My Mini Home Workshop
Thailand
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 8 พ.ย. 2021
My Mini Home Workshop is all about creating a mini workshop at home when you have no room for a workshop, and the ability to make anything that you put your mind to with a little perseverance and some basic tools.
One thing you won't see me doing is drilling hundreds of holes and tapping threads in them, and I have done plenty, and broken a couple of taps while I was at it, but personally I find that to be boring viewing and find myself saying, Get On With It.
I hope you enjoy my videos, if you do, please click that LIKE button and Subscribe to see what I come up with next.
I'm a self-funded retiree and if you would like to help me along the way, then it would be greatly appreciated, please consider being a Patreon member or tipping me via Buy Me a Coffee (Links below) or the Thanks button below each video.
Thanks for watching my videos. 👍

Some delicate parts were made in this one. Nice. And they fit!
Always a good thing when stuff fits like it should. Thanks for watching. 👍
I see the plans are being extensively utilised 😂

Top bloody job mate, almost see the end in sight, cheers

Looking good! On the home straight now, and i know what you mean about the dreaded shopping trips!

Fantastic job building this steam engine. Against doctors orders I have been doing a little work in my shop. I'm just sick and tired of sitting around doing nothing. Hopefully we will see this engine running next week. Thanks for sharing the video.
I can't stand doing nothing either. Thanks for watching. 👍

The Stuart slide valve in the kit is fully finished and doesn't need any machining, so that might explain why there were few dimensions on the drawings. I think it was a stamped bronze part. Regards, Preso
@@Preso58 That is the conclusion I came to. Thanks for watching. 👍
Good job on the Compound slide Dave. I have been doing up an ancient very small lathe that did not have a compound slide so not having a milling machine I have had the Dovetails cut elsewhere. However, the cost being through the roof I have nearly finished building it but nowhere in the same class of compound slide of yours as everything has to be filed to size and never looks as good as a milled piece of steel but it will do me. I have to lol at this Compound slide because it is the newest piece on the lathe and I guess it will look out of place as everything else is cast iron 1930's style. This lathe does not have thread cutting means but It will cut replacement gears as I am making a gear milling attachment that fits on a vertical slide which you can get quite cheaply for small lathes on eBay. Anyway, what I need it for is only very small stuff as in small cannons and model-type stuff. Maybe you will think why did I not buy a compound slide of Ebay? The reason is I had no room to fit the one off eBay and so maybe I may put up a video of the cross slide and how small in-depth it had to be strong also. *A question about your tool post holder. Is your tool post made of anodized Aluminium which it appears to be as it looks exactly like the one I bought of the Temu. I thought it must have been at least all the black colors to be metal but they are not. As long as it works I don't really care about that as I had said before what I am machining is very light using hand feed and slow speeds and nice sharp HSS. HSS takes longer, but you can obtain a shiny finish if you sharpen the tool steel correctly. Maybe one day I will put up a video about how I do it and you will be amazed at what is required to get a good finish on metal using patience. A lot of it has to do with what type of metal you are turning of course. Cheers Gary
@@GaryPArmstrong The first quick change tool holder I bought was Aluminium and it was rubbish the one I have now is steel. Thanks for watching. 👍
What sort of leadscrew was in there? Ive got an M10 x 1 in mine and I like the idea of a ACME style one.
I did that ages ago and I don't remember exactly, it's either an M6 or M8x2mm pitch leadscrew I bought online, I think. Thanks for watching.👍
Great job, would you consider doing a video of where you live I’ll bet it’s nice
It's not that fantastic, just a middle of the road gated village, nothing special at all. If you have a look through my videos you will find one titled "Dicing with Death" which I made one morning while doing the school run on my Bike, that will give you some idea of what it's like around here. Thanks for watching.👍
Nice work on the crankshaft. You are getting there with the build.
Thanks, steadily getting there, still a bit to do yet. Thanks for watching.👍
Only bloke i know who builds a steam engine and gets plans 3/4 of the way through 😅
Having them at the start would make it too easy. 😁Thanks for watching. 👍
Yep, the cranckshaft really is a perfect fin in the bearings. Nice job.
I was pretty pleased with it for the first crankshaft I've ever made. Thanks for watching. 👍
Great job 👏 and glad see you back at it, we had parts of Hurricane Helene wipe out alot of unfortunate folks, destroyed our communication systems and was without power for over week, our exact area faired better than others 😢, some places wiped off face of the earth and sad 😔 but feeling blessed and trying help folks when we are able!
I saw the devastation on the news of the last 2 hurricanes, it was pretty horrific. Glad you made it through it. Thanks for watching. 👍
Great job. When I worked in England I had to turn a new crankshaft for a power press. I turned the crankpin wrong as it was 200 thou out of position and the bearing cap was fouling under the press so I milled 250 thou off the top of the bearing cap lol
That's quite a tale! Thanks for watching. 👍
I don't blame you for taking it easy mate. take your time
I've backed off and I have been spending much less time out in the workshop. Thanks for watching. 👍
Looking great. Very nice engine. Great work sir.
Thank you kind sir. Thanks for watching. 👍
Colour me impressed mate. First episode I thought this is going to be laughable.. consider my hat eaten! 😉
Glad I managed to both surprise and impress you. Thanks for watching. 👍
You are almost there. Hope to see it running next week. Thanks for sharing the video.
Maybe not next week. Thanks for watching. 👍
Top job as always

