Landscape Photography Vlog without a WORD / Twilight photography
Landscape Photography Vlog without a WORD / Twilight photography
Spring is here and it is absolutely beautiful. Warm colours everything is coming to life after a long winter and photography seems like a nice thing to do when the temperature is not -25C anymore.
It has been a while since my last video but as it is the situation in the world is complicated and so are things for me. But I'm positive that this will pass and the world will get back to its normal beats soon.
This small mini-episode I recorded on my childhoods favourite beach and it's like 2 minutes from my parents farm in Estonia, Kasispea village. It's a small village in the Lahemaa natural park and for some od reason I don't visit it that much anymore. As I had my camera in my car I took a walk with my wife and daughter and ended up spending the evening on the beach looking at magical colours and formations in the clouds.
I tried speaking that day about some subjects but I just did not feel like it. The scenery was amazing, founds some cool compositions and played around with filters and different long exposure options but all the smells, sounds and memory of this place just wanted me to be quiet and take the time for myself.
I hope you like this little mini-episode and I will get back to the usual program soon enough.
With all the best and thank you for watching:
Caspar

Thank you so much for the trick with setting a blank layer to dark and then using clone stamp, I just did a pretty good job of salvaging a decent photo thanks to you!

It will work for very limited number of subjects, if the subject (a very dark mountain, almost black like in your example ) is darker than the sky but if it is not, then the subject is effected too. thank you for sharing...

Full of tedious waffle. I want to learn how to deal with the white halos I see occasionally in I don't want to know how you know or what a wonderful photographer he is or what you great great grandmother had for her last breakfast.

  • @bab008

Just choose the AUTOMASK option and brush a subtraction along the halo. Zaps it quickly in Lightroom w/o having to go to Photoshop or make tiny mask corrections.

It does not work. You can still see repaired areas where you cloned. It will look bad in print.

just need to be a bit more precise and discriminate with the clone-sample areas - the principle does work well - have used this method, too, for several years, on all kinds of images... landscapes, city scapes with building edges with strong halos from converting to black-white plus sharpening, portraits,... however, it still becomes problematic with silhouetted tree branches against a bright sky... the maze and complexity of halos on a tree silhouette does require different approaches than following each outline manually -

Hi Casper, just found you and watched with much interest. Had this problem, and yes have used the clone stamp, after hours, still not happy. Well, you have made my day. I am in a local photography club, would have had a higher score in a competition if I had erased the line round a mono print. Thank you for your brilliant explanation on this. Shall be looking forward to watching more.

Yes. Definitely the best method is clone color and paint with brush using darken blend mode. I wish you had reached this point earlier than almost ten minutes into the video. Thanks.

One suggestion: When you first begin explaining what halos are and what causes these, you might try showing an example "on screen" so people can see exactly what you mean. Then you can proceed to explain the various methods you can use to get rid of these halos. Just a suggestion my friend. Don't forget to mention that sometimes over sharpening an image can sometime cause halos. Suggest you do less talking and concentrate on the showing viewers the procedures. Less talk and more action - better. I want to refer my fellow photographers and PS users to your video
