Hi Joe, Thanks. The rod is a Shimano model that is no longer available in the UK, but they have plenty of other options for 4 piece depending on where you live. I was fishing on the Nicoya peninsula. I like to use 30lb braid with 50lb leader as you never know when a good one may come along. Most lures work ok but livebait is better if you can catch some.

If you're still there and need tackle you can go to Paso Canoas at the border with Panama. There are several stores there that have rods, reels, lures and the basic stuff you need. I haven't been in 5 years, but I used to live in Pavones on the Pacific side way down south and I often bought fishin' stuff in Paso Canoas. The Jerusalem store had some, the City Mall had some, and the Chine place (I forget the name, Wang Sung or something like that). The Chinese place and Jerusalem were the best back then. You can legally shop there on the Panamanian side and find tons of stuff you'll never get in Costa Rica. It might be far for you, but you'll find food and clothes and all kinds of curious things there. Go during the day, early is good. It can be crowded, VERY hot or wet. Do not go out at night there, please. I'm not kidding when I say it's wild there, and dangerous especially at night. But if you live down there and need stuff it's a great place to go. You can also cross into Panama and go shopping in Davíd. I've heard from American friends that there's good tackle shops there but I never went to those.
wow congratulation what a fish, what's your rod please ? I need to find a rod for cosatrica for the shore and i don't know what to use, i search a very goo caster ;)

Cast net is best or sometimes small Sabiki lures.

I take all my gear with me, the rods are all 4 pieces and fit into a large suitcase.

A heavy spinning rod is ideal, something that casts up to around 80 gram.
