How to Grade Roads and Lots for Construction Plans
มุมมอง 3.2Kหลายเดือนก่อน
In this video you will learn how to grade a road, culdesac, and lot in a residential land development project. Throughout the video, there will be pictures and videos to help draw the connection between real life and construction plans. Below are the list of constraints: What is the minimum low point the road can be? - In our example: Minimum EOP = DHW25 0.5’; Crown = DHW25 0.74’ What is the mi...

Currently watching this on my third year of community college still doing pre reqs. I am currently a bit worried and stressed on how ima do it the following fall semester at UTA. I was a bit worried that I was going to have to take 5-6 years to complete my civil engineering degree but I am kinda feeling better once he said the degree takes longer than most. Can’t wait to be able to do this once I get my career up and running.
Should not average Tc. There is only one “most” distant point. Calculate both and use the longest if you are not sure
Correct. At 22:55, I mention if there are multiple flow paths then it should be averaged. According to the TR-55, you actually want to use the longest point. However, the “longest” point may also be the path that has the roughest travel characteristics. Thanks for pointing out the correction.
I really like this series! I’m looking forward to your next grading video 😊

Hello Griffin 👋 I was wondering if it's possible to share your email, I want your guidance and advice about my civil engineering career, I'll be really appreciated if you can help me out. Thanks alot
Great learn. Thanks!
Interesting video. I do everything with feature line in C3D. Excellent point on road C/L elev. equalling the elev. at start of P/L.
There is no way the exam could be so straightforward.
I am junior civil designer to land development, I do more individual property grading and servicing plan, your video is really helpful for me to go next step. I want to learn more municipal site grading design , watched all your tutorials youtube, love it❤
What university degree?
i only take civil engineering program, so try to learn more…
Inspiring
Could you share on your website the same example in dwg? Besides, could you do a video explaining how to analyze and delineate watershed for stormwater calculation, setting up the type of inlets, even doing a size pipe analisis.
Hi Griffin, amazing explanation about grading and having an account the stormwater analisis as starting point to grade the roadway.
Good thing somebody did. Most of the things in your video were brought about by people who did. People who's minds were not constrained by the arrogance of their limited view.😮
It was the most mediocre video I’ve seen on TH-cam
Really good video! The explanation on grading roads and lots is clear and practical, making it easy to follow for anyone working on construction plans. The step-by-step breakdown and visuals are super helpful-definitely learned a lot. Thanks for sharing this valuable content!

Hi Griffing, I'm just following the calcs on this video and I didn't get the same result for shallow concentrated flow, I got 3.4min vs your 12min=0.2hrs, so tyhe total Tc=44+3.4=47.4min
@@davidsantanachong7117 a few questions: 1) are you using the same manning’s n? 2) are you using slope in ft/ft?
@@griffinfurlong yes, I'm using the same numbers like you, I just typed the same numbers as you shown in the video
I got even the same result as you for Sheet flow
Thank you for your video, it really helped me understand better the pathway to become a civil engineer. I Had a question though. You said that by taking calculus 2 in college you did a year to graduate? The question is in general, which math level should I be in in order to do CE in college. Thank you again!!!!
@@RitaIgwabi I’m glad I could help. You’ll most likely be starting out in calculus 2, but I would say in general the best math to have under your belt is algebra and trig. I started with Calculus 2 in college because I passed AP Calc AB and BC in highschool
love the information.

Oh boy. The multiple hurricanes here in central east coast FL have revealed severe grading issues causing excessive flooding on my residential property which is on the 18th fairway of a private golf course. I’m talking 3 feet of water. Right up to the house for the very first time since it was built in 2004. At issue is an undeveloped parcel next to mine belonging to the Golf Club, with it’s collapsed 35 year old underground 14” galvanized spiral drain pipe connecting my yard’s drain basin and the 300 feet of 14” poly spiral pipe I installed two years ago because the old pipe had collapsed like a sinkhole from leaking water underground into the sandy soil. The flood just before Hurricane Milton last week was so sudden and determined that it got into three neighbor’s homes, and 4” from my own doors. I may have to cap off the drain basin at ground level to keep the thousands of gallons of rainwater going down the basin, into my 14” underground drain pipe, and then dead-heading into the Golf Club’s property with it’s collapsed drain that is 6’ beyond my property line and about 30 feet from my house. A fully mature tree was unroofed there last week because the soil is like quicksand.
