descriptions but I look forward to it!
I’m glad you found the example helpful! All the best with your package descriptions - it sounds like you’ve got the clarity you need to nail them! 💛
Great video! I've subscribed, thank you! I do have a few questions if you'd be able to answer. I have a background in programming and want to transition to front end web development. I've always loved how fulfilling the creative side is. My question is: do you feel like, since a lot of intuitive website builders exist now (Shopify, square space etc), that you get a lot more of push back from clients? In my minds eye, showing your capabilities and what you can offer outside of those websites could be a great selling point. But I feel like their overall affordability would lead some potential clients to not seeing the value in what you can offer. With that being said, a lot of services have moved to a subscription based format of payment, do you see any potential in charging based off a similar model? Last question ( I promise), with website building services like the ones I've mentioned, have you noticed an overall decline in potential clients? I know a website can possibly be a fantastic sales aggregator base on how appealing it is, but I feel like a lot of people are comfortable with simply throwing together a landing page and calling it a day. If you find the time to answer these I'd be greatly appreciative! Wonderful content.
These are great questions! The rise of user-friendly website builder platforms has definitely lowered the barrier to entry for making websites. Based on your questions I think you’ll find this video helpful, it’s all about what clients value and why they work with web designers instead of choosing to DIY: What $10K clients ACTUALLY want from web designers th-cam.com/video/PuGt3KqLyn0/w-d-xo.html

How are you making this money when your own fast track system website looks like amateur web designer's work?
Interesting comment coming from someone with the handle "just learning design." If you're feeling insecure or frustrated with your own progress, that's okay, but leaving rude comments on strangers' videos isn't going to help you. I'm happy to share how I make money when people ask with respect and genuine curiosity.
your content is incredibly helpful! thank you so so much for sharing!

Thank you for all this useful information! I can really look back on some calls now and see how I can improve - especially as a woman! I've just subscribed! :)
Welcome, I’m so glad you found the info helpful. It’s awesome that you’re already reflecting on past calls - wishing you all the best as you experiment with new approaches in your future discovery calls! 🙌
hello nice video, where can we see your real work ?
This is a really strange comment to leave on a stranger's video. I'm glad you enjoyed it. If by "real work," you're referring to my web design projects, you can find detailed case studies on my website. For future comments, I'd recommend using a kinder and more constructive tone to keep these interactions respectful.
I really enjoyed your video on how web designers can get clients! I’ve made a few edits to improve the flow and also created a shorter version for TikTok and Instagram. Would you mind sharing a way for me to send you both videos?
The fact that you're pitching me (a complete stranger) this way tells me you didn't really watch this video. I’m not interested in unsolicited pitches from people who haven't taken the time to get to know me or my work first. I'd recommend investing in building genuine connections before reaching out with offers like this. Good luck!

