A drive on the old section of A3 at Hindhead the morning of the tunnel opening. This section of road will be closed for good in a few days time.

A drive on the old A3 at Hindhead the evening before the tunnel opened and a few days before this section of road is closed forever.
Punching Devils Bowl
I can remember the drive through Corbridge before it was by passed. The A68 used to pass close to the historic village centre and cross an 18th century bridge over the Tyne. Traffic was bad even in the seventies, but it was a nicer drive than the by pass to the east.
2 way traffic in one of those tunnels , get fucking real , that'll never happen , too many do gooders in this country will stop that
Thanks for doing this video, been down that road many times
What a wanker on the motorbike
Nice video -- had a walk around the punchbowl yesterday. There is nothing left of the old road :(
Upkeep the old Road! You must be mad. I just wish more roads were abandoned. Imagine if the M25 were to suffer the same fate? Peace and quite restored to the south east.
Very good video.
I won't miss the lights, but I will miss the scenic drive round the Punchbowl and nearly being on 2 wheels coming out of that first left handed bend :)
Good point :).
Remember that there are two tunnel bores, and if one closes then the other can be used for two way traffic.
I think it should have been kept as a secondary road in case of emergencies. It is also rather sad now to think of those that have lost their lives on this road in the past. Perhaps they never died in vain though as their deaths may have helped push this tunnel a little further to reality.
@sparkygl0s I think it's all been dug up. Bit stupid really. Just think, if there is an emergency in the tunnel, they could've used the old road as a detour. But no, they have no common sense. Rant over :)
Goodbye Hindhead traffic lights... you won't be missed!
