Craig's bee flight...
It flew ok, but the smile factor wasn't there. Not having ailerons is a big deal with something like the bee. A glider is one thing, but the bee just crabs when I need to turn.....Meh

Pietenpol Aircamper Gear failure! A lesson in Geometry, metal fatigue and tubing thickness!
มุมมอง 4443 หลายเดือนก่อน
This landing was a surprisingly smooth landing. Looking back on the video; no drift, relatively slow descent, and straight down the runway. Unfortunately, the piece of thin-wall tubing that the axle was hooked to had flexed one too many times! Next time the builder should use the proper tubing thickness with a good triangulated design. ALL joints in a high stress cluster must align with each ot...

THIS IS WHY I LOVE FLYING!!!!! Rans S 12 flyby and cloud combat RAW.
มุมมอง 7672 ปีที่แล้ว
These were some seriously fun ....let me rephrase ....deliriously fun... moments from the fall flying. The clouds were perfect, puffy targets for one wing, or, if there was a hole, plow right through it. The challenge is to get only one wing in the cloud. I like how you can feel the moisture pass by if you stick your hand out during the pass, and the bump you feel at the same time. The fly-by w...

Practicing slips in the Rans S12 XL
มุมมอง 2062 ปีที่แล้ว
Contrary to popular lore....The Rans slips very nicely! Some people say that it "shudders" ....well, it doesn't. It acts like a normal airplane. A moderate slip at the typical approach RPM of 3500 comes down at about 1000 FPM. That's about the same as coming in at idle. Slipping at idle, it comes down very, very fast (I'd say 1500 FPM) requiring quite a bit of power to arrest the high descent r...

Lots of fun! I have no idea who "Jim" from "Jim's Strip" is, but everyone likes a good flyby.....right? Clouds were fun...very reminiscent of flying the Acroduster in the clouds, just much milder. Nothing like some cool, crisp morning air to yank one back to another time in their life....I digress... You can't "point and shoot" as well with the Rans. "94WE" would do whatever you told it to do. ...

    Buddy, that Rans looks like a load of fun! Except for the chute lines..... Low energy and low to the ground can be a recipe for disaster if you're not real careful. • @rebelpilotflyingchannel858
      @rebelpilotflyingchannel858 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the highest I got was maybe 2000'. The average speed was about 70 mph, but there was an 8 kt North wind sooo, about 60-62 mph. I think I was pushing 90 when I was "diving in". If you thought that view was great, take a look at my quicksilver acro video. It was taken at 5800' msl. Absolutely STUNNING!

    you touched down. nothing fell off or caught on fire. that's a win in my book. anyone brave enough to fly these things I would never talk bad about! I will say the gas tank directly above your head design is scary.

    • @rebelpilotflyingchannel858
      @rebelpilotflyingchannel858 ปีที่แล้ว

      I walked away, yes. BUT...The urge to smack myself when I watch it today is nearly overpowering. ALL I had to do was cut the power, bury the stick in my gut, and wait for it to settle down. It's literally the easiest airplane to land. There's not a whole lot that can go wrong when the airplane touches down at 27 mph. ground roll is a whopping 150 feet. As far as the gas tank goes, one time I forgot to turn the transfer pump off when I was moving fuel from the black seatback tank up to the overhead tank........It wasn't too dramatic, but I did see some fuel dripping down. I smelled like 2 stroke for a while.
