I just removed my sherpa steed after 8 years only needing it twice. One of the issues I had was with the control box an older model than yours, the thin connection pins corroded and sherpa wanted me to replace the whole box- no parts available to replace the pin so I ended up getting a wireless part on ebay. After 8 yrs it stopped working I pulled it apart to service it only to find that the electrical connections to the brushes all had turned to dust and all bearing seized. I also notice some of the bolts connecting the gear box was bit cheap, half a hex head were missing. I saw the same underwater test add. They do have good seals, must of been condensation which corroded the electricals on mine. Also check the winch rope.... After researching splicing dyneema I found that the sherpa rope was spliced incorrectly. It only had 1 foot returning in on itself and not tapered...

An isolator is a must-have. If you have power to your winch constantly, any front-end damage will result in a loose live wire, which would increase the chance of under-bonnet fires. Scintex sell a simple isolation switch that disables the winch wiring. This has the added advantage of preventing vandals from being able to damage your vehicle using your own winch. A fuse or circuit breaker is not recommended because it adds a more fragile point of failure than a physical switch. When you rerun your atrocious electrical work, it would be worthwhile to install an isolator. When you have a bit more confidence with your wiring skill , In-Cab wired winch controls (and maybe even an isolation relay) are a very useful upgrade.

You would have to set up a linkage kinda like a jackshaft. It would require a shaft to pass over to the right side with necessary pivots, or it can be done with a heavy duty cable with some serious thinking. Basically a push pull situation with a heavy enough cable. Thanks for watching! Thanks for the question.
