May 8-24 Mark's 1 yr. Wayne Ramsey passed. I feel I'm only going through motions. My heart hurts. I don't want to accept. I don't want to go forward. Everything has stopped, except me. I looked after my husband by myself from December 2004 through to his death December 2021. Nobody in my family helped. Then his sisters fought to try to get my house. It was my house and they thought as he lived there half of it was theirs. He left them nothing and they didn't believe what was in his will. They were vindictive but I was his wife, carer and best friend - they did nothing.

Impossible to take time when no one else cares or helps. 7 years for a great-aunt, and 4 years for my father-in-law. Never again. It's like peeing into the wind. 😢

I almost ended up in a wheelchair because my siblings refused to take time out of their lives to help me. I was raising three children and it destroyed my marriage.

Agreed. Please if you have family brothers/sisters,everyone please please please help. Don’t leave it to one person. (You never know what others are going through).

Caring for my grandmother full time for about a year but was for 8 hours a day 5 days a week for 6 months prior. I also have young kids. Its hsrd to make time for myself and end up taking that time late at night. But then i end up sleep deprived. Its hard sometimes to find someone to take over.

This is so true. I've been a caregiver for 20 yeand the most important thing is self-care for a caregiver. You cannot give when you are burnt out and exhausted

So true! As two of seven, my sister and I cared for our mother as she was bedridden for two years with als! Horrible death, never got a bedsore! Sure would have loved a break 💔. After she passed, we took a mini vacation! PEACE

I have been a full time care giver to my mum for just over 3 yrs now, all my family live far away from us, im burnt out, i get told all the time that if i need anything just ask, i have asked them to just come down n visit her so i can have a couple days off and when i ask i have been told oh yeh i will next yr, next yr comes n they still dont come.... its literally killin me 😔

She’s a 1000% right. All those friends who offer to help or leave a message saying, “If there’s anything I can do” call them and say, yes there’s something you can do. Come and sit with Mom, (or Dad or Auntie, or whoever it is you’re caring for) for 2 hours and give me a break. Then take the break! Don’t waste your time micromanaging every little thing. Tell them to call if it’s important but other than that use common sense. And go read a book or watch a movie or take a hike or have a nice lunch but do it for yourself. And set up “stand ins” for yourself 2-3 times a week. It’ll make a huge difference in how you feel and make u a better caregiver. ❤️

My uncle has been in and out of the hospital for 2 1/2 months in the ICU with they steady decline. It’s painful to watch.

Awareness. ....older caregivers.... Dont always have friends or kids who will or can help.... So caregiver takes chances of neglect if pt ...can not be left alone.....or chances pt falls into harm....

doodle. You for posting this. You dont no how often we have gone through this.there needs to be a agency ,or program to help with this. Adult protection , nope ...no1 seems to on call every time. Va...nope only if u can get them to va sum how. Cant do ambulance...not emerg. So nope no help...thanku. .😢

There needs to be a note on the refrigerator to alert first responders to the fact that there is a person in the home (identify the person by name and description and medical condition, medications if necisary) that is not able to be left alone. Leave names and phone numbers of people to contact if anything should happen to you, or if you can not be contacted. This information should also be with this person at all times they leave the house, with you or anyone else.

36 years care giving. My husband will stay at home no matter what, just like my mother, his mother, my grandmother.

I’m not a carer at the moment but this was really eye opening to me. To think about how it might be from the other person’s perspective. Very helpful, thank you.

It saddens me so much to see the elderly disregarded and tossed aside as useless, when these are people that have lived a long hard productive life and deserve respect and dignity in their golden years, they earned it. It’s bad enough they can no longer do what they used to be able to do but society makes them feel even worse.

I strongly believe in honesty, and feel betrayed when someone lies to me. But, I’ve don’t senior home health care with dementia and Alzheimer’s, and for the sake of the well being of the patient, lying is sometimes the better option. That said, it should be minimal and efforts to be honest should take priority. Example, one man I worked with had a letter from his dr telling him he shouldn’t drive anymore and explained his diagnosis. When he started to get upset over wanting to drive, we showed him the letter, explained that he asked his daughter to sell his car so he wouldn’t forget and drive it. But he forgot he told her to do it and got irate. The letter usually helped calm him down enough to move past it.

Who cares!!! Will lying change the outcome!!! Nope!!!
