How to Teach First words 'more' Speech Pathology
Teaching a child to use language is best done in a natural environment.
Most times I hear first words are when a child really wants something.
And that something is usually 'more'.
Pair this with key word sign for faster uptake as a research-based strategy to increase understanding and expressive language.

Well done Jules as usual Can you please share your experience on the issues and topics below: - Articulation disorders: Difficulty pronouncing certain sounds correctly, like lisps or trouble with "r" sounds. - Stuttering: Disruptions in the flow of speech, including repetitions, prolongations, or blocks. - Language delays: When a child's language skills are not developing at the expected rate for their age. - Autism-related communication challenges: Difficulties with social communication and language use in children on the autism spectrum. - Phonological disorders: Patterns of sound errors that affect entire groups of sounds rather than individual sounds. I think each common issue will make a good TH-cam video, I see many people struggling with those issues.

How to interact with children in a way that enhances their autonomy? Children are inherently dependent on their caregiver. How do we avoid making them feel like things simply happen to them, how do we avoid making them feel like they have no freedom or autonomy in a situation, especially when they have to be encouraged to do something that needs to be done? Your tip with the "finish" sign definitely helps. It helps them have some form of "control" over a situation. With this small trick they know that things have a beginning and an end. The most annoying acceptable thing I’ve noticed that’s crept into Australian speech is the use of the lips to pronounce L, which makes the L sound like a W. Hello our baby who is 6 months old has been doing this four times now. It is brought on by when he is particularly upset and hard crying. The shudders present as gasping with a full arm startle with similar facial expressions to this child in the video but are primarily most intense when he is sleeping after being consoled. What type of doctor diagnosed the shudder syndrome? Thank you!

Paediatrician ruled out any seizures or concerns. Our son has since done a sleep study and confirmed no other issues. Funnily enough he was diagnosed with reflux, and although shudders are unexplained, I often wondered was he having reflux when he had the shudders... but it's never been mentioned as a symptom of reflux... take videos and show your Dr. Also ours did them when he was tired

My neighbor's daughter did this at the same age. One day she just said "hey did you know you've stopped pronouncing your s sound?" And almost immediately that fixed the problem. No idea if that will help you but that did it for her!

Do you mean your sounds collapse and it's hard for someone to hear what you're saying? Or you try and put the words together but can't find the right words?

Have a look at my free download at growandtelltherapy.com.au under free milestone download. Don't worry I don't send spam. It is definitely worth getting some support to help with his expressive language. It will likely reduce frustrations (if there are any) as well as indicate some key strategies which are research based to encourage the talking/words/signing

I’m 14 and I like this technique. But I feel like when I use this sound to talk it sounds silly. Could you try to explain how to use this sound in a sentence? I feel like this might be a hard thing to explain so I’m sorry if it is

Does your tongue come out when you say 's'? Have you access to a Speech pathologist? You're lucky as you're old enough to practice independently once you have the right strategies

The provision and support for parents of children with SEN in the UK is sporadic at best. I went to my GP about the anxiety and depression I was experiencing during the process of getting our eldest his EHCP and a diagnosis and they just gave me a prescription for anti-depressants. I threw it in the bin, I don't want drugs, I want coping strategies.

Sadly we all have experienced this or know someone who has. It's hard to find a great therapist and when you do it's a wonder why this research-based method isn't made readily available to those who need it. Sorry you went through this experience. I hope you find an amazing therapist with effective strategies
