Manually Starting a 1931 Ford Model A
In this video, a 1931 Ford Model A called "Vertie" gets a hand-cranked start after a dead battery. She has something to say after the engine revs, though...
This is a brief demonstration on how to manually start a Model A. This is for entertainment purposes and is not for instruction.

I knew this was a recent video because the guy is wearing pink to be woke
Bless your heart! ❤
Whenour car constructor come back to the 1920--30-40-50 60-70 cars models ❤❤❤😊😊😊
I’m proud of you , young fella, you handed the crank properly, open palm.
Sounds good 👍
Does it need a battery to start?
Probably. These cars had an old version of distributor ignition which does require some battery power to operate. I don't think turning the engine the way he did would generate enough electrical to run the ignition system

Sure awful lot of turns on GAV.
meanwhile me in cold winter in finland cranking up my -70's Lada 1200 up and running... its my daily car already for 8 years :D
I wish, I could see more Model A cars in real life. It's credible after nearly 100 years old, these cars have survive.
May GOD fulfil ur wishes.
Very nice
I had an old tractor on the farm that crank started. In the winter, for the next mornings start, I would kill the engine with the choke to gas up the cylinders. In cold weather the gasoline wouldn't evaporate overnight so it started on the first pull.
Qué maquina papá en Jujuy conosi a uno que tenía uno como ese 🇦🇷👍👍👏👏👏
АВТО - 🤔☺👍👍👍👍👍
Beste Wagen der Welt absolut nachhaltig.
Don't hv to worry about battery down.
Nice job now let's go for a drive 👍👍🇺🇸
Seems like an awful lot of turns opening up the GAV (Gas Adjusting Valve) for pre-start.
I thought the same thing. My jaw dropped.
Why don't you explain what you are doing to start the car instead of letting us guess. All those levers and switches. would be nice to get a walk through.
🤠👍👍👌
Thanks for sharing nice job.
Nice video. seriously why are you using your right hand? This is dangerous.,
I've never had an issue as long as I have the ignition timing where it "needs to be". Thumb in the palm is my biggest measure of safety apart from that. As long as my arm isn't in the path of that crank and it's timed correctly, I don't feel unsafe with this method. You're not the first to mention this. I think it's a valid point but not one that I personally use.
@@Joshkthomas Thanks for responding. I was wondering why you did not use your left hand since it is much safer.
Warning: NEVER use RIGHT ARM. use left arm only and without thumb wrapped on crank.. less on a bad day your arm is broken.
When it comes to breaking arms, in my experience, it's all been in the ignition timing, but your preference is certainly valid for an extra precaution.
Awesome car
That's how my '29 sounds..
Really good car. We have the same but as Tudor
так она у тебя ездит вообще или нет
The engine is tuned perfectly
Like music.
Nice car! Do you take it hershey aaca show?
Unfortunately, not yet, though I have driven it in 10 states and put approximately 10k on it over about 5 years. It's just a driver!
What a Beauty! Thanks for sharing. I hope you have some more videos especially of you driving it. I'm going to check now.
Thank you! This is my first video. I'll do my best to get a driving video uploaded soon. First, the wiring contacts on that horn need an attitude adjustment! It's all part of the fun.
@@Joshkthomas absolutely Josh good luck. I'm selling a 1930 model A for my very first boss way back when. It's a show room piece
