I had a couple reasons for recording this. I have one of 3 Explorers that the late Eric Shulte of Norristown, Pa. built. I picked it up in the ‘90s used at a pro shop. Was playing around 2 note modal tuning Stephen Stills used on “4&20”. Came up with a riff that I thought would be cool if Kendrick Lamar would perform over it. Since I don’t know him, I figured my best chance would be to learn it myself. This will be my only foray in to hip hop genre. Was interesting to step out of comfort zone.

I remember being 14 and trying to play this. 24 years old seemed so far away then. Now 50 years later, it’s a distant dream. Stephen Stills and Chris Smither were probably my two favorite acoustic guitar players.
