Make A Fishing Lure From Scratch.. How To
Hey Folks! I go into depth a lil bit about lure design and how to create your own soft plastics, from scratch! I'm no professional but I demonstrate what I've learned so far. Making baits isn't for everyone. You could easily go buy some baits and or use live. But the customizing colors and pure satisfaction of catching a fish on your own lure is indescribable. Plenty of information on TH-cam to get started. Thanks for watching!! Now go catch some fish!

Thanks for watching!! I think this is everything,
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Corrugated plastic board
Exacto knife
Super glue
SmoothOn MoldMaxNV29 silicone
Or any 2 part, craft store silicone like Alumilte will work.
Lureworks plastisol,colorant,flake
Dedicated Microwave
Ames Temperature gun
Stir sticks for silicone
Pyrex measuring cups
Butter knives for stirring plastic
Most expensive is the silicone and plastisol color and flake. There is options for silicone on Amazon also. Good luck!

What size hook is best?
@@lroberts2478 1/0 live bait hook
ok, at first i like the idea but later, the initial investment is too big, the Mold Max™ 29Nv is $150 plus shipping and the POURASOL for lures is $34.50 so we are talking about $185 to start, so with that money i can buy 26 packs of nlbn lures, so basic you are paying $150 for the nlbm lure, so i am not sure now
@usermiamiusa hey I never said it was cost effective. I like the ability to make custom colors they don't always have. You can also use a less expensive silicone, Alumilte is 30$. If you don't have time or don't want to spend the money, simply go buy packs of baits. Have a great day, thanks for watching.
I ain't going for it man
“You want that one right there!”😅
After adding the colors and glitter for the pearl white. Did you have to heat up back to temp or just immediately pour right after mixing?
Awesome. I did this with same red alumilite rubber mold and the nlbn. The inside of the cavities never cured. Tried twice. Lol Is it because I didn’t use the clear coat spray?
@enrique-uz8qx man, I can't say why it hasn't worked. I didn't clear coat the nlbn just the clay master's. Hope you can come up with a solution, that is for watching!
@ I ended up using plaster of Paris and it came out perfect. Everything up to the NLBN logo came out on the cast. Now I’m gonna get to the fun part and start pouting plastics. I wonder why my alumilite didn’t cure with them. Perhaps some kind of reaction with the plastic because I see you used a different rubber with yours on your other video. Anyway. Thanks for all your help.
@enrique-uz8qx the SmoothOn product is better, IMO. But it's a investment. Now you can start pouring at least. Make some baits and go catch some fish!!
@ what is the product that you used from smooth on?
@enrique-uz8qx called MoldMaxNV
How did you cook it?? That looks good
@lanabandzy9102 Blackened Redfish Magic seasoning, it depends on where you catch them,, grass pins good,, mud pins bad
Im trying this exact method, but when I pull the lures out of the mold they are super jelly and soft and can just pull right apart. Im even making sure the plastisol is 350. Do u have any solutions?
@andrewweaver4814 if you don't mix the plastisol well before use, it will settle and have had baits come out squishy. Bait plastics from Amazon works, Lureworks also is good. Be sure it's mixed well, is all I can think. Or maybe a bad batch of plastisol. Thanks for watching!!
Love the content!

We’re do you get the Silicone to make the mold
@ddpgaming2684 i order online(linked in description)but started with craft store silicone(hobby lobby, Michaels). It was cheaper to buy in bulk, but it's the most expensive part of the process. Thanks for watching!
@@fishinnj ok
what's the cost efficiency of the silicone vs market value? I've started making my own lures, and im realizing we've been getting ripped off for too long. Thanks for your time, cheers from Ontario.
@mochachinolatte4397 it takes the initial investment. Once you get going, you can definitely save $. You can also go overboard, tho.Aluminum molds are costly, but you'll get more ROI the more you use em. I can get around 300 baits from 1 gallon of plastisol, depending on size. So if they're $ 1 each at the store, that's a lot of moolah. Thanks for watching!!
@@fishinnj thanks for the info. cheers from Ontario

@ThePoppinTarget thanks bro, your pretty awesome too!!
Dude, I cannot for the life of me get the NLBNS to stick. I used clear gorilla glue.
@HENDRIXKX Hmm... any super glue should work, I used cheap Harbor Freight glue. That's odd the GG wouldn't stick. Did it stick to the bait and not the base, cause you may need a different base or a different glue. Idk let me know what you find out. Thanks for watching!!

What does nlbn stand for
@jimmynewell5815 It stands for 'No Live Bait Needed' bait company. They make good lures. And I like catching on lures but it ain't always what they want so I generally like live bait a little bit more lol. Thanks for watching!!
What? I like pin fish. You did something wrong bro. Try again. Maybe smaller one. Good to me dude. Tastes kinda like fluke to me. A little fishier though. Good on ya for trying it though. Lol
This is awesome. What products did you use for mold and soft plastic?
@enrique-uz8qx I used Mold Max silicone and lureworks plastic. Links in the description Thanks for watching!!
@@fishinnjyou’re welcome and thank you. I just did my first mold. Used alumilite rubber. The inner part of the mold (where you would pour plastisol) is still wet and not setting after a whole day. Do you think it was because my nlbn lures were oily?
@enrique-uz8qx It's hard to say why that is happening. It could be the oils on the baits, but I've once had experience with bad silicone that never fully cured. Sounds like a reaction between the baits and silicone tho,, the edges of the silicone are cured just around the cavity isn't. If you try again clean the baits with warm soapy water and dry before molding. Thanks and good luck!
@ thank you. I think it was the baits or also that I demolded right after 40 minutes or so. Lol Gonna let it sit to see if it dries if not I got another kit. Will wash and dry baits and definitely let it sit til next day to remold. Thanks for your help.
@@fishinnjwell finally got a good mold out of player of Paris. 2 attempts so far and both times I’ve gotten air bubbles only in the thin part towards tail. I give up! Lol
I got into making my own baits largely because NLBN’s limited release color cash grabs pissed me off lol. Now we can make whatever color we want and the whole family enjoys it. Plus, it’s super rewarding to catch fish on baits you’ve made yourself.
@adamw5360 yes sir! It's a great feeling for sure! And the customization is endless! Thanks for watching!
It’s sad the way some of these tackle providers try to drain their own customers.
@@adamw5360 what did you use as your mold making product if you don’t mind me asking? I’ve used alumilite mold maker 2 times already and the product is trash. The lure cavities will not dry
cash grab? they dont make practical colors limited edition lmao, just dont buy them. Theyre mainly collectables
I also commented that on the nlbn Facebook and someone from the company snapped at me with some bs "this is our business model". All I said was the limited release was getting old.
Hay y'all! I caught some fish on the homemade replica baits. Hope you have a great day! Thanks for watching!!

@MemeTastic. Hey, I haven't been down there in a while. I know the 'rod and reel pier' can be productive. Thanks for watching!

Interesting, should I use these over fiddler crabs?
@PondHoppinHooligan I usually go with both, some days they want crabs, some days the barnacles.
