The Good, the Bad, and the Shiny: A Data Scientist's Guide to Choosing Python Web App Frameworks by Alan Feber
Presentation Slides: rstatsnyc.blob.core.windows.net/misc/The-Good-the-Bad-and-the-Shiny-A-Data-Scientists-Guide-to-Choosing-Python-Web-App-Frameworks_Alan-Feder.pdf
Abstract: Shiny has long been the go-to for data scientists creating web applications in R, but Python offers a plethora of alternatives that can be overwhelming to choose from. This talk will demonstrate the creation of a single application using three popular Python tools: PyShiny, Streamlit, and Gradio. We'll explore the strengths and weaknesses of each framework, through a live demonstration of each. This comparison will provide you with a practical roadmap for selecting the ideal Python web app framework to suit your specific data science projects.
Apps that were demoed during the talk:
-Streamlit (www.alanfeder.com/dcr_rag/streamlit_lite.html)
-Gradio (huggingface.co/spaces/AlanFeder/RGov_Gradio_App_-_Better_Chat)
-Shiny (www.alanfeder.com/dcr_rag/shinylive1/)
-HTML (www.alanfeder.com/dcr_rag/html_app.html)

Great explanation. Thanks for sharing this
What is the likelihood for BART. He talked about the priors, but not the likelihood.
To comment on a small aside on R's annoying behavior relating the final comma: the rlang package introduces the list2 function that does allow for trailing comma's in lists. I often find myself replacing list with list2 just to avoid runtime errors. Of course, it would've been nice if this was supported throughout the language natively.
Where can one find the Puppeteer chrome extension at 40:52? I only see the Puppeteer IDE extension.

Thanks for posting the recorded talk, I finally got around to listening to Jeff, it was really informative. 🙏
Great Talk.
Please I would like to know if Principal Component Analysis (PCA) was incoporated into the CMP regression model and also the rate parameter being null,is there an explanation for that . I am currently using this model for my project and i am finding it difficult to estimate the lambda. I asked of the PCA because my outputs are that variable despite me not using anything of like that. I am very happy to come across this video of yours and would be super excited to receive a feedback from you . Thank you very much prof. (Livingstone is my name please)
Thank you very much for the explanations professor
Wish I saw this 5 years ago. Dang. 👌
Very good talk, thanks! Are the links from the presentation (or the presentation itself) available?
Thank you for an catching me up on the past 15 years of R. I look forward to begin a part of the community for the next 15+ years
Why does she keep sniggering like its funny. Dont disagree with her but it was hard to listen to, remembering the calls of those stuck inside begging for help. She needs to sound more serious not like she's selling it.
I have got to make it to a Lander conference before Dr. G decides to retire ❤ huge huge fan Thank you for posting
thank you!
Can I get the mathematics behind this model?
Excellent
Awesome stuff!
Embedded in time is a remarkable generalization range from a survey in a morning or afternoon, a coin flip or a sporting event (the last example). I would say the sporting event has a "historical context" but that is more specific (narrower) than time.

Everyone needs to learn about what Sarah is doing and how she’s being throttled and censored! Share anything you find with her. Try finding Sarah on the Shawn Ryan Show, good luck.
💖
That is Dr Daniel to you😮
Saw Sarah on The Shawn Ryan show and was enamored. This is woman is highly intelligent and knows her stuff. She’s also not afraid to say a lot of things that everyone else is. If she sees something wrong, she speaks up and doesn’t give a damn who doesn’t like it. People like her are a part of the very few that still give me faith in our government.
Same here. Bought her book and have been trying to find other podcasts about her talking about Benghazi. I’m obsessed
Thanks David. Could you please also make a tutorial of Copilot for Rstudio since copilot is available in Rstudio.

Great presentation! What about mapview?
Mapview is great, but to me it is mostly a wrapper around leaflet, so I just went for the lower level API.
Or did the damn randomisation correctly 😅
belgian beer and andrew gelman on the shelve :)
I'd like to plot data from a csv file, but allow the user to select which series to show. The plot would autoscale accordingly. Unfortunately, I haven't seen any off-the-shelf solutions for this.. perhaps csv-plot and plotjuggler being the closest. So looking to learn how to program this (unsucessful with chat-gpt).. so was wondering what might be the easiest for a beginner? Javascript seems to have (by far) the most charting libraries (ggplot, Observable, D3, plotly.js etc), but python has gnuplot-py, matplotlib. In the end, I need to chart *AND* have a gui that allows the data to be selectively shown or not!
Very cool!
Poor dude looking at nothing not able to talk for 10 minutes hurts man