Hey Danbee! I absolutely loved this video. You’re my favorite web designer and content creator. I’m starting a similar journey after going through a similar life experience, so thank you for sharing your story. I’m looking forward to following your content and learning more from you!
I’m sorry you went through a difficult time, but congratulations on starting this exciting new journey! Thank you for the kind words 💛
Watching this as a future client to a web designer to make sure I’m not a pain in the ass😂
This made me laugh 😂 Your designer will appreciate this for sure!
Just saw the notification for this video, and it couldn't have come at a better time. I have a project, where my client finished reviewing the website, and most of the points being pointed out are not crucial for the bigger picture.
I’m so glad to hear that! Hope you’re able to have a productive conversation with your client and steer them toward focusing on what moves the needle for their business 🙌
This is great advice!
🙌
Regarding project management etc, I'm using Notion personally. I'm one of those 'from scratch' people and I like over-engineering things before I simplify them to my own liking/standards. Notion just added webhooks into their automations & buttons so I guess it can work as a super powerful CRM (and everything else) completely now. "Press button to send 'x'" email to client is finally possible from within notion and some coding or no-code automations. I can even see a world where you create a button to 'send an invoice with stripe' or something like that via an automation once you want to. I'll be exploring that slowly 🤓 I'm in the process of building a new-client process from the ground up, so massive thank you for this video. I've used you as inspiration for a while, since I saw your website on Flux Academy's YT channel whilst learning all of this stuff, you've always had a great insight into this industry. Also, thank you for sharing dubsado, for some reason I haven't heard about it before. Not sure I'll be using it, but I can imagine my clients might want to! I find it interesting that you shifted to teaching the website-business instead of doing it. I can see the appeal personally and you seem to be great at explaining your thoughts, great fit for you I think. Thanks for the insightful content :) +1 on long-form content
Additionally: Super interesting design process. So no wireframes and you show a mockup of the page with some ideas, explanations and lorem ipsum text. I think this might solve a big flaw in my own process. I really dislike doing wireframes (most clients dont seem to need them) but putting fake copy also confuses clients as they perhaps want to process what the copy could be. But if you put your own copy in there, it sort of 'clashes' in their minds. I really like this approach, why have I not come across this variant before ☠???
I've experienced some of those red flags. I had a lead recently who responded to my SEO copywriting proposal by saying (via email) "is that the price you can do? I'm only after written content". Another red flag that comes to mind is someone who doesn't want to follow my copywriting or website design/development process. My process is the process I follow for a reason! Example, I had a client who didn't want to schedule a briefing call with me at the start of a project. The briefing call was necessary for me to get further details from the client that'd help me with his project. I responded by offering to do the briefing call over the phone (instead of Zoom) or by me emailing him the information I needed and him responding to it within a certain timeframe. Client didn't seem keen on doing either of those either ...
Yikes 😬😬 sometimes clients just don’t know/understand why specific parts of your process are important and these can be opportunities to educate and guide them, but that’s only possible if they’re open to it!
I’ve been wanting to get a content writing course months back but got another design course recently. I’m definitely getting the content writing course now!
Content writing is such a valuable skill for designers 🙌 if you’re open to sharing I’d love to hear which course you’ve got your eyes on!
Being a freelance web designer for years, this video gave me a refreshing perspective on marketing-something I've always been cautious about. Thank you for helping me see things in a new light!
You made my day with this comment! I’m so glad it was helpful. Thank you for sharing 💛
Solid information, subscribed!

Love this video!!! Oh my God, I was thinking that I need to do all from Monday till Thursday in 1 day, every day!!! I really tried 🥲 Through hard trials I came to the conclusion, that I dedicate just 1 day for socials = marketing (if that is not equal, please correct me). But I like your plan very much, Danbee. I like the idea of intentional preparations, exploring and slow performing. It looks like I can do it long-term this way. And it is important.
It’s so common to try to do too much! I think it’s because we want to show ourselves we are doing everything we can to grow our businesses… but like you say, it’s so important to be able to do it sustainably, for the long term. Dedicating just one day to social media sounds like a solid plan! More than anything, I’m for figuring out what works best for you. Sadly there is a lot of trial and error involved - but I want to minimize that for you as much as possible so you don’t have to make the same mistakes I made 😅
So thankful for finding your account, I am binging ! As someone who is starting web design freelancing, this is gold!
I’m so happy to hear that! Good luck with your web design business - what an exciting time 🥰🥰
Thank you very much😊😊...
You’re welcome! Hope you found this helpful for marketing your business ☺️
Which part of Switzerland do you live in?
I share in the video 😉
I've had people constantly rescheduling the first call and honestly I didn't know how to deal with it cause I wanted to be empathetic, cause life happens. But after doing it 3 or 4 times you start to get the strong feeling that they really don't value your time. Wish I had seen this video before cause I would have saved myself a ton of time. And thank you for your videos, they're always so helpful!
Thank you! That sounds so frustrating, I'm sorry those people wasted your time. If they don't value your time, they don't deserve as much understanding or empathy.

Thanks for sharing your journey! I find it so interesting to hear the stories of other business owners. In my case, I started my business right after graduating college, and sometimes I feel like I missed out on building a career within bigger companies first. But something tells me I would have ended where I am anyways, because the flexibility to be able to take care of myself and be there for my family when they need me is more important to me. So I could relate to your story in that way!
Thank you for sharing YOUR story! Yes to building careers that allow us to take care of ourselves and our families 💛💛
