An avid X-Plane 12 and VATSim fan, I enjoy nothing more than pottering about in a bewildering array of light planes all over the world. I am an active member of the CIX VFR Club, a friendly community of Flight Simulator enthusiasts who regularly fly together online.
I love tinkering with scenery and add-on's. My favourite add-ons are LitteNavMap and Air Manager.
If you like my work, please consider buying me a coffee on ko-fi.

Love it one day i shall succeed a butter landing at St Barts! Can you tell me how you get the mini instruments at the top of the screen please - thanks
I use Air Manager to create the strip of instruments give it a see through background and drop it on top of X-Plane. Plan to do a video on this in the new year
@ColinParker1967 thanks I'm a relatively new user of Air manager so I'd not discovered that - what a great idea 👍
It's definitely better than xp11.. it's a work in progress.....I like using it with the plugin ,X Chatter
Agreed, I am not sure it will ever be as good as interacting with a real controller though…
This was very cool to watch, so thank you. New sub too.
Thanks, still haven’t worked out how to land the A22 well though 😀. New year’s resolution I reckon….
Man I can't get passed how awful those graphics are.
Oscar Mike Golf. That's great!
Thanks
Interesting video. Thank you for sharing. I've never considered tinkering with a facade.
Interesting isn’t it. The latest format allows for some really quite sophisticated effects including attached objects.
Very helpful and thanks!
Thanks
Thats Not the default Look grafic wise right. Is it autho ortho?
Orbx True Earth Great Britain South for X-Plane 12. I think there is still a free trial of the scenery for Southampton and the Isle of Wight.
For those wanting to try the same flight: Popham, Hampshire (EGHP) to Bembridge on the Isle of Wight (EGHJ)
Thanks
Great videos, what other scenery software are you running ? Have you tried Lossless scaling software to boost frame rate ?
Thanks. I may have downloaded some of the airfields using WorldEditor but otherwise, just the Orbx TrueEarth. I haven’t tried the lossless scaling software yet. Chatting to people about it, I understand it behaves a bit oddly if you have multiple apps running on different screens which I do. Will give it a go and post something about it at some point
Never tried this. Will now give it a go. You would have failed an IFR checkride - ±100' 🙂 I know you like a low sun, and it is pretty, but very dull to watch for an hour...... Thanks for doing these videos.
Thanks for the feedback. It’s funny you mention the sky, I was thinking the same thing the other day as well. I have a habit of tracking real world time and weather. It turns out that recording early in the UK approaching winter often results in a bleak aspect!
I fly mostly IFR flight plans in X-Plane 12. The ATC is dismal, in my opinion, for filing IFR flight plans, and the flight following feature has me changing squawk codes more often than is necessary. ATC during IFR operations unfailingly gives me vectors that stray from my filed flight plan, and the majority of IFR flights are not logged as such in the X-Plane 12 logbook. Great video, mate! 😊
@@nathanwildthorn6919 That's why I fly IFR in PilotEdge!
Thanks, it will be interesting to see if the promised updates result in a step change. What is a bit weird at Humberside is the missing out of the Approach controller in the the transition to London Control. That and the unwillingness to clear landings in VFR.
PilotEdge is a brilliant service. Too expensive for me so I just sign up once a year for Oskkosh. This was brilliant th-cam.com/video/0-a2TmW5O40/w-d-xo.html
I presume that was with Orbx TE. That was a low circuit 🙂
Yep, looks good in the Dawn light I reckon
Cool thanks. I recall it always being very clear days there in real life. Laurie. NZ. 😊
I couldn’t believe the strength of some of the wind over the mountains….
Like you, I am flying the Cessna 172 Skyhawk and learning the basics of managing flaps, ailerons, rudder and the rest. At this point I am flying with zero wind and trying my best to take off on the center line and landing on it, too -- it ain't easy and I shuffly from left to right. I'm really enjoying X-Plane 12. I've sub'd, liked and will receive notifications of your future flights.
Thank you for these encouraging words. Hope you enjoy my back catalogue… check out my channel description for links to some useful additional software and the CIX VFR Club: youtube.com/@colinparker1967?si=l023LStcMOe8kLRr
Bro , You were bi-cycling the rudder pedals on your take off run , If I'v not flown in a while , I chase the center line too !! lol !!
Yeah I know 😀… more or less the first time in the stock C172… need to practice more…
Sunsets and nights are so nice in X-Plane.
I agree….
I own both Microsoft and XP- 12.. I've been doing flight simulation for about 25 years and I can proudly say that I enjoy both simulators for different reasons... Keep up the good work Austin!!
Yep, long may the competition drive both products forward.
Would have been a laugh to see a landing speed plugin, but I guess those tundra tyres absorb the worst. Looks huge fun! Thanks. Going to download the scenery now 🙂
Nice one, I would be interested to hear how you get in.
how did you get those flight instruments on top? Nice video!!
Thanks, using a separate panel in Air Manager which is great product made by SimInnovations.
Thanks for flying ArkanSTOL and for showcasing my scenery! 'Driftwood' the tiny strip on the west is always moving, so unfortunately there are not any satellite imagery which contain it. As a result, I had to cut a hole in the 3D grass so that the runway could be seen, because geotiffs will cover up a grass runway in XP. You did better than a lot of folks who've never flown the course! Cheers!
Thanks, lovely scenery and a real challenge to do at all, let alone well. It sure I will ever be competition standard but will keep trying.
Do you use something to look around like TrackIR ?
