The movie turns 40! Made $100 million even though the author has dismissed it It was actually the most expensive German production at the time even though it was released in American cinemas The actor who played Atreyu was only 13 and he had to go through so much on the production with less restriction by the SAG laws I gotta say holy! Director Wolfgang Peterson truly made one of the best family fantasies ever based on the children’s book of the same name by Michael Ende It contains great atmosphere, creative characters, a complex story to go with, and some real legitimate drama being very weighty I remember watching it back in 2010 this movie took a different turn than I anticipated I thought it was just going to be a typical fantasy adventure it's so surreal; the reader actually goes on his own adventure while reading the story It captures Bastian’s heartache and confusion but also Atreyu’s turmoil and so in a sense their journeys are more intwined than they realize It’s very mature for kids and nuanced for adults saying that despair/depression can even destroy a world created by human imagination, hopes, and dreams this is a very magical movie and a great family flick granted there's alot of moments where its just downright depressing Bastian does end up coming across as kind of a wimp and really annoying ‘Neverending Story' however, has a great message for children about the darker parts of growing up learning to find the light of hope I think my fav characters had to be The Rock-Biter, the Luckdragon and the Empress even though she only had 5 min of screentime you will fall in love with the enchantment of this world and the creatures and the special effects another great classic of a film

the first movie EVER I saw in cinema when I was 8 years old. It was an experience that stayed with me. I remember how sad I was when I couldnt see it again. And how long the wait was until it finally came again on TV. And how long the time was until it came again on TV and you had a VHS system to finallly record it.

Surely these different versions were made by the same technical people?

Great video! Ende's book has so many adventures that The NeverEnding Story could tell ", but that's a story for another time." I'm reading the book now, because I read that they are coming out with The NeverEnding Story series. Not sure how far into the future it will be.

I loved the Book, too. People don't realize, but the movie was only about Part I. They left out Part II of the Book, which is a lot darker, about growing up.

I don't get these masks. Was the idea behind them connected to the fact that it was described as the "floating city" in the book, so they decided to make a reference to Venice?? Also, it was a normal city with shopkeepers, inns and people performing normal daily activities. This looks like he arrived in a middle of some strange religious festival😂

The soundtrack in the german version is far more menacing, its darker

I've always had a fantasy of what would happen if the nothing came into real world and caused a huge earthquake in Los Angeles I always had a vision of that believe it or not where you would see buildings crumbling the ground sinking cars truck smashing into each other I always thought about that it would be the NeverEnding Story crosses over with 2012 it would be like a fusion of that I guess if you really thought about it if it did actually cross over into our world wild thoughts
