what about calculations for LB etc.. splicing?
Hmmm in Mississippi they don’t have licenses. The man my hubby worked under has passed away. Been in Texas for some years unable to do anything and we’ve called TDLR . I know he pass a test . They don’t want people having their own business in Texas . Too much of a monopoly for these big companies like McWilliams that hires kids .
i wish we had a great teacher like you here in phoenix az
Awww
Read the question twice but read the entire question. understand what you Read, before you go on the search. read, (every answer) then make you choice. and when it comes to tables, make sure the numbers are in the right order. Go through every question, answer as many as you know firsthand, then go back to the questionable questions, and the hard questions last. "Don't get hung up on a question" move on. you may find the answer to that question, by looking for something else.
is this excerpt from the G12 test?
Yes
here my question sir: im a registered HVAC tech for a 15 years so can I apply for contractor license? or I have to tramit like a certified tech first?
You do not have to become a certified technician first. Your 15 years of experience (as long as it was under a licensed HVAC contractor) qualifies you for testing for your own license.
The way I read 220.82(C)(3) is that if you have a heat pump with a furnace, you would use 100% of the heat pump AND (code uses word AND) 65%% of the supplemental furnace heat. In this very common residential case, it is not heat OR A/C, It is A/C heat pump at 100% PLUS furnace heat at 65% as one of the choices in (C) Am I reading this wrong? All TH-camrs seem to be sticking with heat OR A/C, not considering (C)(3).
The purpose of the video is to prepare folks that are taking the exam. The vast majority of exams don’t take into account the common real world scenario of having supplemental heat. This is the reason that I did not include that information in the video.

Awesome man very clear and helpful
Thanks for watching
Great job thank you
Glad it was helpful for you
If I was looking to become a building Inspector, should I take the 2018 or the 2021 code exam? Will it make a difference?
It depends on which code you are being tested on.
Lewis Dorothy Wilson Karen Robinson Jessica
I did like your video , great information , question when all the wire are the same type insulation lest said, I got 8 hot ant 8 neutral wires , so the with ANNEX do still have to do the DERATING POWER FACTOR ?THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.
Using Annex C has nothing to do with derating. It is simply a sizing tool. The ampacity that you are allowed to carry is based on three tables in article 310.
Why do you add 2400 on 8000+30%=10.400
Column C is only good for 12kW. When you get over 12kW you have to look at note number 1 at the bottom of the table.
What if the boss with the license don't want to sign-off you?
Contact the TDLR. Document your attempts to get him to sign, after 15 days of attempting to get him to sign-off with no results the TDLR will contact him to make him sign.
Thanks for the video! I was trying to find what I need to prepare for the exam and the information was too scattered and unclear. Now that I'm watching this, it encourages me a lot. I've only built a few houses, but have been designing and engineering them (as a hobby) for a while, yet completely detached from the verbiage used in the industry. If I can have the book with me at the exam, then that solves most of it.
Glad it has helped you!
What does it mean the service conductor ampacity 100 or greater? Can we use optional method less than 100A service conductor ampacity?
220.82(A) indicates that this optional method can only be used for 100A or greater. Less than 100 would have to use the standard method.
@constructionseminars4197 thanks a lot. How we know the 100 ampacity for service conductor?
@@opecons I guess you would have to calculate using the standard method first to determine whether the optional method could be used. I have never considered that. That seems like a pain.
I currently have an HVAC contractors license from a different state for the past 4 years, If i planned on moving to TX, how similar would the process be for me? or would it be different?
The process is the same. Experience counts regardless of what state you are coming from.
Taking an exam prep course and I’m glad I found your video bc the course makes it more complicated than it needs to be. Thanks
Glad we could break it down to a more easily understand format.
I find it very difficult to locate information in the IRC. Glazing is a perfect example. When you use the index it does not reference other areas that also give info for glazing requirements. I find this type of issue everywhere in IRC. When taking a test that only gives you 90 seconds to find the answer, the structure issues of the book make this impossible.
that's why he says you have to understand what is the context first. if you're looking for glazing in general( let's say opening requirements ) the index would send you to chapter 3 . however if glazing pops up related to energy efficiency (the context would be energy efficiency) then you would find glazing in chapter 11.
I felt the same way. It is also best to go through and just tab, tab, tab- even if purchased a tab book.
Do you have a course for ICC special inspectors
No, sorry we do not.
Where is the link to access the practice tests?
constructioncontinuinged.com/product-category/national-icc-exam/
Have to be registered as a tech then need to take a test to become a certified after 2 yrs as a certified tech you can take exam for contractors. It’s all about paying your fees every year for hrs to count
Today do you suggest 2018 or 2021 . Can you please advice
Depends on what you are being tested on. Each jurisdiction has its own testing requirements. Find out the rules where you are trying to get licensed.
@@constructionseminars4197 ok but icc g13 is based on 2018 . There is no 2021 version of the test . I don’t quite understand why
@@jesse20241 most states are behind on the codes, Florida is still using 2018
Is there a part two to this?
There are 8 parts to this series to prep you for the ICC exam. This is the one that you get for free. To see the rest, you can purchase the course at constructioncontinuinged.com/product-category/national-icc-exam/
Do you agree?
Glad i ran into your channel and this video. What should I do if the contracted I worked for is no longer active?
Any licensed contractor who holds that classification who is aware of your work and can verify the experience. Also, inspectors can verify the work as well.
good explanation i really like the way that you explain it, thank you
I think the calculation is wrong. Adding all the load for individual should be 36,100 instead of 34,600. If you multiply by 10 unit that would be a big error.
Yes, you are correct. 36,100 x 10 = 361,000. 361,000 x 43% = 155,230. 155,230/240 = 646.79 amperes. That would still require 700A service so the final answer on a test would be the same. Sorry about the mistake, looks like you are the first one to catch it. Good job. Hopefully the math concepts and steps still communicate well.
Do you have classes in Spanish ? Or just English? I’m very interested for classes in Irving
We only have classes in English. The test is in English as well as the books, so we only offer English classes.

