"What a friend we have in Jesus"-CBC Hymn Singalong with church congregation
Here's another recording of a traditional hymn recording with the entire church congregation in 1995. The words that really stand out for me are in the opening verse, "O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer!" That's exactly what happens to me when I forget to hand over my problems to Jesus while trying to solve them with my own strength & wisdom. Christ is not only our Lord, he's also our very best friend. He Himself said to His followers, "I no longer call you servants, for a servant doesn't know what his master is doing; but I call you friends." John 15:15 Let's talk to our Best Friend more often "casting all our cares upon Him, for He careth for you." 1 Peter 5:7
What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins & griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we beart,
All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer!
Have we trials & temptations? Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged - take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a Friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness - take it to the Lord in prayer.
Are we weak & heavy laden, cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge - take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee? Take it to the Lord in prayer,
In His arms He'll take & shield thee - thou wilt find a solace there.

"LET THERE BE LOVE!" - relevant prayer sung by the CBC Hymn Sing Choir
มุมมอง 10421 วันที่ผ่านมา
Although this prayer hymn is meant for the Springtime, I feel that it's theme of gratefulness is especially relevant to the Thanksgiving season as well. It must be a new composition too because I couldn't find any record of it anywhere. The prayer asks for the very things that are so lacking in our world today. Let there be truth, let there be light; Let there be faith to help us through the da...

This is another version of The Lord's Prayer that Katherine Davis has adapted to the French composer Gabriel Faure's sacred music (from his Requiem, I believe). Davis's paraphrased version is very moving too. This beautiful outdoor recording is from 1986. Our Father in heaven, before Thee we come, lowly kneeling. Wilt Thou open our eyes, all Thy mercy and love revealing. If we have wandered far...

This hymn is an anthem for a Christian group in London who looked after the needs of disadvantaged children. The beautiful setting for this video is Balsam Bay on Manitoba's Lake Winnipeg. The lyrics express their gratitude for Christ's redeeming love & a promise to reflect that love & joy toward those around them. Lord Jesus, of You I will sing as I journey. I'll tell all my friends about You ...

I couldn't find any version this little gem anywhere on the web so I decided to post it despite some video tracking issues I had with it. The lyrics & the melody really compliment each other with their warmth & this performance at Winnipeg's Old Stone Quarry in 1994 is sublime. I looked for a miracle, I wanted to know If all I had heard of God's power was so. Could He do all I was told He could...

I love watching this legendary choir sing in Canada's beautiful natural environment! I'm not sure which park this is in Winnipeg but the trees & the water combine with the singing to bring me into a state of perfect bliss & serenity. This popular hymn reminds us of our true purpose in life on this "3rd rock from the sun." We're to glorify God with our praises & in living a beautiful & clean lif...

At the conclusion of Billy Graham's groundbreaking crusade in the Soviet Union, he asked a Russian Christian leader for his thoughts on it. The man said he was pleased with all but one thing. When he asked what it was, the man answered, "We heard very little about the Cross!" From then on Mr. Graham began to speak more on the Cross of Christ. The Cross is without a doubt the most formidable obj...

I hope & pray that you're all enjoying your summer holidays. Earlier I did enjoy some fly-fishing in our mountain lakes here in B.C. but now that the heatwaves are upon us I'm mostly indoors close to my air conditioner. I thought this would be a great posting at the height of the outdoor summer season. It was filmed on location at Winnipeg's beautiful Kennedy House & the song is the work of Can...

In the study of this chapter Vernon McGee discusses Herod's foolish vow to Herodias's daughter Salome, the miracle of Christ feeding more than 5,000 people & His miraculous walking on the water. Matthew reveals the human side of Jesus, in particular, His many failed attempts to get some rest. It seems no matter where He went, as soon as the people find him they would almost swarm Him. 0:00 Intr...

This old song by Clephane & Sankey draws on one of Christ's most loved parables found in the Gospel of Luke 15:4. When the religious rulers of the day criticized Jesus for being friendly with those they held in contempt like tax-collectors, prostitutes & lepers He told them that "The Son of Man(Jesus) has come to seek & to save the lost." Then He tells them of the shepherd, representing Jesus, ...

It's very likely that this exhortation to praise was written by King David. The Hebrew word translated as "joyful noise" comes from the word "renanah" which implies a vocal shout of joy. The message of this Psalm 100 encourages God's people to 1) Make a joyful noise unto the Lord. 2) Serve the Lord with gladness. 3) Come before His presence with singing. 4) Know that He is God. 5) Know that we ...

1:04 So, the solo of this part is laurie, isn't she?
Actually, I don't know the name of the soloist in this recording. Laurie Unger joined the program several years after this was taken.
The harmony is so beautiful! Were CBC Hymn Sing Choir's members famous singer?
I'm not aware of any of them achieving any fame apart from this program. Maybe some of them did & I'm just not aware of it.
Beautifull!
Glory to Jesus ❤❤❤
Hello, I am a Japanese. I watch CBC hymn sing everyday! こんにちは!私は日本人です。 いつも見てます😊
Thank you for your comment Next-s5u! I wish I could get more recordings of them but CBC discontinued the program in 1995.
@ So I have a question. Were you a member of CBC Hymn sing chorus? Did you sing on this video?
Thanks for the question Next-s5u. I was not a participant in any of these videos. I don't have half the talent of these singers.
thanks for posting these excellent videos from the glory days of CBC Winnipeg. What a joy it must have been to be part of that group and ministry!
I'm glad you enjoy them!

