North Florida Wednesday 09-18-2024 mid morning recap: Back in traditional heads up drone fashion we review a fun morning surf at the famous Jacksonville beach pier. We’ve had a marathon of swell activity here in North Florida. As swell from old tropical systems dissipate, swell from new developing systems were moving through with favorable winds, among them there was a very long period sneaker swell mixed in naturally enhancing wave height and length sending a clean chest high combo swell to most exposed surf spots along the entire East Coast.

Saturday, April - 6th: Single Fin Showdown recap. For this episode we head down to Stuart Florida where Ohana Surf Shop was hosting their annual Single Fin Showdown. This contest was inspired by a tragic event that shook the community and left a good friend paralyzed. All proceeds go to helping her and others who have sustained similar injuries get back on their feet.

Watch out for the backwash bandit he will take the wave right out from underneath you. Recap from Jacksonville beach pier, last week of February. Most surfers in these shots pare unknown to me so if you see someone in a clip you know tell them where you saw it.

You cover some ground! I know where you are at. But ill pass on saying. Great footage! I was up in Tybee Island Ga a week or so ago when that 2 foot long period arived from the tropical system. Got there a little late, wind on it but was fun and neat to be up the coast looking down. Was in va beach a week before that. Surfed Sandbridge pier. Water was cold weather was crappy. Like being back into a winter feel. Now im back in Tampa Bay where the water is in the 90° range. Found 1.5' bathtub slop to slide on today then its back to Mo Flatness.
I watch these tropical systems religiously. Tampa Bay Area definitely has a bunch of spots when it turns on. just keep your fingers crossed the storm your chasing doesn’t take a hard right straight for you!
@@headsupdrone1751 I know you must! 🤙 We always are really fortunate in TB. They always cut across early south of us or head for the panhandle. The Loop Current that enters the gulf from the caribbean through the yucatan channel i believe steers them off right. The loop current also swings swell blowing from a southsouteast wind blowing in the channel and bend swell into our coast. Some of our best swell is in the winter when low pressures dip through the planes down through texas where the winds blow westerly directly across the Gulf. Our swell periods can hit 11-12 seconds. Ive seen 13 before. Our jagged points swing swell all over the place and sure helps with wind protection. Heres a shot from Siesta Key where it sticks out and faces south. I mean this was a fun swell but we got winter swells that were way cleaner and bigger and let’s not forget the 2 weeks in September of strait 6-8 foot long period swells we got from the storm that just ran up the Gulf Stream still was a nice treat to get in may though
Hurricane season is here let’s just hope for one to in the gulf, cause no damage and send us waves for weeks!

For May It's pretty darn good! Looks like another big northeast fetch is setting up again. This just does not happen normally in May. By now usually the whole eastcoast of America is shut down from north Atlantic storms and its flat to 1-3 feet southeastern Bermuda High trade winds waves, till some tropical action happens which used to not be until late summer into the fall.
I agree completely ! But honestly it does get better than that .on occasion it gets 4 ft and glassy .but it usually is a combination of half the time it's flat and the other half it's 2-3 ft .all this has to due with wat break your at .New Smyrna Beach and Sebastián Inlet are the two best breaks in the entire state .these a few others that close to those but that's the sad truth when it comes to 🏄♀️the Sunshine States coastline of the Atlantic Ocean

Steep south swell. Breaks better in Jax than down south on these days. It'll be completely flat but I'm Duval there's these perfect lines reeling down the beach.
For sure, Bahamas shadow blocks a lot of the state from south swells but funnels right up here into the armpit!

Nice video .such clear water and glassy surf .noticed the 2 sharks gliding through the water around just past the halfway section of the video .that's so crazy how florida has turned into shark bite capital of the 🌎 around 2000 give or take a few years . I saw clips on the national news where they would have helicopters flying real low along the shoreline in New Smyrna Beach and you could see thousands of sharks swarming all around the shallows just waist deep wading in from the beach and surfers were jumping over sharks to get out to the break zone .crazylike had no fear whatsoever .I grew up in Florida and surfed New Smyrna Beach Inlet .Cocoa Beach and Sebastián Inlet practically every day in the late 70s and early 80s and it wasn't like that at all .every now and then you would see a shark now and then but saw more dolphins than sharks and were very few shark attacks
We determined the fish in the video was most likely tarpon fish around 6ft although it is hard to say 100% what they are. It is however about a 50/50 chance I see a shark while flying, keeping in mind the water isn’t always clear in Jax so there are more than we see out there for sure.
