Hi, I`m Rick the Local Friendly Handyman and welcome you to my channel. Here I show videos of both completed jobs for my customers along with videos explaining the tools/fixings/materials that I use to create my projects. I build bespoke items rather than assembling flat packs as feel this creates a stronger sturdier product for my customer.
I use Makita 18v Tools and other manufacturers products like Evolution, De Walt. I will test and review new products so please get in touch

I may post the occasional cooking video as I really enjoy spending time in the kitchen creating a lovely meal after a hard days work. In our spare time my partner and I love nothing more than a road trip either in our trusty Volvo or on my Harley Davidson exploring our beautiful countryside here in the UK as well as Europe and USA.

I've been thinking of exactly something like this! Can I ask how you attach the rails onto the concrete please?
Brilliant. What concrete screws or bolts do you use to fix the 4x4 post to the wall?
We have these but are very heavy for two of us, and killing our backs is there a trick to it?? As soon as one of us slides it down out of square it falls through...any help.please
Hi, take a look through my play list and find In Situ Fence Panels and you will see how i do it. Thanks Rick
Ouch, whoever made it was in way over their head. I feel bad for the homeowner if they paid for it and the wasted materials. Enjoy the good weather ;-)
It was a shocker but I changed it to fantastic and my customer is over the moon. Not bad weather for December. Thanks Rick
Nice, looks good👍👍like 2
You put a high security lock on a fence someone can just climb over? That makes no damn sense, son. Did the customer _demand_ it be made this way? Did you try to talk them out of it or did you just take their money and run? The bolt looks very impressive, but the small screws holding it on will tear it with a few good kicks. Why wouldn't you use carriage bolts like everyone else?
Proper good job that mate
That isn't going to fail in my lifetime, I can say that for sure. Nice work!
Why don't you cut the old posts off , leave the buried bit in the ground and put new ones in a little distance away ?
Nice work... But doesn't the post Bridge the damp proof course?
Parabéns 👍🏻 👍🏻
100% needs gussets
Could you share the details in the lock
The timber is it tongue and groove
Hi Andrew, Yes nominal 19mm Pressure Treated Swedish Shiplap
Спасибо большое, отличный вариант
Thats great, 👍 thank you 🙏
You are very welcome, i am trying to hit 1000 subscribers. Please can you share through your friends etc. thank you 🙏
@@localfriendlyhandyman2408ok, i think you need to post your videos more often and you will get subscribers. All the best.
Looks very neat. I like the lock, more practical than my padlock, being able to lock it from either side.
Hey and thank you 👍👍
They are so cute
Hey and thanks Rhonda 👍👍
very nice to see quality work for a change. thanks!
Thank you Loligagger85👍👍👍👍
Why do prefer the thumb latch to the ring latch?
Easier for my customers to use 👍
What thickness of wood did you use for the bracing of the gate ?
Nominal 45mm
Climb over would be quicker lol
Haha yeah
Nice job!, what make and size of screws are you using?
Hi @yourPinner Sorry I can’t help you with that as I have a private contract with the supplier. Cheers
i don't disagree about the safety aspect, but there's no such thing as road tax. roads are funded through general taxation. some vehicles are subject to vehicle excise duty (VED), but many (like pedal bikes, historic vehicles more than 40 years old, and electric cars) are not. so would you make electric bikes subject to VED when electric cars aren't?
The bolt is very strong I'm sure. What about the fixings around it?
Stainless screws as usual
I vote for Fanny McVanface
Sorry lol Vanny McVanface
Lovely 🎉 see you in July!
Can't wait!
Hi, I have been thinking for a while that I would do something similar to replace 30 odd panels and came across your videos on you tube. Out of interest what timber do you use for your rails and do you just use three horizontal rails cut exactly to length and wedged in? I was thinking of using vertical timbers in the post slots and then using 3 rails, all in 4 x 2.
Hi Chez, I use sawn Redwood and treat the ends. hope this helps. Thanks Rick
Get a recip saw man much easier
Hey Morrisman, i have one but wasn’t on my van. Didn’t take long all the same. Cheers Rick
Why didn't you extend the diagonal braces right to the 2 by 4 edges?
Hi Peter, I never go over 45 degrees on braces as then you lose the strength and gate will sag. Thats why you don’t see any angle bracing on bridges over 45 degrees. Hope this helps and thanks for the feedback. Rick
It’s essentially only as strong as one paving brick
I have bonded the joints between the surrounding bricks so solid as a rock now.
He is doing fantastic. He has a spirit level.😮
That’s handy ‘cos now he can lift that set out and put it where he likes👍
Bricks are now bonded all around. Super solid
The failed metal fixings must be removed and the holes made good. You simply can't grind them off because the steel fixing will rust in the hole and spawl the brickwork, creating more work.
Huge thank you to my 500th subscriber. Please message and I will give you a shout out.
What's with the scuba glasses😂
Haha better than nothing
thumbs up Daddio
Cheers mi deers 😜
Rick I LOVE IT
Many thanks Mike
Please list where you get your gate hardware from. Thanks!
Hi Glenn, I have a contract with a supplier so cant offer any details sorry. Thank you for your comment Cheers Rick
Hi Rick, where do you get the gate furniture from, is it all gatemate gear?
Hi there, Gatemate Suffolk Latch but the rest is a whole lot better than gatemate. Hope this help and thanks for reaching out
What’s your thoughts on ripping the shiplap to make the right gate width, what is the effect on the pressure treatment
Treat cut ends with a superior treatment.
Nice looking gate. We're surprised the person didn't want a keyed lock on that nice looking gate 🤔 Thank you for sharing your videos 🙏
Thanks for watching!
Looks outstanding 😁
Thank you Lizza.
Got the same mower and it has been a great bit of kit, soon be time to put it out to use again, subscribed.
Thanks for the sub!

Thank you too
Excellent work as always. God bless you and your beautiful country 🙏
Thank you very much!
Looks fantastic. Great job 🙏 thank you for sharing your videos 🙏
My pleasure 😊
Hi All, I was asked to put a key lock on this gate. When i arrived and saw it I was shocked. I didn’t build this gate, just shared my findings
The bracelet on wrong, they won,t prevent or support the gate from sagging
Whoever built this gate needs a lesson for sure
Nanna's beautiful girl ❤❤
She's beautiful
Thank you, naughty too lol