I use opentrack to manage the head movement in X-Plane and aitrack to actually track head movement. Both are free and open source applications. github.com/AIRLegend/aitrack github.com/opentrack A bit fiddly to setup but they do work very well. The instructions are pretty clear. Happy to do a short intro video if there is interest.
Great X-Plane 12 video of Robin DR401 flight. 🛩👍
Thanks
Nice Scenery, thanks for the video. how did you display the flight instruments at the top of the screen?
I use Air Manager by Sim Innovations to run my main instrument panel in a separate screen. I also create a separate instrument strip as a panel and layer it over the top of X-Plane
Great video and flying. I've not flown in New Zealand but I'll give it a try after watching this. I'd like to ask how you get your flight instruments to appear on the screen when you're using an external camera please? Thank you.
I use Air Manager from SimInnovations to display my instrument panel and a second “screen strip” with key instruments and then just display the “strip” in front of x-plane.
@@ColinParker1967 Thank you.
Tricky airport for landing, you handled it well, I will try it one day , need lots of practice.
You should give it a go. I particularly enjoyed giving the figure of 8 circuit a go…
Why would anyone play xplane when they can play msfs?
I’ve tried both and for a variety of reasons prefer X-Plane. Not that I think MSFS isn’t a good simulator, it simply isn’t for me. Competition between Microsoft and Laminar is giving both sides better products so win-win I say. Thanks for watching the video.
Bc XPlane is more realistic. FAA approved as well.
I wish X-Plane had little more focus on the social and bush flying, like multiplayer, maybe even you could have a character to walkaround with, and have meet up in remote areas. 😌
I suspect running around in the woods as an avatar will never be X-Plane’s gig. However, there a few options for flying together, VATSim being the most popular. If you are not already a member check out www.cixvfrclub.org.uk. We are a friendly bunch committed to online flying in small planes.
20fps with FSX graphics hmmm. No thanks.
Each to their own I guess. Thanks for giving it a watch…
Hi the air port is free?
Yep
Just as well you got the Van's stopped in time, there are sharks swimming around that bay. I'm not joking, I saw them as I was checking out the new scenery in the Bell 412 😉
Yep, check out the fisherman on the boat being circled…
Really worse flying skill btw 🤣
If at first you don’t succeed crash into the sea 😀. Hats off to the pilots who do it for real….
I love seeing both of the windsocks on the hills when approaching runway 10...just like in the real world! Nice flying, mate.
Thanks
It's too bad that Austin never really embraced scenery. Custom tiles for every occasion might have worked 20 years ago, but you will still need a gazillion of them before things look right. I am really disappointed with the jagged coastlines and the occasional spike on an island shore. I figure some of it is the batch processing isnt quite as advanced as MSFS's AI processing.
I believe they are currently working on a complete rewrite of the scenery engine. Not before time I’d say, looking forward to seeing the results.
Microsoft has a Billion $$$ company behind it.. Not that it invests that much but X-Plane isn't bad for less that 20 employees
Agreed.
you mean asabo has
The map enhancer is the one causing those odd elevation issues. They are not compatible.
Interesting isn’t it. If you look at the airport scenery you will notice a retaining wall at the back of the parking area. Orthophotos just folded straight over the top of it. When I removed the ortho tiles the problem went away.
Graphically still doesn't hold a candle to MSFS.
Hey Jesse glad you watched the video. Purely on the landscape I would agree, X-Plane has a way to go. Arguably, Microsoft's ability to leverage their Bing Maps content will always give them an edge. In other aspects, for example sound-scape, light and weather, I would say X-Plane has the edge at the moment. I started life as a computer programmer and trying out add-ons to improve the landscape to make it more realistic is part of the fun for me. I would say the best thing about Microsoft's return to the Flight Simulator market is the competitive environment it has created. X-Plane has improve immeasurably because of this and I would bet that MSFS users are seeing the same thing. When two great products go head to head like this, the only winners are us I reckon.
X-Plane does a great job considering there is no billion $$$ company behind it. Excellent job. What good is eye candy if the planes are crap (except 4 or 5).
How did you put the flight instruments on the screen? I really like it, I should help a lot when looking outside the airplane to keep coordinated flight!
It’s a transparent panel created using AirManager and placed on main flight screen.
Where can I get this custom scenery?
This scenery pack is pretty good: forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/files/file/42118-kosh-wittman-regional-eaa-airventure-oshkosh/ The actual scenery I have is from PilotEdge and is unfortunately only available in the run up to SimVenture because of licensing restrictions.
Nice Colin, thanks for sharing. Looks like they put on a fantastic flight sim experience.
Yep, PilotEdge seems like a really good platform if you fly in the US.
Could you send me the scenery if you don’t mind? I’ve been trying to find it but they took it off the website
I will see what can be done. In the meantime you could try this scenery: forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/files/file/42118-kosh-wittman-regional-eaa-airventure-oshkosh/
Great video Colin, very clear. Thanks a lot. Malcolm.
Thanks Malcolm
Nicely done video. I was one of the first air cadets to fly solo in a powered glider. Mates were jealous!! Is the Air Cadets livery included with this VSkyLabs aircraft?
Postscript... just noticed you said it is included 😁
Thanks. Did you learn at Linton on Ouse as well?
@@ColinParker1967 RAF Syerston
Where did you get the bottom 7 instruments strip screen from?
I use Air Manager to provide the full panel on a separate screen, then drop sections onto the recording using display sharing on OBS.
@@ColinParker1967 Thanks
