    The 155 XTP is devastating! And the 180 XTP is no slouch either. For general carry, either would be great. If I was going to be carrying as a backup for woods/bear protection, I think I’d be inclined to stay with the hardcast for maximum penetration. It would be interesting to see a side by side with the hardcast hollow points - one with a shallow cavity vs. the one you have been using. I’ll stand by for that comparison video!

    For my 300 wsm for hunting. I use a 2lbs trigger. Rifle Basic trigger does the trick. I'm only out to 1200 yards. I purchased a 300 Rum barrel and I'm just starting the reload process for it. Happy shooting great video, keep the gong ringing.

    As a self defense round in your 150 gr. XTP load…holy smokes! Devastating without over penetration!

    Great video! Some real legitimate information to make people think and consider 10mm as a primary backup (predator defense) gun. I carry a G20 10mm and have for several years, I run a kenai chest holster from Gunfighter Inc. and love the accessibility and comfort. I run this setup while hunting, backpacking with my family, and on my dirtbike and snowmobile adventures, other than getting a little dusty or some occasional mud, it's a great setup and accessible one handed in almost any scenario. Regarding your testing, I agree the 155gr XTP seems a little light for bear defense, it's definitely going to smack the bear and dump its energy and let it know you are a formidable opponent, however I think it lacks stopping power or enough to get to vitals and stop the attack. The 180gr hard cast is 100% getting through bones/vitals but without much tramatic tissue damage. I would be interested to see a 180gr XTP or other JHP up around max load in this same testing scenario to see how it performs.

  • @deangustafson7533
    @deangustafson7533 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Agree with your test. That 155 XTP would be a good self defense round - no worries about over penetration. For deer hunting, my only concern would be with meat damage, say if the hit were to the shoulder. Meat is my primary concern when hunting. It is why I use all copper bullets in my hunting rifles. In the 10mm, .357, .41, and .44 category…for handgun hunting, the latter 3 would be my choice in the revolver, with a 6 inch plus barrel. As a backup in bear country, my choice would be the 10mm semi auto. Easier to carry, more rounds (that you hopefully wouldn’t need, but have) and weights would be similar to the other pistols. The 44 magnum obviously has the most energy, but also the most recoil. How many shooters, in all practicality, can shoot multiple rounds in succession with any degree of accuracy, especially in a stressful situation? Same with the .41, albeit less recoil than the .44. The .357 with a 4 inch barrel? Maybe. I carried one for many years of my law enforcement career. But that being said, I would choose the 10mm with 180 grain hardcast bullets for backup defense in bear country. One other thing that’s worth mentioning - if you aren’t used to shooting a semi auto pistol, or don’t have strong wrists, then the revolver would be the better choice for you. With any semi-auto, you need to be practiced in being able to clear a jamb and cycle in a new round should something like that happen. Bottom line - be well practiced with whatever you decide to carry! Good video - like that you are doing more than just water jugs. More realistic.

  • @deangustafson7533
    @deangustafson7533 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I would think that if you are carrying it in the backcountry as bear protection, you would want the penetration that the hardcast bullet provides. No doubt the faster 150 gr hollow point has plenty of energy, but my choice would most certainly be the 180 gr. hardcast, with the penetration to get through thick hide and bone if needed. For me…I’d carry the hardcast.

    Brilliant review. I have shot at some distance with my 300 UM but not out past 2000 yards. I do like the caliber and I for one have no issues with the recoil so many complain about. Have a very good muzzle break is important although deafening I must say. But allows for faster follow up shots if need be. The right hand loads is also a must. Sometimes discovering the right load is mind boggling. But worth it in the end. Scope , mount and rest with the right trigger is also a must. My trigger is right at 2 pounds. I would like to go a bit lighter but would need to once again replace my trigger. Thank you for your time and upload.

    Now that is one beautiful customized Remington you do not see many of those in left hand operation of course I'm pretty lucky ambidextrous so that means I can shoot right-handed or left-handed. PS that also means two that I can shoot handguns with either hand without any problems.

    I am 13 I want a 30-378 weatherby in the accurmark right now I shoot a 35 whelen with a muzzle brake with the accurbreak or a better muzzle brake and a good recoil pad with mecurey recoil compensators in the stock could I handle it ?

  • @danelobe2524
    @danelobe2524 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Problem is the barrels don't last past 2,000 rounds. I'll stick with the .300WM. No one's going to kill game past 1000 yards and have respect for animals. Hitting steel plates I can hit a plate at 2000 yards too. You just can't do it every shot so it kind of stupid. 80% luck....

    I’m 13 I want to order a Remington 700 in this caliber if I do I want to put a fat bastard muzzle brake on it by APA and mercury recoil compensatores to put in the stock. I am 13 6 foot 140 pounds and currently handle a 35 whelen with a muzzle brake no problem and I’m not recoil sensitive could I handle it ?

    • @michaelreed1380
      @michaelreed1380 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The fat bastard is an amazing break. It tamed a 300wm shooting hot 210s and 215s quite well. Asking someone if you can handle a rifle is asking a rather subjective question. Everyone's comfort level is different. More importantly, why do you need to shoot such a big round/rifle? Is it for a reason or are you just trying to man up for something you don't need to be doing? I'm not knocking on you at all, but you are stepping up to big guns and big rifles that takes skill to shoot. I dont want you wasting your time, money and energy. All though shooting big guns is a blast, but it really depends on your purpose. Have fun and be safe young man. Master your craft first, don't try and go for it all at once. You can always adapt and grow into bigger things.

    What weight bullet is most accurate for the 300 rum? I'm shooting 180grn with a winchester mod. 70, not happy with the group at even 200 yards.

    • @manskull101-Clint
      @manskull101-Clint 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi brian I'm not sure I could pick a specific bullet weight for max,accuracy But for my purposes I go with heavy for caliber bullets . I'm currently using a Hornady eld match grade bullet. 225 gr. I get pretty consistent sub 1 moa groups. I think finding the right bullet /powder/ charge weight ,and bullet seating depth all play equal roles ,in accuracy, also primer choice and consistently seating them, case sizing and neck tention.are very important , when you think you have that all figured out consistency consistency consistency ... Half the fun is the pursuit of perfection! Happy shooting

And a Jewell trigger, I'm only into it around $1.600 pretty great performance for that $$$, I think that's good bang for the buck. Thanks for watching and the comment
