DIY desk turned into night stands. Repurposed and refinished with Rustoleum rate green chalked paint

Come along with me as I turn this old desk into a pair of matching nightstands! I used rustoleum’s tate green chalked paint and loved the matte finish. But it took more coats than I prefer to use. I explain in the video. Let me know if you’ve tried a similar project and how you think this one turned out!

Try a roller. I find it’s a smoother finish since I don’t have a sprayer.
@@jaynefrederickson5058 I wish I had tried that! Now I know for next time!
Beautiful job, that was a LOT of wood. I’m of the mindset that people do whatever they want with their furniture. I think Retique-It is some of the best paint out there. My first color is the color you were using. The consistency is like butter, I just love it. The black is nice too. Thanks for the video!
@@kellyblodgett3214 thanks for the encouragement! I’m looking forward to trying more of their colors soon, so maybe black will be next! Have you tried the triple tique topcoat? I have some and have not used it yet.
Yes I know Him and all I can say is AMEN
@@johnarmstrong463 so glad to hear! 😊
Love the Bible verses 🫶🏼🥰
@@GT_Racer347 thanks so much!
@@littlekmama The chest was amazing too but I really love the way you sprinkle biblical goodness too. 👌
@@GT_Racer347 thank you for the encouragement!
I'm confused she's saying that the top part is not wood although it is wood
@@autumnsfallz oh you make a good point. It is solid-wood but the finish is a faux-wood look. Because I put two boards together, there would’ve been a seam.
Great job!!
@@amylandry4108 thank you!

Great video for what NOT to do.
This comment is what not to do! She did an excellent job! Shame on you ☹️
Looks great! I'm keeping all the old batwing hardware I ususally give away. You made it look so fresh and classy. :)
@@katalintorok2538 thanks so much! If I change out hardware, I always keep the old, so I have quite a collection! Lots of batwing!
Color was spot on and the knobs/handles were gorgeous!! Great job!
@@joylynnburkhardt3202 thanks so much!
Nice witness dude
@@mattvisaggio thank you! Praise God! 😊
I use it all the time 😊 but in Canada we don't have many colour choices. I always like to do more then two thin coats. Gives me a smoother finish ❤
@@better970 i have had lots of experience with white and gray but the green was a new experience for me!
I tried a makeover on a dark-stained chair using Rustoleum Chalked Paint. I was not at all happy with the results. Lots of coats needed (even though the can says no primer needed). The dark reddish stain bled through over and over and I finally just went with the flow and did a pink wash on it. I gave it to our little neighbor girls who fell in love with it so it wasn't a complete loss. 😉 People have tried since that paint first came out (which is about 10+ years ago) to say it worked as well as Annie Sloan chalk paint (which was THE most popular chalk paint at the time). Firstly, it isn't chalk paint but merely a super-matte latex paint. It's going to act just like any other latex paint except that the finish sheen is very very matte. Funny how people probably never read the label "Chalked" not "Chalk". I did read the label but was redoing furniture at the time and thought maybe it 'could' be a good idea to use this paint. I was never happy with the results. As you say you did 4 coats of the paint AND a top coat. That's not much of a savings IMHO.
@@uscitizen898 ooh I like the sound of a pink wash! Good save! I think with many projects, one of the challenges is rethinking what you’ll do if something unexpected happens, ie, paint doesn’t act like you expected. I’ve frequently thought the more expensive paint like Annie Sloan would be the same cost with less work, so I’d consider trying it soon!
Beautiful!😍
@@fernolore thank you 😊

@@Kay-ln3kx aw thanks so much! Others did it first, so I cannot take all the credit.
Beautiful! I love them and you did a great job. Kudos too for how you handled the JWs. Most don't know that they are not Christians but they definitely are not.
Thanks so much for your kind words! I’m learning so much about different religions, and it is so sad how many use Scripture and claim Jesus but worship a different Jesus and preach a “different gospel.” I pray the Truth would set these ladies free.
@@littlekmama amen to that!
Actually we are Christians. We follow the teachings of Christ, that is the definition of a Christian. We believe he died for our sins just like you do. We believe he is one with his father the same way he said he and his disciples were one; meaning they are union not they are literally one person. The term trinity is found nowhere in the Bible and if you do extensive research you will find that the idea of a triune God has pagan origins. The reason Christianity adopted the belief was to convert pagans over to Christianity. So Christians adopted the trinity the same way they adopted Christmas, Halloween, etc. It wasn’t even adopted as a Christian doctrine until 325 CE.
@@katurahb I appreciate the comment. Jesus is God in flesh. Co-equal and co-eternal with the Father and the Holy Spirit. God is three in one, and This is from the beginning. He is unchanging. To be a Christian is to believe the Gospel. That is the good news. That though we were all born spiritually dead in our sin, and are enemies of God, it was God who gave His Only Begotten (not created) Son who gave His life to pay the penalty for sin. God Himself became the cure for sin and death. There is nothing man can DO to be saved. It is only by grace that we can put our faith in Jesus, and He saves us from our sins. We are justified by faith in Christ alone.

Wow. You painted some things white.
Thats rude, if it doesn't appeal to you, why bother saying anything?
@@margaretleepart9301I said something because posts where DIYers do nothing requiring creativity just waste readers' time on here. If you don't have a new or creative idea, seek your 15 minutes of fame elsewhere.
Don't be mean....
I hope you find some creative ideas. I could recommend some great DIYers for really unique refinishes! I’ve found a lot of people still like the white in their homes.

I love that you do emphasize to not use pins along the fold! I wish I knew that with my first baby. With my second I used clips from the craft section at dollar tree when pins wouldn’t be super practical. Came across this video because it’s been 3 years since either has been in cloth diapers and I need the pattern for an incoming niece or nephew.🥰
Yes! Those clips are brilliant! Especially if you have small ones around!
Where is the pattern?
Thank you so much for providing the video and pdf 💛💛💛
can you use this with prefolds or flats?
Darling!!! Great job💖💖💖

How can I make sure I got the right size of the pattern after printing it out?
