Reminds me of the time my uncle told me a story where he worked as a server during college, and he had a manager named Derrick at a mid-level restaurant who was a jerk 24/7 and always had a chip on his shoulder or something to say to everyone. Derrick worked part-time as an actor and was convinced he was going to blow up someday. My uncle said Derrick got a decent role offer, so he quit to follow his dream. Every day during his last week, he berated my uncle, constantly called him a bitch and a nobody, and said he’d never amount to anything. My uncle almost fought him on Derrick’s last day because Derrick poured grease on his back and threw a plate at him, but my uncle pulled a cleaver on him and chased him until they were separated. Fast forward about 18+ years, and my uncle, now working on Wall Street, takes me to dinner. We stop at a nice restaurant, and when we’re seated, he tells me the story of Derrick and says he isn’t sure if one of the servers is him. Eventually, the guy comes over to serve us, and I think they both instantly recognized each other but didn’t say anything. Derrick, now working as just a server, looked miserable. He was pretty chubby, and you could tell he was balding. At the end of dinner, when my uncle paid and was handed his check to sign for the tip, he quickly signed a $0 tip, called Derrick back, and threw the checkbook on the table where you could clearly see $0. He said, “Enjoy the tip, bitch,” and laughed at Derrick. Derrick then lunged at my uncle and swung on him, landing quite a lot of hits and ultimately knocking my uncle down. My uncle did manage to break a wine glass on his head during the commotion, though. After it was separated, the manager came, apologized, and offered him a refund and a free meal next time we came. We came back a week later, and Derrick was nowhere to be seen. We ordered $500+ worth of food and got it for free. Definitely a memorable moment for my uncle and me.

Your uncle had the opportunity to be the bigger man, and he chose to knock down someone who was already down because of the way he was 20+ years ago. I hope the lesson you learned was to not be like either of them.

I am so sorry for your loss. I cannot imagine how you feel. Please do not give up hope that things will eventually become easier. It must be difficult to imagine moving forward but as someone who knew and loved your wife very much, ask yourself what your wife would want for you? If she were still here and you had passed away, think about what you would want for your wife. It must be an incredibly difficult time for you, and I hope you have family and friends around you when you need them. Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers and I wish you healing, love and hope. God bless you 🙏

@Tracey-zr5do Thankyou for your support it is very much appreciated and touching at this time. As I reply to you at this late hour I will be cremating my wife at 11.30 AM today 28th Aug 2024. Unfortunately I do no longer have family but I do have a stray cat that we took in a few years back ( Hansome Bob ). So gotta think of him now especially after him lossing his mum and our home.

Find comfort in Hansome Bob and know your cat will find comfort in knowing and experiencing the kindness and time that only you can give. Animals are a great comfort. God bless you 🙏

@Tracey-zr5do Thankyou for thinking about me yesterday. I've got to honest it was a tough day. But on the other hand it was nice to see so many people turn up for Christine's funeral to celebrate her life. Once again thankyou for the support at a stressful time in my life
