I use a cheap personal sized bath tub from amazon ($56) and throw in some frozen bottles of water a few hours before getting in. The first 6-7 dunks were pure torture but once you learn to accept the cold instead of fighting it, it's not so bad. It's a mind game Link to the tub: www.amazon.com/Youdepot-Inflatable-Portable-Plastic-Bathroom/dp/B07PH1JRJX/ref=psdc_6807258011_t4_B0823QL9ZZ

I've got an old board from customX that they dont make anymore, it's a 42" crescent tail with a polyprop core I'd recommend a Science board if you're looking for high-end, customX or hubboards for a solid board on a budget

late 60’s early 70’s at 11th st H.B we caught some major southwest swells. we used duckfeet and our chests, hands tucked catching outside monsters that broke 3 times putting us on the sand, what a rush. sometimes going over the falls, getting buried, just relaxing. i still have dreams.

sounds like so much fun. HB is fun, the waves break a lot slower so it's hard to keep up with them without getting swallowed by the whitewater but the longer rides sure make up for it when you pick off a good one. those shorebreaks are always a blast, whole wetsuit full of sand after a few good smashers ahh i love it

As an additional point - you could also get your palm in contact with the water to create a planing surface - which will act in the same way as a handboard. @@Tonystarkes888 sweeet thanks for the tips! I talked to a guy at the surf shop and he was saying the stiffness of vipers make your feet blister until you develop a callus. ROUGH. some of my longer bodyboard sessions (3 hours+) with churchills made my feet blister too and then I cant use fins for a week!! Ill have to try vipers when I get a chance for both bodyboarding and bodysurfing, but I love my churchills for bodyboarding, I recently learned to do dropknee and the slanted design is essential for that. also, dafins are garbage for bodyboarding, they arent symmetrical so the downkick is really tough and the upkick is too easy. the vertical wings on top of the fins makes it hard to get the fins under water far enough to generate speed

Newport Beach CA best definition of rip curl I've ever seen. Read the waves and go under until you pass the beach break If you do not read the cycles of waves you will wipe out/get disorientated . Read the rythm of the waves/cycles or you are in serious trouble. . Something you do not want to do. Feels like you got hit in the head by a brick wall. while under water. Get used to it. . Ride it in. Trunks no wetsuit. Ride it bareback to the shore. Religious experience. Tell the lifeguards to suck it because they see you out too far. Wetsuit/summer suit for whimps. Give surfboarders their own respect. No fins, cheaters. Use your own feet. You. Your trunks. The ocean. Deal. If you know dead man's float you can stay allllll day beyond the surf and enjoy your very own spiritual experience.
