These series of bikes from the late sixties are very unique and I believe they will continue to hold their value and become more valuable in the future. I can’t decide between the Superhawk or the 450 at the moment but I’m very interested in pursuing this as a new hobbie. Nice job, appreciate what you do. It was a wonderful time to be a teen, SO MUCH was happening in every facet of our society but to us kids it was the fast changing world of Rock 'n Roll, fast cars and the birthing of the 'modern motorcycle era' thanks to Honda. It was so cool to go down to the Honda Shop (Boulder Cycle Center) and check out those new 'Jap' motorcycles with the squarish cylinders. The 305 was the hot bike for us 'poor boys' who couldn't afford a big British twin and whose cars were mid '50s and earlier. A few friends had 305s, but I had to wait till I got out of the Navy when I bought a brand new red '69 CL450 Scrambler, which I thought was the coolest bike in the world at the time, 6 months later I got a '69 Norton Commando 'S' and never looked back... I have fond memories of sleeping on our screened in back porch and listening to Superhawks, with their baffles removed, winding out across town late at night...Those were great days...

Motosport was a brand new word from Honda to all of us Yanks. My high school buddy bought the SL 100. Pretty bike but it had a notorious flat spot just off idle. Honda cured that in subsequent incarnations; and anyway, the SL125 came out shortly after which was a huge sales success. Equally notorious were the flat-black upswept exhaust arrangements on all the SL's. While they looked very cool and sounded nice n' throaty, they got dinged and scraped quickly. Honda also addressed that problem in subsequent incarnations. All in all, the Motosport line was highly successful; evidence that Honda had middle-class American motorcycling preferences down to a science.

I'm a big fan of folks who restore (or even restomod if done tastefully) the classic first-wave Japanese motorcycles. I'm old enough to remember when they were new to Americans and the Beach Boys included their song "Little Honda" on one of their first albums. Listening to it, I've always pictured a CB160 as the bike Mike Love and Brian Wilson were thinking of when they penned the song. I have a particular soft spot for the Honda line of "Dream" bikes. Around 1977, I purchased a sorta' tired 1967 Honda 305 Dream in black color. In my own youthful & amateurish way, I "restored" the bike to looking and running pretty nice. The electric start still worked! It came with an archaic aftermarket leather & plexiglass full-coverage windscreen which I'd use during inclement weather. Man, those handlbars would sure buzz my hands numb at any speed over 45 mph. And I always wanted to find one of the aftermarket big-bore kits which increased engine size to 350cc. Probably just as well that I didn't.

Imo a lot of thought went into the mfg of these bikes where beauty and function is balanced. The new bikes imo have let designers place bizarre looks over the functionality and comfort, and the lines don’t flow but zig and zag in unusual directions and are leaning towards the racetrack instead of a comfortable ride thru the country or commuting.

Hi. I was a high school kid on an American base in Japan, graduated in 1962. The reason the badge says “Dream 300” is that the name of the bike in Japan was the “Dream Super Sport.” That’s what we knew it as. I think the Super Hawk designation was for the American market, but later used for other bikes, as well. Thanks for the video. That machine is my “dream” motorcycle. Road several of them but never fortunate enough to own one. The ones in Japan were primarily black and silver, not red. Again, you had a 305 Dream Super Sport on your hands. To my eyes, the perfect design. A work of art.
