I had to look this type of video up because it’s been 4 years since I’ve written anything out of pure creativity and passion for the craft. The desire to write something and really dedicate my life to being an author, even if I’m never famous, is there but whenever I’ve sat down to actually write my mind is blank. I have to hone my skills all over again and get into the habit of reading like I used to. Thanks for the video, I’m looking forward to listening to what you have to say!

This is wild! I had the same progression into AuthorTube…Brandon Sanderson lectures and then Abbie Emmons (and Alexa Donne).

This is very similar to my experience with writing. I stopped about 7 years ago, and every time I tried to start up again I just couldn’t stand to look at what I had written (poorly). Luckily, I have a RIDICULOUS amount of ideas and inspiration, so I’m okay on that front, for me it’s really just starting again. I don’t think I can write without enjoying it, so I hope letting myself be bad and setting small goals will really help me get back in the habit.

brandon sanderson's lectures are also my favorites 😭 once you click on one of those, you can't stop 🤣 i even watched from other two channels they used to upload older lectures all the way back to 2016 💛 i don't even know how much i rewatched his lectures at this point. i would sometimes listen to it while doing house choirs since my brain flows when i'm doing choirs so it's even more helpful when listening to it while doing them so when im done with choirs i could just straight write/type about story ideas and related stuff. 💛

Hey! Its been almost three months since i stopped writing. I don't know what exactly was wrong. Seemed like writing wasn't for me or I'm just not good. But after watching your video now i know how to start writing again thank you ❤️

I'm so glad I found your channel! :D I want to get back into writing as well. When I write, I like to find and insert pictures from the internet to insert into my story to show what something looks like and I was wondering what your opinion was on that. I only do that if I'm writing something for my friends or even for myself.

After a break up, some health issues and a new relationship, I stopped writing as much as I used to. I would go months without doing anything, complete a chapter then, repeat. I would like to develop a routine again. Try and break the funk of the long periods of no writing. Similar to you, I have questioned my ideas. But what's gotten me the most is the struggles I orginally overcame when I first started writing, are back. My biggest issue, was conveying emotion. When there is a bone structure, its not as hard but when you need to write the bone structure it becomes horrible. I can't find the words to be good. And I definitely think I made the mistake, like you said, and compared myself to how it use to be.

The weird thing for me is that it doesn't feel like I was ever on hiatus, even though I was, and partially still am. I stopped writing consistently back in 2017/2018, that was middle school, now i'm graduating high school and it feels like life sucked all my passions away lol. your point about being more profilic in writing when you were still a kid was so spot on haha. ever since i've been off and on with writing, mostly brainstorming and writing things down, worldbuilding, etc. still no actual writing unless it's random snippets of stuff as an attempt to get me out of this rut and never ending cycle of brainstorming. your reason for writing is similar to mine, love that. I've always been inspired by the shows and books I read/watched when I was little, and even now, I want to capture that feeling so that others could feel the wonder I felt experiencing those stories. I'm gonna try to get back into consistently writing (and reading too, at that) anyway i'm so sorry for the rant, just wanted to say i appreciate this video and your tips, wishing you luck on your endeavors! <3

omg I want a retreat like that!! seems so much fun, and the vibes are on point! this year I won't be participating, because I finished my first draft of my first novel on november 4! yaaay! I've been working on it for the whole year and it feels amazing to be finished! so, next step is letting it rest for a while and then rereading and revising. Aw I want to do a writing retreat now! I'm not doing nanowrimo in the traditional sense, but I'm taking time this month to rewrite a project! The hype in the community is a good booster, so it's super motivating even though I'm not doing word count related goals:)

The farm property you stayed at looked so adorable! If I ever make it to the west coast I know where I'm staying lol Glad you got off to a good start this Nano and I'm sending good vibes for the rest of the month. I'll be impatiently waiting for this story to be written😂

Congrats to your 10K! :D Happy to hear that you are getting along so well. Your main character will definitely show herself the more the story progresses and then you can fix stuff in the upcoming drafts like you said. I'm pantsing and exploring my way through and not really in chronological order :P But like I said yesterday during the livestream, I'm learning a lot. Never had such a dirty draft though LOL. Not something I feel super comfortable with, especially because NaNo doesn't really give me time to rewrite things since I've started so late. But that's how it is and I'm gonna make the best out of it. Making the first draft will be more work than usual and I think I will plot a little more when it comes to participating in NaNoWriMo next year :D Cheer, cheer, cheer and happy writing to you!!! <3

I hope you had a lot of fun at your writing retreat! Congrats on hitting 10k! I just hit 30k today! My goal is to finish the whole first draft of this story, and that's ideally going to be around 85k, and so far it's going pretty well!

Omg the writing retreat looked so nice!! My nano was off to a rough start lol, I had already cut my goal to 25k because of everything going on with school and was falling super behind, but I was able to pick back up over the weekend and have been hitting a little over 1000 words for the last few days, which puts me back on track and I'm very happy about it. Hopefully I can pop in on a livestream or two this month!

This whole video gave me Gilmore Girl vibes and I love it! Also, I cannot wait to read your book as well as I'm excited when the three of you get your books published, and then there's a whole book tour. Idk I think too far into the future sometimes lol. But on another note, I'm so incredibly proud of you Danica! You are truly doing a fantastic job. You can do this! You can make it through NaNoWriMo.