Hi Paul, another cracker job mate. Sorry to hear about those pesky health issues. Seemed to have carried over into Part 5 with a few annoying machining issues. Am enjoying watching all this falling into place. Keep up the good content. From your Ausy friend and ex fitter and Turner.
I did wonder if you were going a bit hard on that tap, then it snapped and answered that question.
I was pondering the same thing when I edited the video. Thanks for watching. 👍
Comment for algorithm engagement 👍👍
Thank you kind sir. Thanks for watching. 👍
Top job mate, cheers
Thanks Matty, I hope you are feeling well rested. Thanks for watching. 👍
Just a silly idea but I wonder if you changed the handle on one of the cranks to a different shape. Maybe square stock. That way, it would feel different when you are watching the part. 😊
It definitely needs something. Thanks for watching. 👍
The TH-cam algorilla said I would like your channel yesterday. I watched the two episodes then, and now I'm about to finish with the third. I'm glad I found it. Thank you for bringing us along. 😊
TH-cam Algorilla 😂 I love it. Glad you found me and welcome aboard. Thanks for watching. 👍
Nicely done shame about the booboo mate but you will make it work i have no doubt.
I admire your confidence. Thanks for watching. 👍
Paul, I wonder if you wrapped the Y handwheel with cord (or some other tactile indicator), whether that would make it gel that you are on the wrong wheel.
That was already suggested by a Patron of mine, it needs something because when I'm looking at the workpiece and just reaching for the handle it is really easy to grab the wrong one. You would think that the Z-axis handle being on an angle might give it away, but it doesn't. Thanks for watching. 👍
I'm thoroughly enjoying watching your trials and tribulations. The videos are very watchable, and I do love a good steam engine build.
Glad you're enjoying it. Thanks for watching. 👍
Cranking the wrong handwheel, I know exactly what it feels like :)
Frustrating isn't it. Thanks for watching. 👍
I’ve done that with power feed!
@@glennwright9747 Me too.
I have found not to break the chip on spiral flute taps, but if you do back completely out. Small chips really bind them up fast.
Yeah they do bind up fast, I don't have the right size drill for M8, the one I use is ever so slightly too small which doesn't help. Thanks for watching. 👍
Very nice work. It looks like a great project
Thanks for watching. 👍
Coming right along. You aren't the only one that makes those little boo boos as I have done plenty in my 75 years. Anyone that claims they never mistakes are just not truthful. Thanks for sharing the video with us.
Spot on and I don't mind leaving them in for that reason. Thanks for watching. 👍
My dad told me if you don’t make mistakes you aren’t doing anything!
@@glennwright9747 I've always thought if you aren't making mistakes you aren't trying hard enough.
@@MyMiniHomeWorkshop sometimes I have to modify my build to accommodate mistakes. Frustrating when you are short material and finally make the last unrecoverable error.

40 min to adjust an angle plate... luckilly it's just a hobby :)
I really do need to adjust the nod on my mill so I don't have to stuff around with things like that. Thanks for watching. 👍

It certainly is. Thanks for watching. 👍
Looking good. To grip that cylinder end cap glue it to a mandrel and then add heat to release later. Cheers Rob
That's a solution. Thanks for watching. 👍
Gday, awesome job and making good progress, when I made the Webster engines I build a lap for doing the cylinders, worked well in cast iron with diamond paste, cheers
I saw that, the timber with wet & dry wrapped around it has worked well in the past for me. Thanks for watching. 👍

Very nice work sir. I like the style of that engine. Just finishing my first engine now,so maybe in the future I’ll try my hand at a similar engine.

9:19 are you using a DRO while you milling out the part? If so, you obviously don’t need the layout lines but as a viewer I find that’s very helpful while watching. I took a machining class a during Covid because I got laid off. During that class, I still used layout lines with my parts - manual or CNC machining. I found it very useful. Sorry your delivery is worse than snail mail. I take it for granted when Amazon needs several days before delivery.
That was lucky you can't see the slight mistake. Really enjoying this one 👍
I'll patch it up later anyway, really peeved I did that. Glad you're enjoying this series. Thanks for watching.👍
