Seb farm is in Kericho, Kenya. Innovative farm with numerous initiatives for training in Dairy, horticulture, tea, dairy goats, and bee keeping.
Poorly conditioned Dairy cows improve when given proper care.
Seb farm has adopted a method of acquiring poorly managed cows from public auction and provide them with best feeds and living conditions. Within a period of 2 months they improve and attract other farmers coming to buy them.
This Video demonstrates how 2 cows are being off loaded from the market place. They are trained to feed on quality feeds by allowing them to graze on fresh grass and maize crops in the field. This will soon create appetite which is normally too low for animals hitherto poorly cared.

Improving the dairy cows performance by using body condition score (BCS) tool.

Did you know that dairy cows performance depends largely ( upto 70%) on feeding . We demonstrate this at Seb farm. We buy poorly conditioned cows and feed with quality feeds. Normally we start with BCS between 1 to 2 (see the video) and improve it to upto BCS 5 within 3 months. To ensure this happens we regularly do the scoring. The cows shown on the video s have been improved at Seb farm.

How is the napier grass as the main fodder sir?
Napier at good harvest stage can give upto 18% protein. High producing cows require supplementing with higher protein concentrates like canola or soya.

Overgrown napier contains indigestible proteins called tanins which doesn't benefit animals, but since you've started experimenting you'll check out the findings
