Exploring Lives & Ideas
Story Of How I Discovered The World’s Biggest Band (Coldplay in 1998)
*Watch Full Episode: th-cam.com/video/eUyxAaW9YuQ/w-d-xo.html*
*In this episode, I speak to Debs Wild, the lady who discovered Coldplay. After spotting them playing in a bar in Manchester in 1998, Debs introduced them to a few people in the industry. She has worked for them for the past 20 years and is currently the band's fan liaison.*
*In this clip, Debs describes the night in 1998 when she spotted Coldplay playing in a bar in Manchester. That night would start a domino effect, leading to the band getting signed. Coldplay fans won't want to miss this story. Yellow, Viva La Vida, Paradise, Fix You and The Scientist may not be here had this not happened.*

Thank you so much for this interview. I am slowly discovering the work of Mr Baron-Cohen and I am so impressed. This interview as well as a conference that he gave in 2014 (also available on TH-cam) makes me better understand the challenges of my son and other autistic people. I absolutely agree with his analysis of empathy (cognitive and affective) and see it every day in my autistic son. Most importantly, it procures me with reassurance that my son should not turn into a psychopath! 😊
Thanks for your comment. It’s really great to hear that you found this interview useful to listen to 😊 Hoping to have Simon back on next year so do consider subscribing if you’d like to see that one too 😊 Thanks again, Joe

Debs, you were so kind to me last year when I wrote about being a 70 year woman drummer who wanted to play with the band for one song. It was a crazy dream, and you did not lead me on, but you were encouraging to me that it was wonderful to have a dream. In listening to this Podcast I can see you definitely are a person that cares about people. Coldplay is amazing, and they surround themselves with amazing people like you. What a delightful and inspiring interview! I love how Debs basically invented her job and curated a career where she's in complete control. Personally, I run into trouble in any role that has very prescriptive set tasks. It took many years to realise this (and an ADHD diagnosis!), so it's heartening to watch this during my own transition period towards a life more like hers. Thank you both!
Hey, thanks for your comment! 😄 Glad that you enjoyed the interview, and wishing you all the best with your transition period! ❤ If you'd like to hear more inspiring life stories and interviews please consider hitting subscribe! Joe
To add, as just got to the Celestial Navigator part. I interpret it that Deb's navigation throughout has been based on her innate justice sensitivity, flexibility (i.e. a role full of 'random', but right tasks), and empathy with what the fans, and the band actually want. It makes complete logical sense to do this, but in a business full of nefarious motives and lanes to stick to, her approach stands out as other-wordly. That's my tuppence worth anyway!
@@chansonpapillon I love your insight here and this all sounds very sensible to me! :)
