As of now the Blackmagic Camera app is not on the android but they announced it will be arriving soon! A good alternative is Filmic Pro. White Balance Kelvin Meter seems like a good substitute to Light Spectrum Pro. Hope this helps!

    Have you changed for hardware encoding? In the end of the day, GPUs are only used on Premiere for playback and acceleration of fx or plug-ins. The decompress and encoding are mostly done by the CPU. Thats why here. In Brazil we are using Xeons 2696 V3 for exporting 6K BRaw 5/1, 3/1. A video with 10 mins length in 30fps with colour grading and texts, motions and soud mixing are exported in 7 Minutes. That's because the CPU has multicores (18) that are used to encoding. It's unbelievable what these Chinese processors can do after 10 years of old. Thats a good test by the way, and we all know that after exporting the game session begin...

    Having gotten an Associates of Arts, but not having gone to film school, this episode resonated with me. It's definitely such a subjective decision. For me, being able to learn from and with people that DID go to film school, like Raff, Dan, Will and Austin, while also not having the crippling financial debt, was a nice middle ground. It did mean that when I moved to Atlanta in 2019, I was really getting my professional career started with just what I had learned on my own, and what I learned from a 3 month internship at a high end video production company. Which meant that I look back at so much of what I did in 2019 and 2020 (including working for DV) and cringe VERY hard. Not even in just the work, but the way I handled different business relationships. But not having a huge amount of debt meant that I could focus fully on my career and live off of my savings until I leveled out financially, which now I can say I definitely have. But I for sure benefited from those that did go to school, and were willing to help and teach me (like Raff letting me borrow his gear for the first few gigs I did, which to this day was such a pivotal shift in my career and I am so grateful to Raff for that). It's meant I've had to learn on my own, and haven't reached a level of producing the kind of stuff that DV does, which is fantastic, but I have reached a higher end of that realm of being a one-man band, and still get to work on some amazing projects, travel, DP, produce videos & commercials, edit, all that great stuff. The biggest thing I caution people with film school is just the financial aspect. Asking an 18 year old kid to spend like $50K-$100K on school when they aren't sure that's what they want to do can just destroy them financially. We certainly don't expect 18 year olds to get a $100,000 loan to buy a home, or buy a car, or invest in some business that they don't know they actually want to do or get, so that being the norm with school is just fascinating to me. So taking some time after high school to really feel out what they want to pursue I think is a great middle ground. Also, I identify so hard with Dan using glorified heat lamps from Home Depot as lights, as I did the same thing 😂

    Awesome commercial and breakdown video guys. If you were presented with this type of commercial again, would you tackle it the same way (stop motion), or look into 3D animations for more flexibility in post? I can definitely see the advantages of both.

      Hey man great to see you on here thanks for the comment! I think as much as we love using 3D I think it would have been even more challenging. The phone images looked very nice but quite phone like and over processed/ compressed looking. I guess with more grading and softening you can make the apple image look less digital. In the end it is the successful telling of the story told that will determine the way the projects received. The red footage is less fatiguing to look at for longer periods of time. Fyi an ef lens set up with continuous auto focus ( in the RED focus setting choose focus>continuous> click the ok button to activate)could keep focus as well if you did not want to pull focus.

    • @dreschervisuals
      @dreschervisuals 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Totally agree - it’s an amazing camera to keep on standby. Blackmagic should take notes this is actually a pocket cinema camera 😂 Regarding the auto focus on the Komodo- it’s rarely reliable. I would not recommend it to anyone , however there are some lenses it does seem to perform best with.

