Variety Homestead
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 29 ธ.ค. 2023
Variety Homestead is a true depiction and description of our life here on the homestead in the last five years, and we intend to document our struggles and our successes from this point forward in a format that will be able to help people who aspire to a different life while understanding the pitfalls and victories of achieving their own goals.
We came from the city (suburbs) after many years of working towards a lifestyle that both of us had passion for, and that is to live in the country. We did not intend to do any homesteading, our goal was to live in a slower paced environment and work towards retirement, our very small slice of the American Dream.
We are believers, we love what God has provided for us in His creation and in His Son, and our intent is to encourage people to be prepared for life in this world and in eternity to come after this life has run its course, available only through saving faith in Jesus Christ.

Making Cayenne Crushed Red Pepper
Make your own crushed red pepper for pennies, it is bolder and more flavorful that what you buy in the grocery store. In this video we used Cayenne peppers, but you could likely use others or even a combination of peppers to your liking.

Smoking Beef Briskets
มุมมอง 1421 วันที่ผ่านมา
We had a bunch of family over and decided to smoke a couple of beef briskets in the smoker. Wood used was mesquite chunks and oak charcoal. The rub ingredients are as follows using 1/3 cup of each ingredient: Redman's real salt, fresh ground black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, brown sugar and 1/6 cup of paprika. Cook time was about 8.5 hours at an average temp of 250-275 degrees. Achieve...

Mid Summer Garden Tour
มุมมอง 352 หลายเดือนก่อน
Contrast this video with the previous video we did called "Spring Garden is in". This video shows how things are doing, both the good and the bad. We decided that the things that will do well will do well and those that won't will not. Weeds are a constant problem and there is no way to deal with them outside of work and it is a big chore just to try and stay even, but we try to plant enough so...

I use Kosher salt when canning. Works great, By the way I received 6 bags (of about 6-8) jalapeno yesterday. So guess what I am going to try.. Yep pickling. Thanks
Awesome! They are really good pickled.
Hehe i didnt think of the strainer it was hot and my hands hurt
be careful now!!!
😮 we have same priced mushrooms toronto
yes we looked for the cheapest mushrooms we could find. Thanks for commenting
Washing mushrooms is almost never an issue, but certainly here in these recipes it makes absolutely zero negative difference. Its just a myth people keep repeating.
When we first learned of mushroom ketchup I do remember John Townsend saying to just wipe them off, not to wash them and there was a reason for that in this case, but I just can't remember what it was
@@VarietyHomestead The supposed reason is 'they will soak up water' but they already are 90% water and since you want to extract all flavour out of the mushrooms through liquid it would actually be beneficial if they did soak up more water to extract more flavour (which they would if you would soak them, even then still only a tiny bit, but not if you simply wash them). Commercially cultivated mushrooms ARE clean generally though. The growing environment is not only good for mushrooms but for all molds so the cultivation is done very hygienically.
Yes that is spot on, thank you for reminding me
This is great. It's very similar to a deck I want to built before you get to the pool deck. The pool deck isn't big enough for a grill and all. So I'm going to do a 12x12 floating deck and later I plan to cover it. Thanks.😄
You are very welcome. That's why we do this, hopefully folks will get ideas for their own scenario, I know I did by watching videos. Be sure to follow all safety and code protocols, and have a good one!
@@VarietyHomestead Thank you so much!
I have two electric coffee mills. One for coffee and one as a spice mill.
We do, too. No one wants coffee that tastes like pepper.
Could you make a list of Ingredients
It is in the description right below the video
Blessed be God forever! Great bunch of tools you got there. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you. I developed a desire to use the old fashioned, traditional tools only a few years ago and it is quite enjoyable to learn and use them
Blessed be God forever!
Yes! It is our stated goal here to share our faith with all who want to hear and it is my hope that some will hear and believe in Jesus Christ as their Savior. Thank you for your words of praise to Him.
Can I put in ziplock bags because I don’t have the container with the drain holes.
Yes you can, you can get the 2 gallon ziplocks and you just need to flip them over every day for 5 days
Are you guys on FB?
