I wanted to ask you. I have I believe persistent migraine aura. I experience illusory palinopsia that has been persistent for weeks. I feel I may have had symptoms of it for 6-7 months but it got really bad over the past month. And has seemingly peaked now. I am starting preventive migraine medications this week. I feel my anxiety has also made it worse. Two weeks ago I had a normal brain mri. So I am not sure what to think any thoughts?

Doctors, they only treat the symptoms! They never look as to why you may have a chemical (neurotransmitter) imbalance. I take 25 for sleep and presently exploring alternative options. For those interested take a look at the book The Functional Nutrition Cookbook (Addressing Biochemical Imbalances Through Diet). To me, there is a lack of medical coordination of expertise. Specialists of differing medical backgrounds should convene together, in my opinion. To share what they know. The medical world needs a complete overhaul in the way it collates and delivers medicine. Where are the entrepreneurial thinkers in bringing together the experts?! My rant over.

It’s very nice to hear. this is being recommended as a first line therapy without having to “fail” 2 other migraine prophylactic drugs. When I asked about a CGRP drug, my doctor told me I had to fail another drug before I could be prescribed a CGRP drug. So he wrote me an Rx for topiramate but I haven’t been able to bring myself to try it. I’ve been a lifelong sufferer of migraines, and why shouldn’t I get to try one of the new CGRP’s? Any advice on how to talk to my Dr to get him to consider prescribing? I had been on propranolol for about a decade with very little difference, and my doctor doesn’t know it, but before that I had tried amitriptyline. So technically, I’ve already failed 2 anyway

THIS MAY HELP SOME PEOPLE I'm 54. April 2, 2023 I had my first aura (without headache). Since then I've had 4-5 episodes per month (41 in total); sometimes twice in one day. I had an MRI and a visit to an Ophthalmologist; everything was fine. On April 11, 2024 I had a very unusual episode- a scary one. The entire field of vision was moving left to right and back again- bouncing side to side. It lasted a few hours and then it resolved. It never reoccurred but it scared me. I wanted to see if there was anything I could do to stop the aura so I made some changes: I was taking a blood thinner (Xarelto 10mg) and multivitamins/supplements (one-a-day vitamin, fish oil, saw palmeto, vitamin D tablet- nothing strange)- taken on the same day. I decided to both space them out and separate them. I now take the blood thinner on Monday, Wednesday, Friday afternoon and Sunday morning. I take the vitamins Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. I initiated this spacing on April 20. My last aura was on May 23. I haven't had an aura in 78 days and counting! I'm not sure if I was taking too many blood thinners, too many multivitamins, or it was the interaction between the two. I did read later that multivitamins, while being useless can also interact with medication. I no longer take that multivitamin tablet at all now. No one told me that auras could be caused by the interaction of medications/vitamins. I hope this helps some people!

It’s been two hrs it hasn’t helped yet but I’ll give it more time. I still have hope. Thank you for your video. I get mine from a neurologist and we have been through many drugs. Sumatriptan works the best for me but they can only prescribe 14 of those a month. I never had migraines before and then I got Covid and the migraine started and it took 4 months to get a sample of Qulipta. That one works too. I cried when I finally got relief. I had been suffering day and night with the biggest migraine and would finally sleep on the third day of having a migraine because the pain was too bad to even touch my head on ann be pillow or couch. Have you ever seen illusory palinopsia as a symptom of persistent migraine with aura? I’ve been experiencing illusory palinopsia for months now which seemingly keeps getting worse, although I do think my anxiety / awareness of it have played into it. In MRIs before theee symptoms started I have 3-4 white foci spots which I know is a sign of migraine especially with aura. But the spots are the same size in all tests over the past two years, no sign of infarction nothing. Ophthalmologist checked my eyes - can’t find anything wrong. I have all the symptoms of visual snow EXCEPT the visual snow (tinnitus, photophobia, palinopsia, etc) I do occasionally in the morning get some static in my vision when I wake up but it’s minor. These afterimages have been driving me crazy and my neurologist & neuro ophthalmologist don’t seem to know what’s causing it other then it’s “possibly” persistent migraine aura. I do get visual auras every few weeks, just the palinopsia seems to be consistent. Any idea what could be happening?

Do you have more info? I am taking this for migraines after a car wreck I had a bad concussion. Over 2 months later still getting headaches. My doctor put me on this. My headache is less, but still there. 😞 I have only been taking this a week. She said to let her know after a month if it’s not working. It’s also making me so tired all day. I don’t feel awake. It’s not good, but better than my headache.

Sorry about this. Make sure you are not overtreating with otc drugs like Advil, caffeine, or triptans more than 2 days a week. Concussion headache usually lasts less than a month. Amitriptyline makes one tired, take it earlier in the evening.

@@whatismigraine-britttalley233 ok, right now I am just taking 1 about an hour before bedtime. I just feel over tired the entire day. It’s almost been a month. I will probably call my doctor and see what she says. Thank you!

Ugh Amytriptyline! My doctor prescribed it for nerve pain that's troublesome at night. I could hardly drag myself around the next day - it made me feel positively depressed. I was only on the 10mg dose. Stuck it for 7 days and simply had to stop. After 24 hrs I came alive again.

There should be warning on this. I am on it for 15 years and I can’t sleep without it, depressed as hell and coming off it makes you go crazy. Do not use this without considering the long term affects.
