These overly produced overly professional shows are so boring, Tommy boyd had it right when he opened up the phone lines for anyone to come on
I hate when people dismiss Psycho III. It's my personal favorite. Anthony Perkins did an amazing job creating atmosphere and dark humor. He also has taken the character of Norman into a completely full arc of being so sympathetic that the real fear in Psycho III is that he will be caught. We are now at a point of rooting for the character, which is a strange thing. His performance in the sequels is amazing. Psycho IV is my least favorite because it not only dismisses the sequels before but contradicts many of the story points of the original, such as Norman's age, when his father dies; age 5 in Psycho, age 6 in Psycho IV, Also in Psycho IV, the motel was always there, he mentioned his father had drilled the hole in the wall of the parlor but in the original, Norman told Marion, the mother's boyfriend talked her into building the motel. It's like Joseph Stefano didn't remember what he wrote in Psycho before concocting this mess of a script for Psycho IV. The biggest issue of course, is that Norman is released yet again, after only 4 years of having killed several people, as there is a brief mention of the events of the sequels and he is now married to his therapist. That is just ridiculous in itself.
I agree, Psycho III is interesting because Perkins directed it. (I think I've only seen it once, years ago, so I should really watch it again.) And I also agree with your comments on the flaws of Psycho IV; the contradictions annoy me too. (Psycho II is also guilty of that.) I suppose I'm just not really interested in Psycho as a franchise, only in the first film.
@@mhuntuk I don't recall Psycho II contradicting anything in the original. I do understand people being upset with the twist that Norman's mother was not his real mother in the original but rather his aunt but, Psycho III put that right with it's own twist that Norma Bates was his real mother and that Emma Spool was his aunt but she was crazy and actually killed Norman's father and kidnapped Norman when he was a child because she felt Norman should have been hers. So the psychosis clearly ran in the Spool side of Norman's family which also would have validated Norman's belief in Psycho IV that his condition was genetic in nature.

I haven’t seen any film cartridges still for sale, otherwise I’d buy one and try it. But I’m sure the picture quality would be very similar to a standard 8mm cine camera of the period (for example, ummm… the Zapruder film haha).

Damn, I'd be disappointed to discover the theatrical poster for Van Zant's 1998 film isn't included. Say what you will about the film (everybody has), but the image of the figure behind the shower curtain was beautifully haunting. It's so maddening that, to my knowledge, there's never been a US release that this classic film and its series truly deserves. Thank you for sharing the packaging and all of the features this set has. It's absolutely beautiful.

From Amazon Germany. But now the uncensored version is available on regular blu-ray in the US and UK (60th anniversary editions).
Hello! Great review of this set. I just happened to find one and ordered it. I have a question. The uncensored version of psycho, is it also region free like the rest of this set? Or is that disc region B only? Thank you!! Joe
Hi Joe, and thanks. The uncensored Psycho disc is region-free. (You might also like to know that the 60th anniversary edition, due for release later this year, is also region-free and also contains [for the first time since the German box set] the uncensored version.)
Matthew Hunt ok great. Yes I saw that release up for preorder from everything blu, with all the extras but it unfortunately sold out already. Hopefully I can grab one on eBay at some point.thank you!
