Short Tour of My 2024 Garden
The 2024 garden is finally in! I am hoping to produce quite a bit of food this year, and hope to keep getting better at it. Growing your own food is very rewarding, I believe everyone should try to at least produce a little of their own food.

I Found Silver Metal Detecting in Athens MI
มุมมอง 265หลายเดือนก่อน
I found my first confirmed piece of silver so far this year while metal detecting a park in Athens, MI. Finding a piece of silver always puts a smile on my face. After some research it turns out that this piece is called a heart style ear wheel and is part of traditional Great Lakes Native American silver trade jewelry. It is likely modern, but probably belonged to someone from the Potawatomi t...

Great overview of your Gold Cube!
Thank you!
I miss my garden, my yard is almost all shade now at this house.but I will enjoy watching yours grow..... nice job!!
Yeah, unfortunately shade can be hard to work with. Thanks for watching!
Starting to gain a liking to Athens. I have been taking my trommel out there for testing and I found a picker there last weekend. Also as a heads up they were excavating more when i was there so the landscape changes often.
Awesome! I have found some nice chunky pieces, but no picker yet. Thats cool that they are turning up some fresh dirt. I am going to try and get out there again soon for a day or two.
Im sure I'll be out there once or twice next week. May spend a day at the lake also.
If you decide on a second pump you can do the Mike Pung dowel rod trick. Roll a 10" x 5/8" dowel rod down the top tray so it plugs the first g force drop thing. If the water over flows out the cut outs of the tray then you have too much flow. With a speed controller you can dial it in perfect. That's how I run mine when I'm using my topper with a 2000gph pump. I run longer hoses than the stock hose that comes with it so I went with a larger pump to counter act the added head pressure.
Nice, I probably won't make it out for a few weeks.
Interesting, that is a good idea. I might have to try that out at some point. Using the 1200gph pump with the trommel seems to do pretty decent as long as I can keep the water well supplied and clean.
É isso aír companheiro. Boa caçada! Que Deus abençoa sempre sua vida! Se for possível se escreva no meu canal no TH-cam: Leon detectorismo.
And now you can't take it out to the lake superior beach anymore.
I know, that was really sad because that was the primary place I wanted to take it.
@MyMIAdventures-cv4dt ya, I just finally put together a self-contained power sluice to take up there.
Hopefully next year they allow it again.
Thank you Jacob it was a blast mining with you I will be posting a snuffer dump soon. Heavy pans friend.
I had a blast too. I will be looking forward to that video. Heavy pans brother.
I think I want one of those.
If you do a lot of prospecting, I highly recommend it.
Highwater prospecting is my brother and we work together.
Nice job, now all you need is an ecoworthy 50 amp hour battery,12 lbs and will run both trommel and pump all day 8-10 hrs straight. syr i miss ya out at gerts.
Thanks, I will need a battery like that for sure. Did you go to Gert's? Unfortunately, I was only there for a day.
@@MyMIAdventures-cv4dt no, I had other engagements. Sry
No problem, maybe next time.
@@MyMIAdventures-cv4dt I am at athens right now......
Oh cool, I am actually only about 40 min from Athens. How long are you staying there?
Cool setup indeed fam. Great job all around. Keep on having fun getting that Au and living the dream. Gold Squad Out 🤠
Thanks! Will do!
Is the Athens site no longer a GPAA site?
It used to be owned by the LDMA and was used for the GPAA events, now it has been sold to a private owner. He is still allowing the gold events and prospecting. I guess the MI chapter of the GPAA is inactive at the moment and most of its members have formed a new group called the GPM (Gold Prospectors of Michigan). The GPM is now hosting the events out at Athens.
Great video but I would say kill the background music. Can’t wait to get up there in a week or so.
Thank you for watching, I do appreciate the constructive criticism. Was there any particular part, or all of the background music? We only added it to the interview part because of some editing I had to do to get the fountain noise to quiet down. It ended up making the audio for that portion a little weird.
Don't know if you used JetDry but it is essential. I could be wrong but it also looked like the water was too fast. Just an observation that could provide more gold from that sand.
I appreciate the observation; you could certainly be right about the water flow. I did not use jet dry in the video, but I do usually use some Dawn dish soap when doing the cleanup. I should pick up some jet dry and try that, everyone seems to recommend it.
Great times indeed fam. Keep on having fun and living the dream. Gold Squad Out 🤠
Thanks for watching! Heavy pans.