How would mini splits be factored in ?
Take 125% of the highest rated mini-split, and 100% of the others. I assume they would include a heat pump so there would be nothing to compare it to as far as heat is concerned.
Awesome thanks 🙏
I thought it was Jonathan Banks from the thumbnail 😂
88 Toyota Supra I’m studying with mine behind me in the garage
Confused, why would I not use the a/c motor which uses 28 amps as largest motor?no disrespect meant, learning a lot Thanks!!!
In the example at 20 minutes, I am using one of the A/C units as my largest motor. It is calculated at 125% and the other 9 units at 100%. This is compared to the 100% of the heat. The heat was larger, so we tossed out the air conditioners.
Cut and Dried teaching.... love it!!! thank you!
where can i find a study guide for testing on G13 .I have the IRC 2018 book i just need a study guide with questions that will be on exam
Our complete test prep course can be found at constructioncontinuinged.com/product/icc-g12-test-preparation/ That course has questions and answers we have been seeing on the exam. We do not offer a separate book.
In Virginia can I use the IRC 2018?
It looks like in VA you use the 2015 Uniform Statewide Building Code.
Here is the candidate information bulletin www.dpor.virginia.gov/sites/default/files/boards/Contractors/CIB_PSI_Contr_BusDE.pdf

Great Video studying for the 2018 irc right now and this helps alot
Great teacher really broke it down so you can understand it I also like how he refused everything back to the code book will be on the look for more videos man you are very helpful
code states that dryers are at 5kw (220.54) 2020, I see you used 4kw, I'm just trying to see if it was a typo or is 4kw correct?
4kw is correct because we are using the optional method. One of the most common errors in calculating using the optional method is using rules from the standard method. The 5kw rule is used only when calculating the standard method.
oh man thanks! currently watching this video now, very helpful! @@constructionseminars4197
also, i have my exam coming up soon, how will i know if the optional method would be sufficient for an answer instead of the standard method? im going for SFD.@@constructionseminars4197

430.24 is for sizing feeder conductors to several motors at once. I am not sure how that applies to this calculation.
