César Franck • Chorale No 3 in A minor • Christoph Keller
*Finale of a monumental symphony*
The three famous chorales (E major, B minor and A minor) represent Franck's monumental late work as well as the conclusion of his organ compositions. In view of this it may be legitimate to see the cycle of these three chorales as a unity, perhaps as a great symphony in three movements. The E major Chorale would be the first movement (moderato), the B minor chorale the slow second movement and here performed the A minor Chorale the moving, perhaps furious finale. In fact, the third chorale shows a move towards the Franck's preferred pianistic virtuosity observed also outside of his organ works; just think of his chamber music, especially the Piano Quintet in F minor.
The third chorale strongly reflects this facet of pianistic virtuosity in Franck's musical range. Very often, in the overall context, registration is reduced to a rather reserved sound, whereby the registration indicated at the beginning of the score with the 8' reeds does not reportedly come from Franck himself but probably from Charles Tournemire. According to the tradition, Franck played the introduction of the piece in a moderate tutti which serves well to the great, majestic architecture of this extremely mature and demanding work.

*Johann Sebastian Bach • Complete Organ Works* *Choralpartita "Sei gegrüßet, Jesu, gütig"* Bach's chorale partita "Sei gegrüßet, Jesu gütig" is often referred to as the "Goldberg Variations for organ". In fact, these 11 variations, including the presentation of the chorale, are one of the master's most important and valuable organ works. It is considered certain that he composed the first parts...
Sigfrid Karg-Elert • Sonatine op. 74
มุมมอง 2197 หลายเดือนก่อน
*A giant ‚Sonatina‘* Karg-Elert's huge *Sonatine op. 74* from 1909 is one of the most important organ works by the composer and of German Romanticism in general. It shows the composer's independent intellectual and musical world. Why he called the work ‚Sonatine‘ is something only he probably knows himself; the second movement alone comprises 272 bars and is of expansive architecture. The movem...

มุมมอง 7209 หลายเดือนก่อน
*How sad can music be?* One of the greatest musical masterpieces of the 20th century shows us this: Samuel Barber's *Adagio for Strings* was voted in 2004 by BBC listeners as the 'saddest piece of classical music'. *Samuel Barber* composed his “Adagio for Strings” in 1936, when he was just 26 years old. The piece was initially the second movement of his String Quartet op.11 and then edited by h...

Louis Vierne • Allegro Vivace from 1st Symphony, Opus 14
มุมมอง 2399 หลายเดือนก่อน
*Louis Vierne • Allegro Vivace from 1st Symphony, Opus 14* Louis Vierne composed his 1st Symphony in 1900, when he was already a student of Charles-Marie Widor. In the same year, Widor completed his 10th symphony. Vierne was at the transition to the next era, the beginning of the 20th century. One can certainly assume that Vierne experienced a certain tension at the moment when he presented his...
Louis Vierne • Allegretto Opus 1

*Louis Vierne • Allegretto Opus 1* Louis Vierne's first organ work, composed in 1894 and, quite unjustly, unfortunately received very little attention, shows the full extent of the admiration that Louis Vierne must have had for his teacher César Franck. The entire piece of music is so inspired by Franck that one sometimes believes it was composed by Franck himself. The melodious design of the c...
Leo Sowerby • Carillon

If you are going to give a concert in the birthplace of one of the world's most famous composers, it is appropriate that you also play something by this composer. In this case, it was Grand Rapids, located directly on Lake Michigan, where Leo Sowerby was born. The Schantz organ there, with its fantastic, romantic tones and built-in glockenspiel, was the ideal instrument for playing this beguili...
Edward C. Bairstow • Scherzo
มุมมอง 14610 หลายเดือนก่อน
The "Scherzo" performed here was originally the 2nd movement of the composer's Sonata in E flat major. It was later published alone as “Scherzo”. In professional circles it is also called "Devil's Scherzo" because of its somewhat bizarre sound and the demands placed on the player. Here you can hear an excerpt from a live recording of my organ concert on September 10, 2010 at the Späth organ in ...
Josef Rheinberger • Sonata D minor, op. 148
มุมมอง 39710 หลายเดือนก่อน
Rheinberger's great D minor sonata is one of my absolute favorite pieces. I love this work with its wealth of melodies, contrasting moods and its well-thought-out architecture - not to forget: the dreamlike, slow "Cantilene" in the 2nd movement. Here you can hear the recording of my live concert from August 23rd, 2008 at the Ladegast Eule organ in the Nikolaikirche Leipzig. The mouvements: 00:0...

Percy Whitlock • Organ Sonata c minor
มุมมอง 2K10 หลายเดือนก่อน
For me, Percy Whitlock's 'Sonata c minor' is one of the most beautiful British organ works. With a total duration of around 50 minutes, the sonata is also one of the longest organ works ever. I recorded the version presented here on the Klais organ in Altenberg Cathedral, even before the English tuba was installed there. The sonata has four movements: 00:00 - Percy Whitlock • Sonata c minor • 1...

Hier spiele ich "Your Song" in meiner persönlichen Interpretation in einem eigenen Piano-Arrangement - ganz speziell meiner lieben Frau Jarmila gewidmet: "I hope you d...

One of my favourite Franck compositions. Interesting registration at 2:40
Ganz fantastisch mein lieber!!!!
Magnifique ! Beautiful phrasing and legato 🎹🎶
Excellent performance! The reason why Sigfrid called it a Sonatine is possibly that it consists of only 2 parts, where a Sonata consists of 3 or 4 parts...
Monumentalne , Perfect Maester ❤
❤Lovely. One of my favorite compositions and the organ is especially wonderful for this piece
💯 "PromoSM"
Geradezu magisch...
Fantastisch! Vielen Dank für diese Entdeckung.
Belle interprétation de cette œuvre peu connue !
Just listening to this wonderful performance makes I forget about the trouble and annoyabces of this transient world
Das ist schön. Entspannend und beruhigend.
beeindruckend interpretiert !
Das mein Pflichtstück in der Masterprüfung. Ich hab’s gemocht und war dankbar drum. Toll gespielt!
Great job -- real conviction!
Sehr schön anzuhören. 😊
Beautyful.
Very nicely done!
Bravo!
Your tempo is slightly faster than others; but it works very nicely. I like the forward piston bar--much easier than locating a toe stud. You have a beautiful console. Congratulations!
Wonderful music
Wooow!! Very good!
Just plain Wonderful - BRAVO! That's all what counts, is the performance .. and the piece!
Wonderful but those keys..... Yikes!!!!! 😭
Excellent
Incredible!
Superb. Very well done!
What a masterpiece...
When I travel to Indiana University in June for the Sacred Music Institute, I am planning to play one of the Psalm Preludes, possibly this one from this wonderful collection!
Wonderful thank you.
Can you give some information about the registrations you use
Muhteşem.
Wonderful!
Godlike music! Magnificent!
GREAT TO know new non popular organ repertoire. Thanks for sharing your playing¡
Beautiful playing, console and...of course ¡Batz organ!
I too have the Hereford set and it's now the only one I use because I think it's wonderful. Those who have both say it's better than the Salisbury one. Hauptwerk is the most realistic alternative to "live" pipes that I know. Beautiful and very musical playing as well, by the way.
Great job. Love this piece
I thoroughly enjoyed that. Wonderful indeed. I sometimes wonder what Bach's reaction would be were he to be with us today and able to listen to his masterly compositions played with such gifted talent on an organ such as this!
Wonderful! Sublime rendition. The organ is beautiful and smart with a great sound!
