Hiking to Camels Hump from Coryah Gap
Camel Hump: A Hiker's Delight in Mt Kaputar National Park
Camel Hump is one of the many striking rock formations in Mt Kaputar National Park, and it's well worth the effort to visit.
The hike is a 14 km round trip from the Coryah Gap car park-add an extra 2 km if you want to conquer the hump itself. Trust me, the panoramic views from the top are absolutely worth the leg burn.
Navigating the trail was a bit of an adventure. Without proper maps or trail markers, it took some creative guesswork to stay on course. The tall bushes added a touch of mystery but were mercifully not too dense-no machetes required! For those with some bushwalking experience and a GPS logger in hand, there was never a serious risk of getting lost.
On the way back, I veered west onto the lava field next to Camel Hump, where I stumbled upon jaw-dropping views above Mt Yulludunida. From there, I took the “short cut” (debatable!) along the eastern cliff edge between Mt Mitchel and Mt Coryah. This route offers dazzling vistas of the surrounding peaks, including Mt Kaputar, Sinclair, and Governor Peaks.
After returning to Mt Coryah, I completed the Coryah Gap Loop track along the northern side. This cliff-side trail is full of surprises-think spiky spinifex-like plants (note to self: become a botanist) and dramatic rock faces that would make any geologist swoon.
Pro tip: Start your journey down Kaputar Road early in the morning. This steep, narrow road is best tackled without the stress of dodging oncoming cars. As a bonus, you’ll be treated to golden sunrise views of Mt Ningadhun (aka Castle Rock) and the surrounding landscape-a perfect epilog to an unforgettable adventure.

Finding the Pinnacles on Mt Plagyan
มุมมอง 78วันที่ผ่านมา
The bunny-ear looking Pinnacle in Mt Kaputar National Park has attracted my attention some years ago, but i never found the time to go find it. On the home run leg of my 5th Lap around Australia, I went after it. After piecing information together from hiking blogs, I reached these spectacular rocks with little difficulties. The hike is steep at places, but nothing particularly difficult, unles...
Hiking up Bald Rock
มุมมอง 17021 วันที่ผ่านมา
Bald Rock is NSW's answer to the other monoliths in Australia, Uluru, Mt Augustus etc., but it is a small brother, and of different geology. It is not a diffiuclt hike to the summit, however, it is steep as usual walking on these monoliths, and could potentially be slippery in wet weather. Returning via the Bungoona Trails is very interesting, the trail is full of rocks in different formations.

Summiting Mt Bruce

Mt Bruce at 1,234 ( easy to remember !! ) meters, is the second tallest mountain of Western Australia. It is a Grade 5 hike to the summit with a couple of steep and tricky spots. A great hike with great views over the surround Karijini National Park.
Summit Hike Mt Augustus

Mt Augustus is the largest rock in the World, much bigger than Uluru, which is the bigger monolith of Australia. I am confused! In any case, Mt Augustus is definitely bigger. The hike to the summit is a 12.8 Km return with an elevation gain of about 650m. On the return leg, I took the Gully trail half way down, that turned out to be a really slow going trail as it is very rocky, and some search...
Adventure to Steep Point ( Very Scenic )

The Steep Point on the mid-Western Australian coast is the most westerly point of the Australian Continent. My fist trip to there was in 2011, and was a fast trip, part of a 750Km day, don't know how I did it, but it was quick. It was in an 80 series Landcruiser. This time, with Sandi the truck camper, I decided to go slower, and took in the scenery slowly, and there were many surprises, not on...

On my 5th Lap around Australia, this marks the beginning of my odyssey of the Great Australian Bight, hugging mostly along the coast to the western point. The adventure was nearly aborted, as I encountered a particular soft path of the Seven Miles Beach, Sandi was bogged due to a moment of hesitation. After digging free the first time, it again was stopped just a few meters on. Being solo at th...
