This is the first game I ever modded, Made my own cars, changed tracks by adding routes and secret passages (took me ages), even set the weight of every single traffic vehicle to 1kg so they would fly in the sky as I hit them xD
This was one of the first games I discovered mods for. I added so many cars to it and it never missed a beat. Underground II is probably the best NFS overall, but this was absolutely the best of the 'traditional' NFS games. The intro video still makes the hairs stand up.
I downloaded this like a week ago but most of the maps and cars r blocked (most if them say bonus cars/pursuit) why is that? Do i need to complete career mode? or?
Yes (if memory serves right), as you progress in career mode, you unlock the cars/tracks. I am guessing there are other ways of unlocking them (e.g., cheat code).
This game was a big part of my childhood. Me and my bothers would play this on the PS1 for hours. sometimes all day. This and twisted metal. It's so cool to see the PC version with widescreen, i think the PC version had a few more cars and tracks that the console version didn't have. i don't remember this track at all.
ahh. will never forget the growl of that 911 turbo with the music "rock this place" playing in the background. everything in this video is nostalgic to this game as i remember it

I was recently trying to install this game again on my Windows 10 PC, but whenever I run the game, I get an error message saying: Exception caught! EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION: read attempted @0x00000001 CS=00000023 DS=0000002B ES=0000002B FS=00000053 GS=0000002B EDI=007DFD0C ESI=001AA79B EAX=00000001 EBX=00438548 ECX=BD2A18CB EDX=00000000 Eip=00114CCA Ebp=007DFD0C Esp=007DFD18 SS=0000002B I don't know what this is, but it only seems to be effecting this game from what I've tested so far.
Do you know what's funny? That this game, along with all other games from that time, runs in Linux better than it does in Windows. :D Not to mention that Windows 7/8/10/11 won't run 16-bit games, such as Twisted Metal 2, whereas Linux runs them just fine. :D
Most people: video games are a waste of time that rot your brain My brain while playing this game back in the day and today: pure happiness buzzing noises, reduced stress levels and a calm mindset.
I can understand that people who are used to the graphics of the latest games may wonder what's so special about High Stakes. And I could agree with them, having been exposed to high fidelity graphics myself for over a decade now. On the other hand when High Stakes came out, back then this was really high end. It was an indescribable feeling for it's time.
The PS dual shock had joysticks and rumbled too. It was another commonplace thing today that was a flat out miracle at the time. Such a great game, I spent lots of time on it.

In nfs3 its same maps. Other routes . I wish they made one remake with all these tracks and citys in 1 open world .. i would be a child again
All of the tracks from NFS 3 was reused for High Stakes PC.

Yeah the PC version had more content it has all the tracks from NFS 3 HP, more cars, better damage model, and actual 3d car interiors.
