Last spring, I taught compositing in 3D with After Effects Live Link with Maya. However, Adobe has not updated the Live Link plug-in for After Effects 2022. So, here's an alternative way to bridge these two programs for compositing 3D models in After Effects! The Christmas decoration was 3D Scanned using Photogrammetry. I used Instant Meshes for auto retopology. Then, I used Maya for UV Mapping. After that, I used MudBox to bake normal map, and to remap diffuse, roughness, and ambient occlusion maps. Images were rendered with Substance Painter. BG Music: Vindsvept, fantasy music

The only reason that we track and composite the 3D model in Maya is because it's free! Also, you can get a great render of the 3D model (if know how to render with Arnold in Maya). To import 3D models directly into After Effects, you'll need a plug-in called Element 3D and it's about 150 bucks if I remember correctly.
