There are no 1N60 or 1N4148's in this build. Only diode is a reverse voltage protect 1N5817 in series on the +v supply. I had tried 1N4148's in the feedback loop to limit the feedback (like a mag echo), but ended up finding a better way to implement that in the Tempus. But to answer your question - 1N60's will have a forward voltage around .3v, and 1N4148 will have a forward voltage around .7v. Be careful buying diodes that claim to be germanium 1N60 - both si and ge will show the correct germanium lower forward voltage and the only way I know to verify the composition is to throw it on a Peak DCA-75 and map the response curve. Anything you see on Amazon claiming to be germanium is almost certainly fake - stick with reputable pedal parts suppliers, and I've occasionally had issues even with them. Bat-46's sound great and are my preferred substitute when a circuit calls for a ge diode.

@@hbmultitecnologia5720 schematic is available in the build docs for the pedalpcb butthead, and if you want a PCB, you can source it there. Vero layout is available at dirtbox layouts. IIRC, this one was designed with W taper pots which weren’t available anywhere when I built this, but stompboxparts stocks them now. I never got the W pots - C taper worked well for my purposes and gave good control over the upper 50% of range - I didn’t feel like there was much useful in the bottom half of the bass and treble controls. Theres also a thread on the freestompboxes forum about mods for this circuit… I can’t remember exactly what I added, but I almost always do a 3 way clip select, the grunge sounded pretty bad lifting the clipping diodes, so I put the highest fv diodes in circuit and just used a switch to drop in the lower fv diodes.

Yes - pretty much. The mods that I added don’t really change the fundamental sound of the pedal.

Not at this point… maybe down the road. It sounds ok with some settings but as far as flexibility, I feel like it’s more of a one trick pony. There was another builder making the combo awhile back - of it was at all popular, he’d still be making them. If anyone is a pumpkins fan, they probably already have an op amp muff anyways. But you never know - I’ve got 3 or 4 things in development, once I get those done, I’ll re-assess and see.

@@monkeyriotpedals sorry I wrote that in an all messed up order XD What I wanted was a clean tone before, hearing the pedal engaging to hear the noise it adds to the amp and then seeing it getting tweaked as you go, but you mentioned that you have more demos on your channel, I’ll just go watch those :)

I understand now. On a lot of these videos, Iturn the effect off at the end of the clip or demo, so if you don’t see it at the beginning, stick around for the end of the video. It’s pretty much the same clean sound that’s in other clips too - I use the same rig (and usually settings too!) for making these vids. It’s a Torpedo CabM+ and the only preamp setting on there is a 100W Bassman.

No, you stand a good chance of making a pedal non-functional unless it's expressly designed to accept anything over 9V DC. Also critical to use a correct polarity supply. Reversed voltage can be destructive too. Unless it expressly says, always use a 9 volt DC center negative power supply. Most pedal DC Jacks are 2.1mm. Also - powering with an AC power supply can be destructive. There are a few pedals that use AC, but they ship with the correct power adapter.

NEVER feed any pedal a different voltage than what it is designed to take unless it is clearly stated by the manufacturer that you can do that in order to get a different sound (that's how you brick a pedal). Example: I was looking into the Orange Fur Coat octave fuzz pedal and on Orange's site it says you can give it 12V instead of 9 to get more headroom, and that also means you don't wanna go over 12, so don't do that uless you're a 1000% sure you can.

The shape control adds a decent amount of clarity and LED clipping adds another level to it. I wasn’t much of a Rat fan until I heard some of the modded ones. Tonestack is a little different too.

That’s a good description- I didn’t think about this until after - but the Secret77 will run at 18v and the extra headroom would make a big difference. This one’s got an OP07 opamp in it too - the OP07 sounds nice but it bottoms out at extreme gain and kinda square waves, which causes it to lose definition and predominantly feature the lowest note. There’s definitely a ton of sound’s available stacking these two, I’m just not too familiar with the genre.

I’ve found that drives generally seem to work better after the Rippletron - it seems to behave better on a cleaner signal and also adds some low end that can muddy things up if it’s after a drive that adds some thickness. The drive I used is a thick cascaded JFET design and beefs it up pretty good. It’s contrary to the belief of modulation after drive, but it’s one of those things to experiment with.

Thanks! The Carcosa is one of my most favorite fuzzes -I've got my version of a rat sitting around somewhere, it's the Secret77 - I'll try and get a vid of both of them together hooked up.

It toggles between "Easy" & "Hard" mode - Hard mode is useful when you're going for 8 bit Nintendo type effects, while Easy is more of a conventional fuzz. IIRC, Easy mode is also louder.

I've got it connected to the computer via usb cable - you can enable the tuner with pass through and it certainly sound like it bypasses everything. Otherwise, I just click on the header over each control - Preamp, Power Amp, EQ, Enhance and Reverb and they can individually be enabled/disabled.

Thanks!!! Me too - I went on a deep dive of octave down fuzzes and this one is by far the best IMO. There's a close second in the Big Jam Octave (SE-8??? I Think...) - But the Seppuku has less than half the parts and tracks down about another whole step. And the glitch switch is beyond cool! I've got layouts for a couple other Seppuku circuits but haven't built any - the Mindwarp looks interesting but not enough hours in the day.

@monkeyriotpedals the mindwarp is a brillient chorus/vibrato, but can be a little tempremental with locking. Iirc i made mine stable by putting a bigger resistor on pin 6. Also worth noting, the control lables are weird. Warp is blend and blend is depth or something like that.

Also ive not tried the Big Jam, ill have to put it on the ever growing list.

Yeah - Danick is a best. Chicken Picking and bluegrass (I liken it to speed metal with acoustic instruments) are every bit as difficult as the shredding we usually see in demo vids.

Close enough - Santa Rosa Beach. We’ve seen a couple but this was the only time we saw them in the vertical lift config (not sure what the correct term is.)

Ha! Yeah, it's pretty wild. I've got it setup with 1/8" jacks too - for interfacing with modular synth gear. You can also re-order the pedals by using 1/8" patches - there's an in and out for each effects and if you want a different order than how it's normalled, just swap the jacks. It's also got a clean blend control.

There are a LOT of pedal builders out there right now and it’s tough to break through all the noise of everyone else. I haven’t done much beyond selling locally in the Nashville music community - I just recently decided to try and grow the biz…. It’s one of those things with platforms like TH-cam and Instagram where you can get lucky and happen to come up with some magic combo of keywords and content that pushes you to the top of their algorithm OR you spend money to advertise. I haven’t been willing to spend much to advertise, so my reach is pretty limited. I’ve had 1 or 2 vids that have 1000+ views, but I’ve got no idea why those popped and the rest of my content didn’t.
