The Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, the cathedral in Cologne or St. Paul's Cathedral in London are world-famous. Unbelievable, but true: the small Miners` church of Seiffen is also part of this group! The Miners`church of Seiffen is by far the most frequently depicted church in wood in the world (Look at Wikipedia). During the Christmas season, you can see them illuminated millions of times all over the globe in windows or living rooms. It was built in the years 1776-1779 and has the shape of a regular octagon. The church is also called the Church of Lights, as it was lit almost exclusively by candles until 1959. It stands centrally on a mountain ledge, holds 500 people and is the landmark of the village. The interior of the church impresses with simple elegance and friendly brightness. The organ was built in 1873. The title I chose "Gloria in Excelsis Deo" is played by Michael Harzer. He has been pastor of the Miners` church of Seiffen since 2005. I got to know and appreciate Mr. Michael Harzer 3 years ago. His hospitable, emphatic manner inspires the many guests of the church who visit this special place. Michael Harzer's countless church tours, during which he of course also practices his hobby, playing the organ, are a real advertisement for the toy village of Seiffen.