Jacob & Hannah, what a great job of video capturing you did at Gert’s Place. Glad you had a great experience. Looking forward to seeing you two again!!
Thank you! It was a lot of fun; we look forward to seeing you again soon.
Thank you so much for the fuses!
Nice. Hiw far south are ya. I wanna get out but im n northern indiana
I am south of Kalamazoo. I am not sure how far it is for you, but I have heard Brown County in Indiana has some gold. Or depending how far North you are you could check out Athens, MI.
Great times indeed fam. Keep on having fun getting that Au and living the dream. Gold Squad Out 🤠

Very nice!!, definitely run, run, run, remember to classify.

Always! Thanks for watching.
Thank you for the memories. I grew up down the road from there by the river. I lost most of that falling off the merry-go-round, lol
Thank you for watching. Haha yeah those were designed to suck the money out of your pockets.
Those some pretty cool finds , always love the glass stuff. Thanks for taking us along.
Thanks for watching, the glass finds are great. Especially when they are as intact as that one was.
Great find!!! That Sterling Silver piece was made by Chuck Leonard (my uncle) probably in the 1990's. As you already figured out, it is a replica of 1700's "ear wheel" that traders would have exchanged with the natives for furs.
Thank you! Yeah, it was exciting to dig it up, but the cool part about it was doing the research about it to find out what it was. That is a nice piece, your uncle did great work.
I just ran across your channel, depending on where abouts your located maybe we could detect together. I'm in Lapeer and have detected for over 35 yrs. Knowledge is key when detecting and the difference between finding trash or treasures! No pressure, just thought I'd throw that out there. Great vid, I'm sure your Dad is smiling. Nice looking Tom!
Thank you for watching! I am glad you enjoyed it. That would be really cool, I could use a few pointers for sure. I have been at it for a few years, but my really good finds have been few and far between. I live down by Three Rivers, but I am actually from Chesaning. That really is fairly close to Lapeer, and I am back in that area pretty regularly.
@@MyMIAdventures-cv4dt Great! Sounds like a chance to get together is possible. What kind of detector are you using? I'm using a Garrett A T Pro,, its a nice machine for finding coins. I've wanted to buy the Minelab monster 1000,which is an excellent gold nugget machine, but I've never known of gold in Mi.? But coins are a different story, Mi. has tons of them in the ground just waiting to be dug up. Ya just gotta know where to look...
Yes, it is definitely possible, I will leave my email below. I have the Garret AT Max, I think it really similar to the pro. I have yet to find a silver coin, I have found a few silver rings and some other jewelry, but really want to find some old coins. You are exactly right about knowing where to look. There is gold in MI most of it is glacial gold deposits, but there are some places that have higher concentrations. I have heard the Rouge River, a tributary to the Grand River, has produced nuggets. Might be worth looking into. jkohlhoff3@gmail.com
@@MyMIAdventures-cv4dt Got your email, watch for my email from a "smartass", sometimes it goes to spam. Ken
Oh yeah, never run dry material, unless you are using the trommel.
Well if I'm correct, you're money is still there , meaning , a lifetime membership is a set price, you paid $xxx , so it went towards the lifetime membership. Pretty shur .
I will have to check and see; I do know they offer a lifetime membership. I think from memory though that I only paid for a two or three-year membership. I can check into it though.
Looks like you had fun, just one thing you had everthing you need. You don't use the water hook up on the cube you only use the trommel water hook up. Water will come out of the cube so I just used a piece of tape and blockex it of. Hope this help cobbles to ya.
Thank you for the tip, that makes sense. I'll definitely run it that way the next time I get out.
By chance are you part of the gpaa?? Please let me know.
I had a three-year membership a few years ago, but unfortunately, I didn't really do much with it at the time so I did not renew it. I was thinking about becoming a member again though.
Bro, you just run the trommel with water and that is the same pump from the cube . It feeds the water to the rest of the cube. You don't need 2 pumps
That makes sense, I thought about that. I just wasn't sure if there was going to be a loss of GPM running it that way that would negatively affect the flow through the cube. Thank you for the tip, haha I am glad I don't need to buy another pump.
Great job all around fam. Keep on having fun getting that Au and living the dream. Gold Squad Out 🤠
Very cool. Bummer on not being able to run the trommel. Keep it up.
First one yeah!! Oh,uh, i mean thanks for sharing 👍 heavy pans brother
Very nice indeed, thanks for taking us along and sharing. Looks like it was a great day out.