      @dreschervisuals most definitely! I looked at most cams from the FX3 and the Black magic to even old school arri options but the arri was too big for my travel gorilla stripped down style shoot desires and the Black magic was economically challenged and awkward. The fX3 was nice but then the komodo was Sooo simple and the r3d 17:9 files exposed to traffic light happiness in HQ MQ through cine glass is just wow. When scenes are lit properly the files just go 💥💥💥💥🎬📽🎬

  • @CUTONTHEACTION
    @CUTONTHEACTION 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Great comparison, and relevant to all of us these days as we are up against everyone with their phones. DOF is the easiest tell, then the subtlety of detail in the Komodo vs. the crunchiness of the iPhone. I wonder if the Blackmagic app for iPhone could've helped. One thing is for sure: current iPhone video is way ahead of just a couple of years ago out of the box, specifically with much less crappy sharpening. Color I can match almost anything. I prefer manual control over everything but Apple is doing post magic on the phone to do a lot of things I would do anyway, especially with photos. iPhone IS great for BTS while we are working without having a dedicated crew for that.

    It’s very interesting to see them side by side. The red seems to have far better control of saturation throughout the tonal range. It’s a bit hard to explain but particularly on the skin tones the red has rich saturated shadows and desaturated highlights whereas the iPhone seems to have a more consistent saturation that feels less natural

    • @dreschervisuals
      @dreschervisuals 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Totally agree! There are quite a few details that really make the r3d footage stand out and shine. Personally I found the iPhone’s noise reduction to be a huge drawback on the image. If that got removed with a firmware option that would really awesome!

    A better way to match the two cameras would be to use better color management! Using two differents paths to Rec709 is definitely making it harder for you to bring those cameras together. I would bring both cameras into the same color space and then use the same transformation to Rec709 for both. I’d love to give it a shot if I could get access to the footage!

    • @dreschervisuals
      @dreschervisuals 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is a great place to start for sure! Over the years we've done this for matching our BRAW files to r3d, while in theory it sounded great we noticed quite a bit of artifacts in the images when doing this through color space transform via resolve. Ideally the solution would be to hire a colorists for the project if we absolutely needed these images to match but in reality that's not always an option due to budget and time for some of the projects we plan to use our iPhone 15 Pro with. Thanks for the comment and suggestion we appreciate it!

    I know I'm super late but I couldn't help but notice the radiator fans on your new setup were facing the wrong way and pulling air away from it instead of pushing air through it. I know it'll cover up the rgb fans but thats normally because they're supposed to be top/front mounted as I'm sure you already know lol. Love the video either way and its REALLY good to know that there isn't much of a difference in gpu power when it comes to editing even between a 5 year difference in cards. Gaming is probably the best reason to upgrade in general.

      We've tried Resolve and it's been great for coloring but it's not that suitable for our editing style where we rely heavily on the dynamic link between premiere, after effects and audition. Resolve just doesn't feel like it match up to after effects just yet but we still try to edit some projects there from time to time!

  • @choppergirl

    Great test, it actually was a real world test with tons of effects applied. You didn't get much speed boost because it was mostly software rendering because of those effects, but that's the reality real world scenario every video of mine is like. SO it was exactly what I wanted to know - would a Turing card be a worthwhile investment. Not really, so maybe on the very low end only of a 1660 Super. for under $100 Even then, I'm like meh.

  • @savydaniel
    @savydaniel ปีที่แล้ว

    I was editing on a Ryzen 7 2700 with an RTX 2070 Super and 32GB DDR 3000. A 4k video of 10 minutes with not much effects on it was done in about 10-11 minutes. Then I upgraded to a Ryzen 7 5800X, same GPU and 32GB DDR4 3600. The same project was rendered in about 6 minutes (PBO settings for OC on the CPU, no OC on the GPU, I never do that). It's much better, but I do feel the need of a 3080 for... well, work, of course! Some guy mentioned "if you use Asus motherboard you can set it in bios to use combine gpu and processor " and I've been researching that, no results. He most likely refers to iGFX in Asus Bios (Advanced mode - NB Configuration, enable iGFX) for multi-monitor display, if you have a CPU with an internal GPU (like the G series from Ryzen) and a dedicated GPU.

    Faster CPU = Faster render times might wanna consider building a workstation 😉

    Thanks for the video. I'm currently using a 1070 Ti as an EGPU on a Samsung Book Pro 360, and suspect that a faster video card wouldn't help out that much on a EVO i7 platform.
