Gel Plate Tutorial with Image Transfers and Open Access Images
มุมมอง 4513 หลายเดือนก่อน
The Smithsonian's Open Access Library provides a treasure trove of high-quality images for artists, inspiring creativity and offering a vast resource for incorporating historical elements into their work. Utilizing 4 of these images I was able to create a new work of art using a Gel Plate. Did I mention his name is Henry? Timestamps: 0:00 Intro 0:14 Open Access Images 0:56 Photoshop 3:04 Collag...

Hi Sharlene, this is really cool. The words and wallpaper, are they laser print image transfers?
Thank you! Yes, they are. The process is broken down more in my previous video.
@@Ceramink What model laser printer did you use for you prints? Please.
@@BenjaminConnelly For this one I used an HP M402n
Omg thank you for condensing that long form video into just the process. You're a gem!
Glad it was helpful!

Thank you so much 🤗
Thank you so much for the video; it's one of the most heartfelt and helpful gel plate videos I've seen!
Wow, thank you! Hopefully more to come.
Wow - I absolutely _love_ this! Instant sub. May your channel grow and grow! 😄
Here's hoping 🤞 Thanks for the love and the sub!!
I guess you could also use a stamp carving right.
I've seen other gelli artist use stamps and linocuts. Something I want to try our eventually. Mostly for texture though.
So it’s your drawing right! I love your drawings!
Yes it is
Love watching your process, I am self taught and learn from all you wonderful artist on your thought process! This is great and I love my posca paints!
I'm also self taught! Or TH-cam-taught is probably more accurate. Plus I worked in the arts & antiques world for 20 years, so I was surrounded my pretty things and my brain is always trying to dismantle how a creator did something.
So you built the collage piece and used a stencil sun ray! You put stuff together so well! You should offer classes on skill share!
Goals, am I right?
Omg you really have a pattern for the shawl! You way think this through!❤
LOL. I feel so seen! 💛
So to be clear. You draw your pictures by hand or photoshop. Print them up on a laser printer. Then do the transfer and then paint them and then print your final copy! It would be wonderful to see your drawing method and transfer to photoshop! And thank you for figuring out it is 1 oz of paint but what size gelli plate does that apply too!
And Yes this is fantabulistic! I love it!
That's pretty much it. I usually run them through the printer twice to build up the toner and I've started converting them to halftones first. Test everything before committing to working on it. Do the halftones need to be bigger, will it work with just a single print, etc. 1 gram is for the 8" x 10" using Liquitex paint. Good luck! 💛
Very nice way to add the collage in layers. The art of Gelli and collage are evolving so Much!
I loved Henry, and love your work. Can’t wait to see more videos.
Just found you on Instagram. Love your stuff! Just subscribe here! Can’t wait to do some gelli printing!
Thank you so much! I can't wait to share more longer videos here.
I've said it once, say it again: f*** georgeus 😂!!!
😂💛 Love it.
Thank you so much for sharing your process. I'm just beginning my multimedia artist journey. This is very inspiring. ❤❤❤
You're welcome! So happy that I was able to inspire you, that makes me so happy.
This has made my gelli print day. I am struggling with converting photos in any app but i will give PS another shot with your guide. Thank you for sharing your techniques Sharlene.
You're welcome! I hope it helps. 💛
Excellent work! I appreciate that you share where you source images and how you digitally prep for printing the laser copies. Most process videos I’ve come across just show the actual printing and I find myself wondering where to safely get images and how they prep on the computer. I just recently discovered the Smithsonian so now I want to explore it more. I use affinity photo and there is a live halftone adjustment layer which I find to be so much easier and better than photoshop 😊
Thank you! There are lots of open access images out there but I find the Smithsonian's the most user friendly. And it's huuuuuuge.
So awesome!!! You are awesome with Photoshop! I need PS for Dummies! lol
Ha! I've watched a lot of Phlearn videos.
Very nice ❤ love the pastels and vibrant colors
Thank you! I really like the colors in this one as well.
I hope one day I'll be as skilled as you are when it comes to painting.
I appreciate your kind words. Everyone starts somewhere. 💛
Wow really love this one.
Cool
Looks amazing, I love the stars.
Hi - I have tried unsuccessfully many time to transfer an inkjet image to gelli plate. I printed it in B&W after making a halftone of the picture. Contrast is good. Black acrylic is wet and thin on the plate after rolling it with the brayer, then I lay down the laserjet image - lightly toughing it for 3 to 5 seconds and then life. It comes off easily - not sticky the way in your video. And ALL of the ink comes off the plate onto the paper. If anything, there might be one small part of the image on the plate somewhere and it is way to light to be meaningful. I dont know how to be lighter with touch or faster with laydown to prevent so much of the acrylic from coming off the plate. Do you know what I need to do? I am out of ideas and frustrated!
Apologies for the late reply. Inkjet prints won't work with this method. It has to be a LaserJet print because it uses toner, not ink. Toner has plastic particles in it that acts as a barrier between the paper and the gel plate, therefore it leaves the paint behind on the plate.
I love your art. Looks f*** georgeus 😊!
Thank you! This comment has made my evening 🥂
@@Ceramink My pleasure!!!! Greetings vom Germany 🖐
