There is no evidence of these high numbers, the mayor of London assembly official page ‘quotes’ IMPERIAL COLLAGE LONDON, globally renowned experts in air quality research, have looked at the health burden of air pollution in London. Their research found in 2019, toxic air contributed to the premature deaths of around 4000 London. THIS INCLUDES DEATHS FROM ALL CAUSES, INCLUDING RESPIRATORY, LUNG CANCER AND CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES. If you read this a few times, it claims imperial collage have looked at, not studied the air quality around London. It’s not actually 4000 deaths cause by dirty air but ‘other factors’. It doesn’t state or have any sort of percentage of other factors that were contributed by smoking due to lung cancer. There was a case, in which a company's fleat has racked 11000 in fines because of ulez. The company took them to court and won because on the signs for ulez, it mentions that there is a ulez zone but doesn't mention that anything has to be paid. Since the company won, there is a precedent so all you'd have to do is point that out and go home. I'm pretty sure it's a bit more involved but that's the idea. Also, since no one agrees to this charge, nobody should pay it and it will be removed. It's atrocious.

Two completely different cars. I bought a 89 MX5 Miata in 1996 for $9000 CAN. It was a great basic sports car with power nothing. Loved it, drove it all year until in 2007 my mechanic said not to put another penny into it. Terminal rust. An incredible amount of salt used here in Toronto in the winter. I found a 2003 SLK320 with a 6 speed off lease and traded in the old Miata. I also retired, so it is in storage during the winter, when I am down south. I have now had it for 17 years. It is a little more peppier than the 230. The naturally aspirated V6 has a much wider torque band. Although I like the shifter, feel that the Miata was lighter and faster. It was a 5 rather than 6 speed. I did a road trip across Canada a few years ago and put 14,000 kilometres on it that summer. As I am pushing 80 I appreciate a slightly larger car that I can still get in and out of. Speaking of old British sports cars, I had a 1962 Austin Healey Sprite in university. It was fun and even much smaller. It was the first year with roll up windows rather than side curtains. It still had the Meccano Set roof with the frame in the trunk/boot and the roof rolled up behind the seat.

I had a 01 Miata SE 6 speed then a ‘99 SLK230 and I traded it last year for a ‘04 ML350 but the same guy was selling a ‘98 SLK230 last week and I snatched it up pretty cheap since it needed work. $1500 for a running and driving one that just needs some interior work and tires

Rear arch rust, rubbers all crumbling, then finally roof front hydraulic strut gave up and dumped fluid all over headlining. Fun but no is my experience.

The SLK 230, is not the car the BMW or MX5 are, BUT, it is far more livable than the others, MX5, is great little car but to go on a road trip? SLK wins out!

They cause dreadful interference with the vehicles radio and CB if you have one. They are cheap for a reason..

Another big part of your survivability will be the age and build of the OTHER car! I'm guessing that it was most likely a newer car than yours and with greater safety designs (it's a well over 20 years old Porsche 911 and safety requirements were SHITE back then!) better crumple zones etc that will be much less likely to destroy what it hits. I'd also way that the majority of frontal impacts you are much SAFER in a front engined car. Yes you can end up with the engine entering the passenger compartment but you also will have a LOT more metal out front to protect you! Front engined cars are safest.

If you'd been in the TVR, MX5 etc things could have been VERY different! That's the only thing about driving old cars, luckily this isn't 'proper old'!

SLK over the MX5 any day. It doesn't handle as well or have quite the 2 seater sports feel of the MX5. However it is way more powerful, more refined, far more solid and the roof is a work of art. It is the most practical out of the two as a daily driver.

You low-key told us you’ve let the oil get too dirty. You changed it but didn’t say anything right? This is a classic extended oil change interval problem. Many cars are very sensitive to oil cleanliness when it comes to these cam phaser solenoids. If you don’t pull the solenoids to check and clean them, then at least change the oil and filter. The detergent additive package in the new oil will help free up the solenoids if they’re gummed up.

Whilst it is true that air quality may be one factor in aggravating certain health conditions, it is unfortunate that everything is then simplified to ULEZ being the answer.

The cost of relatively mundane classic cars is one of the major factors that should encourage the young to get into them, for these reasons, No MOT, No road tax, Cheap Classic car insurance, easy to fix with out computers or electronics!

That study is totally spurious and has no validity what so ever! On a FIO to the highest of authorities on that subject only one child has died in over 20+ years due to the air quality in London, She was also suffering from severe asthma and had a bad bout at the time! ULEZ is just a scam & a money making scam, when it could all be done via the MOT.

The number of people that died due to bad air in london was brought up in the house of commons and it was ONE, slightly less than 9500!

I worked in South East Asia in the mid 80's, and bought a CRX there in '86. Bowled over by the looks, I bought it brand new at the dealer, without test driving it. Too much money, not enough exercising of the brain. A couple of years prior, I'd rented for 10 days one of the first Peugeot 205 GTI's to come into the UK, and loved it. The comparison with the CRX was like chalk and cheese. The 205 was light, airy and spacey inside. The CRX felt like sitting low down in a dark tomb. The 205 engine had grunt from low down all the way through the gears. The CRX only really performed when it was revved out. The 205 had lovely pliable suspension, the combination of good handling and suppleness. The CRX was tolerable only on billiard table smooth roads. I kept the CRX for only a few months, and got rid of it without a shred of regret.

So. I thought MOTs were necessary to prove a vehicles roadworthiness -then how come classic cars are exempt? We have right to travel freely across the land. Don't pay the charge. No contract- no case to answer to.

Why do all you people keep trying to argue that Led's are legal on headlights when they're not? All these so called experts, lawyers, automotive people, car manufactures, and even cops all say LED's are legal when they're not. Whether they're aftermarket, or manufactured installed, LED's ARE NOT legal to be on any automotive headlight in any of the 50 states in the USA. What I have written below, is the only thing that matters and the only thing to argue. The only place in the law that determines what is legal on a headlight comes from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) They produce the FMVSS (Federal motor Vehicle Safety Standards) section 108 of the FMVSS has not bee updated to include LED's and until it does, then LED's are illegal on vehicles headlights in all 50 states. There is no policy and or statute in any county, city, state, town..lawyer, judge, cop, manufacture, mechanic..etc that can over ride the NHTSA FMVSS. Until the NHTSA says LED's are legal on vehicles, then LED's are not legal on vehicles. People need to start paying attention to what Governs the laws instead of this I'm a lawyer or automotive manufacture line of bullshit.

Thanks for this great video!! I have had a similar issue with my 996 4S. Also changed spark plugs and ignition coils. At first that did the trick, but if came back, but mostly after the car has not been used for a while, or using it just pottering about town. Driving it hard for a couple of hours just seems to solve it.