How well I remember singing that song in my Church while growing up.
Beautiful interpretation. Great control and energy. Congrats, thanks for sharing.
Thanks Doug! You taught me well!
Just so beautifully sung ,Thank you all such truth in those words
Thank you too!
Beautiful music and message. The videography needs improvement, especially with the marvelous outdoor setting. The caption words also need some adjusting, some of the words are not visible because yellow would have been a better choice.
Thanks for the tips!
One of the happiest inspirational songs ever written and these guys never smiled once. How can you not when you sing of one of the most glorious events to ever happen to His chosen? The Ultimate Homecoming!!! And all glory to God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, finally getting the praise and glory due Him! Hallelujah ! ! ! :) :) :)

Thank you Geraldine! I'm trying to get more of their recordings, but CBC hasn't come through on my requests. I'll have to keep trying.

You've a wonderful collection of the Hymn Sing videos! I'd love to see one of them singing All God's Children Are Singing Tonight. Apparently it was done fairly often!
You know, unfortunately, I don't have that one.

VERY BEAUTIFUL

When I first arrived in Canada almost 40 years ago, CBC Television used to provide this type of Hymnal singing on Sundays; I really miss those moments...
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Hi, my brother! When was it?
Hello again Jean! I'm pretty sure it's from 1993.
Inspiring, edifying, and so melodious, a beautiful rendition. Thank you ladies, all praise to God !
Thank the Lord for giving such voice! Very hard to get men willing to learn voice techniques to sing the 'Bass" part! How are these two brethren now? Hope to encourage them in the Lord. Thank you. From Singapore!
Thank you Peter, yes, it takes an exceptional ear for the bass to harmonize to such a complex melody. I don't know where these brothers are today, but I wish them all of God's blessings.
Beautiful duet of a beautiful hymn giving tribute to an awesome God. What a blessing!!
Thanks for listening!
Beautiful song and voices!
What a splendid rendition of this song.
Are they still singing
This recording is from about 1985, so if they're about 20 yrs old then they would now be in their mid 60s. I don't think they're singing on TV anymore. I have only one other video of them it's "I am His & He is mine" on this link th-cam.com/video/PYxuJmUh52I/w-d-xo.htmlsi=BGW3CGzrnwfeGrWD
So what do you do with disappointment? What do you do when your expectations aren’t met? What do you do with miscommunication? When you’re wondering why God brought you to the place you’re at? When you don’t know what to do with yourself? Do you fight? Do you give up? God is teaching me to wait right now. God is teaching me patience. God is teaching me service. God is teaching me submission. I’m a visionary, and I’m a leader, and I’m a fighter. But God says to my prideful and ambitious heart, Look to my vision. Follow my lead. Don’t fight the battles I’ve already won. Even though I have plenty of directions that I want to go, God calls me to rely on him for true guidance on the right path. So whatever I have, and whatever I am task to do, I’ll do it with joy. I’ll do it with kindness. I’ll do it with patience. I’ll do it in complete faith and unwavering trust in God’s calling for my life. So if you’re disappointed, wait on the Lord, because the Lord shows up and he does not disappoint. If you were called somewhere, he will show you why and he will change your heart. #TrustAndObey When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word, What a glory He sheds on our way! While we do His good will, He abides with us still, And with all who will trust and obey. But we never can prove the delights of His love Until all on the altar we lay; For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows, Are for them who will trust and obey. Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet, Or we’ll walk by His side in the way; What He says we will do, where He sends we will go; Never fear, only trust and obey. “Tilatalek ken ti panagtulnog.. Isu laeng ti dalan, a mapan ken Hesus”. I hope my Ilocano chorus version is right. Until now, this song is still echoing in my heart & mind. I will Trust. I will Obey.
I wrote the lyrics for this particular hymn. Yes, "Fill My Cup" is a universal thought that I just expanded on. I have found the Lord Jesus to be so faithful to fill me to overflowing with His love and joy as I trust in Him. Eric Wild always composed the most wonderful music with lovely harmonies, sung beautifully by the CBC Hymn Sing Chorus. I am so thankful that you have been blessed by this selection.
Thank you, Deanna, for applying your amazing talents to God's glory!
This is beautiful..
Sublime ❤❤❤
Beautiful.

So beautiful and pure...Thank you !!❤
Glad you like it!
Many years ago this was one of my favorite solos to sing, and it is a great joy to hear it once again! Thank you!
Enthralling! What a unique Alto voice. I also enjoy the duet she does with Cynthia Laird of "The King of love my shepherd is." My only caveat is that I'm not sure that the refrain contains the original words. The version I'm familiar with has "So I'll cling to the old rugged cross," which continues the theme of Christ dying to be our Saviour. This version changes gears and talks about OUR cross, so the focus shifts to our discipleship rather than Christ the Redeemer. The cross is spoken of both ways in the NT, but not confused, asit seems they are here. I wonder what became of Martha (and Cynthia!). Their talent stands out, even in a very talented choir. Did she ever make recordings? Is she still living? Hymn Sing was a favourite in our house back in the day. I read that it was second only to "Front Page Challenge" in the ratings for CBC. Perhaps that was CBC's "golden age."
Yes, they do tend to apply "poetic license" sometimes. I don't know where Cynthia & Martha are now. A couple of years ago there was a reunion in Winnipeg, which is too far away for me to attend. Thanks for the comment & have a happy New Year!
Have you additional uploads with these two singing??? I thoroughly enjoyed their presentation. :)
