Finding Your People: The Key to Successful Fundraising | Fundraising Building Blocks Series
Building a strong community of supporters is essential for successful fundraising, whether you're seeking annual gifts, major donations, corporate support, or organizing events. Your people are the driving force behind your fundraising success!
🙌 Welcome to the second installment of our Fundraising Building Blocks Series! 🏆 In this video, we're diving into a fundamental aspect of successful fundraising: "Finding Your People."
🔍 A lot of fundraising boils down to two crucial questions: Why do you need to raise money, and who are you going to ask?
In our first video, we tackled the compelling "Why" with the case for support. Now, we're delving into the equally vital "Who" - the process of finding your people.
➡️We look at an old-school acronym fundraisers often turn to when trying to figure out the WHO of it all.
➡️We examine why one part of this famous acronym is the MOST important one early on in building relationships with supporters in your community.
➡️ And I know not everyone loves a "funnel" metaphor, but I've got one to share that, I promise, is cute & fun to use instead of icky.
➡️ Plus, tips on how to find "your people". They are out there, and they already love what you do!
Successful fundraising STARTS with a passionate community that believes in your cause. As you identify and connect with more of your people, your fundraising efforts will flourish.

    I am submitting a grant soon to a funder that I previously submitted to and was successful at getting funding from. Thinking I can dump in the previous submission as a sample, use the same categories, and ask chatgpt to merge in the pieces of new content written by the various partners and put the content in the appropriate categories..can it do that? I have zero time to get this grant submission together and have big time been procrastinating on it

      Thank you for the comment! I recorded this video over a year ago and it seems like the whole world has changed since then when it comes to AI. Even so, I still give basically the same advice when using ChatGPT to help write grants, you still need the human in the equation (thank goodness!)

    Hello Kim! So glad I have run across your site! I am brand-new at this process. My parents own a decent sized nonprofit in the Hawaiian Islands (about 45 acres). We specialize in endangered species of plants and reforestation. My parents are getting older so I'm slowly starting the process of taking things over. Scary! Anyway, it's time to take the project to the next level. You had mentioned a template you have called "the mother of all grant applications template". I love the title. I would also be curious to know your input on organizations like InstrumentL??

I am open to hearing more about your organization and some of the ideas you have coming up for this important transition. Maybe I can provide some clarity, I love working with environmental organizations. Feel free to book a time on my website or add me on LinkedIn if you want to chat! www.cedarfundraising.ca

    Great video. FYI, I use the newest (paid) edition of ChatGPT, and you are able to really personalize the responses and tone of the writing. Also, I specified that I want citable sources for statistics and other hard information, and so far, it delivers pretty well. I'm still getting used to interacting with it, I keep treating it like an answer-bot instead of a chat bot, thanks for the helpful tips on how to herd it along!

      Thanks for sharing your experiences with the upgraded version of chatGPT Jessica! I filmed this back in March '23 and so I'm sure the technology is already improved a great deal. I've also found the Bing chatbot to be useful for research and finding supporting details for proposals as it provides the sources.

    Case for support is different from the Mission Statement?

    • @cedarfundraising
      @cedarfundraising ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, a Case is going to speak to the emotional (not logical!!) reasons why someone is going to support you. There will be many reasons why, but likely you will find some common threads. Example: John grew up with a loving parent who was also not literate and struggled to find/keep work. John understands this struggle deeply and desires to support others who are facing the same challenges as his parent. Ask your current supporters/volunteers/advisors why this work is important to them -- it will likely not involve statistics :) Also check out the Case Writers link I have in the description for some great examples

    I've heard that donors have started using AI-detection tools while reviewing grant proposals to detect whether a piece is human-generated >> with the possibility of rejecting a proposal if a big percentage is ai-generated. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this!

    • @cedarfundraising
      @cedarfundraising ปีที่แล้ว

      That's interesting, I haven't heard of this... it seems to me that the point of a grant application is to convey the information necessary to making a funding decision, not to produce original content! I would suspect that a funder would be mainly concerned as to whether the information is correct and authentic. Sometimes chatGPT will fabricate statistics and even quotes, so grant writers should be mindful of this by verifying facts and updating any quotes with actual testimonials. As with all AI-generated content, it is best practice not to copy and paste it directly, but use it as a framework or starting-point. For grants, I still think it is best to feed chatGPT with content you have already created and then prompt to rephrase or rewrite to fit the parameters of the question. Also note: Since creating this video I have also learned more about privacy concerns with the free version of chatGPT and encourage fundraisers to understand these before inputting donor data. I have an update here: th-cam.com/video/0lb7AM2lCZM/w-d-xo.html
