    Imo, red was better, but it's your bike

      the red color was good enough, but the owner has decided contrary, IMO the new color is much better, the contrasting head tube paint reminds me of japanese bikes and the white portion on the seat tube is the same as on classic Atala and Colnago racers

      Wow, I interested about your Groupset. I have an old vintage road bike Shimano groupset. But its only 12 speed Where did you get it ? Im from Indonesia by the way

    • @mladendurin

      @@yosafathutotom1811 it has 16 speed because i replaced the original rear derraileur mech which had just 6 speed, with 6401 ultegra tricolore derraileur. Original non idexed 6207 shifters on the downtube can handle up to 8 speed. I didnt replacing them.. And the most important thing is to replace the rear wheel. You must be able to put 8 speed casette on it! It od complexed job but its possible!

    It's a nice bike and you did a good job. Personally, I would have loosened the brake levers from the bars to route the tape under and also added brake hoods. I'm sure it's a great ride. (It's my size!!)

    This i exactly what i've been looking for. I want to convert a vintage roadbike into a single speed. All I can find is fixed gear conversions and that's precisely what I don't want. I want to be able to coast and just use brake handles. I'm thinking of installing straight handlebars with new brake handles, as i'm planning on useing it for daily use in which i want a slightly more comfortable position

    • @DavidvdGulik
      @DavidvdGulik 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      What did you do with the rear wheel to convert it into a single speed? What was on it originally, a casette or a freewheel? I've been thinking that a cassette might be easier because you can just play around with spacers to get the drivetrain in a straight line, if I pick up a bike with a freewheel that might be quite a headache i suspect.

  • @jachymzahour9461
    @jachymzahour9461 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    did you just change the cassette? or how did you make it a singlespeed? id also love to try this

    Pedals aren't original either. Rear derailleur is the 600 tri color not ex, but I'm sure it was what was put on there with the other 600 parts. I wonder if at the time this was sold as a frame only (not unheard of, might even be standard) by Columbus or as a complete bike. There could be old Columbus catalog pdfs floating around somewhere online. Groupset would put it mid to late 80's if it was a complete.

    You are lucky some hipster didn't make it into a fixie and cut off the derailleur hanger, etc.

    Nice job. A clear passion for older bikes, like me. They're the best, I think. Just as fast as a modern road bike (it's the rider, not the bike, as always). I've got about ten of these bastards and right now I'm cleaning up a Shogun, that's just new enough to have Look pedals & shoes, but no indexing. Every minute is joy.

      I think the brand is saratoga or happy color! Primer is also from spray can and sanded with water sand paper and water till i reached glass surface! enjoy with your project! Cheers

      mladendurin I just bought a used vintage bike today and I want to repaint it! I've never done painting before, so I couldn't understand what you meant by "primer, sanded with water sand paper" ... etc. Can you please elaborate more about this and explain it more? Did you have to remove the old paint before or just sprayed over the old paint? Thanks a lot of your help!!!

    • @gucko123
      @gucko123 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      mladendurin oh so I did some googling on painting. So did you apply the following steps: 1- applied water sand paper till you removed the old paint, 2- applied a primer, 3- sprayed with the paint? Were these the steps?

    Excellent looking bike, well done on the resto. I managed to pick-up a mid `80s Colnago for $100 about 10yrs ago,before they became trendy. Love riding it, it too has a full shimano 600 group set, Turbo saddle. Which has a date stamp on it,marking it at mid 1985. If your bike still has the original saddle,have a look at the underside it might have a date stamp.

    I have an early 1980s proctor racing bike renolds 531 double butted tubing. campagnola record components throughout including brakes. Proctor made frames for the canadian olympic teem. He was known for his fine detail on his bikes. the equal of any italian frames.