Thanks for watching, it was awesome weather for sure.
Remove the bung to allow more air in, even if you don't add a blower. Also, keeping the door closed works better. you're letting air in that will cool the overall temperature inside. The overall goal is to generate as much heat on the hot side of the pan (and the hottest fire possible, the law of thermal conduction) so it can flow into the pan and into the sap, creating as much steam as possible. This is why the larger evaporators (and even people running barrel evaporators do it) will insulate with ceramic insulation. Also, creating an arch or ramp from about the midpoint to the back where the flue is, helps direct the fire across the entire length of the pan. Helps combust the fuel better too. Keep at it, its a fun process!
Thank you for the advice! I definitely am going to remove the bung and try some of the other techniques as well. It is a lot of fun trying to perfect the craft.
By the looks of the birds walking around I would get the turkey fryer back out
Haha it is a long story, but they are actually just pets.
Well done, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Do you do both red and silver maples or only silver?
I do not believe I tapped any red, mostly sugar maples and some silver.
@@MyMIAdventures-cv4dt could you do a video on the different types of maples and how you can identify them? Im just starting out in the syrup game and its not as easy as i thought on identifying trees lol
I could probably make that happen, although admittedly I would have to do a little research myself. This was only my second year doing syrup, so I am not expert level yet either. Great idea for a video though, thank you for the suggestion.
Great finds!!, love that old split bolt, prob. Edison. Thanks for sharing!!
Thank you! Yeah, I thought that bolt was pretty cool too.
Wait a minute… you have a pet turkey??? That’s amazing 😂
It's a long story, but I actually have four pet turkeys... haha
Awesome job. Nice shiny! New sub here.
Thank you! It's always awesome to see the glint of gold in the pan.
@@MyMIAdventures-cv4dt awesome sample your dad sent you. 👍
Yes it was, he had a knack for finding really good spots. The beach sand in Nome is known for having a ton of gold. They have regulated it quite a bit now, but people used to live on the beach in tents during the summer months and mine.
I also have the gold cube w trommel. I will say this, a slick plate catches NO gold, get you some v groove matting and silicone it down, don't use anything too permanent. Always use some jet dry, when panning flour gold Always rock back and forth. Never swip or swirl your pan. Looking good , heavy pans. If you get agold wheel get the big 24" one. Cobbles
Thank you for the advice, I will get a mat for that slick plate for sure. It will take me a little bit, but I am sure I will get that panning technique down. I did lose a bit by swirling the pan, but I will run it all back through again to catch what I lost and use it to practice panning. I am going to look into that gold wheel, I have been hearing good things about it.
Cobbles!!!
The slick plate is not supposed to catch gold
That why you have the other 2 trays😊
@@Berkshireminingco thank you for watching 😁
Great video! I have the cube with the trommel and love it. Also have the blue bowl and a spiral wheel to help separate black sands from gold. Nice dedication to your dad as well. RIP August😢😢
Thank you! I can't wait for the trommel to come in, it will be such a time saver out in the field. I will have to check out that spiral wheel, finish panning takes a long time the old school way.
You should learn how to pin point and another hint funny need the play by play I'm waiting for the warmer weather here in the north before i do my first detecting video
Admittedly the pinpointing in this video is subpar, I do pretty well with the pinpoint function on my detector normally. Future videos should be better as I craft a good format and get more used to filming my digs. Hope you get some good weather soon, good luck on your first video.
Nice setup. I hope you get a lot of gold this summer. I just ordered a pan and looking forward to getting out and giving it a try. I don't think there is much in my area in Vermont but it will be fun anyway. Thanks for the video.
Thank you! You never know what you may find, do some research on where gold settles in rivers and streams and then start sampling some areas. You will definitely have fun getting out and trying. Good luck, I hope you turn up some good gold.
I couldn`t here the detector or pinpointer, it`s a better video when the detectors are audible.
Thank you, I will include those going forward.
They really did love that banana 😂
They sure did! Haha
I added a blower in the bung hole, turbocharged my boil.
Nice, I was thinking about doing something like that to speed up the process. Thanks for the idea.
Adding a fan does that burn through more fire wood??
@@danielfrancisco8678 not really because you get done faster
@davelorge5156 have any issues with having to clean ashes out before being done boiling sap? Say 40 gallons?
@@danielfrancisco8678 no issues with ash ,boil rate is 5-6 gallons per hour
