I Dont Understand This Version Is Only Played In 1958 Movie A Night To Remember, And Bethany Version Of This Played In Many Movies

Although a touching piece, Autumn would seem to be out of place at such a grim time...The beautiful Welsh hymn Nearer My God To Thee would seem more appropriate considering the moment...

It's one of the many disgraces of Cameron's film that he chose the inferior American version of this hymn. Despicable.

Considering the band was British and only Wallace is confirmed to be methodist and is probably the only methodist band member, I believe this is the version played due to the fact that it would be the version they were all familiar with. Songe d'Automne was most likely played second to last due to the amount of people saying it was played last. Harold Bride walking out onto the deck and hearing Songe d'Automne would suggest that either it was played second to last or was started on then never finished, however he was also busy on lifeboat B and Songe d'Automne does sound similar to the start of the Horbury and Propior Deo (Methodist) version.

I was Lead to believe that the actual version of nearer my god to thee that was most likely played was probably the crossley version as this and the Methodist version are not the correct denomination of the band members. I do however like the Bethany version better.

5:48 This part is so chilling to me. It's almost as if this part of the song signifies that the end is near and that there is nothing left for the people still stuck onboard to do.

Perhaps both were played, Autumn before the first funnel collapsed, then Nearer My God to Thee before the ship broke in two. The trio played till the end did they not.

This is such a beautiful but haunting song. It really matches well with The Titanic.

This version comes 2nd to saddest Nearer My God to Thee the 1st saddest is the 1953 one due to everybody i mean EVERYBODY singing the song until the ships boiler exploded killing all onboard including the survivors such as Charles Lightoller, Lowe, Joseph Boxhall etc.

Im related to the main band leader Wallace Hartley. He was quite a religious man and claimed to have played the bethany version because that was the hymn they sung in his church.

The correct 1862 British tune "Horbury" of the great hymn "Nearer My God To Thee" as hauntingly played by the heroic British band of the RMS Titanic as they sank into the sea in 1912..I've played this for many a Funeral (and some weddings) for some 30 Years from 1984 to 2014..

15th of april, year 1912 around an hour after midnight Ocean liner R.M.S Titanic has met her fate. The boat deck is flooding rapidly. People are screaming in horror, while this beautiful "unsinkable" ship slips beneath the waves. Collapsible boats are being used as fast as possible. Last distress calls were sent. Soon after stern has risen above the surface, and her lights went out around 2:10 am. At 2:13 she split and finally sunk in 2:20. People in the lifeboats could only hear screaming and metal groaning. Painful screams becoming quieter minute after minute until there was complete silence and darkness. It is around 3:30 am in the morning. Small Ocean liner named R.M.S Carpathia Has arrived, to rescue 703 survivors.

I think the mystery of what song was playing when the Titanic sank is interesting. In the UK we tend to sing the hymn to the Bethany tune, but in America they apparently sing it to a different tune. The thing is that a lot of surviving passengers on the Titanic said they recognised the final piece of music as Nearer My God To The. However, some survivors said the last piece of music they heard was a piece called Autumn Dream, which was a waltz tune at the time.

Titanic by Lawrence Beesley, and The Sinking of the Titanic by 1912 survivor accounts. Yes I'm so into the Titanic be it sad but its very important to not forget them. To all the victims who perished when the Titanic sank - may they be forever remembered with compassion especially to those heroic men who instead of trying to save themselves, stood aside that women and children might have their chance; of each of them let it be written, as it was written of a greater one- " He Died that Others might Live"....To the unsung heroes - Captain Ronstron, his crew and the passengers of the Carpathia for their valiant rescue efforts. And most of all to the city of New York, where citizens banded together to alleviate the suffering of the survivors.

Waltz music was very popular in 1912. Just as rock and roll was popular later on. This music was composed by Archibald Joyce who wrote many waltzes and was dubbed "The English Waltz King." However. his style was more like Franz Lehar ("The Merry Widow") than Richard Strass II. The White Star Line Song Book contained several of his waltzes as they were very popular. The Titanic's band had strings and a piano but no brass or woodwind. Their music was different from the way the waltzes were originally written. I wonder how far they got into playing this. The last known person off of the ship who knew the pop culture of his day said this is what they were playing and I'll believe him over a little girl hearing similar chord changes. It makes a lot of sense that this is the very last song. It's a "pop song" of the era, it's a favorite of muscians that knew it at the time, and there's eyewitness testimony from the Marconi operator that this is the tune they played! To their doom! I respect and give props to all of the people that research all of this but given the accounts and that they compete between a little girl and a seasoned Marconi operator - -? I'm gonna go with that dude that was very probably one of the very last people to leave that doomed ship before She sunk beneath the waves.

Survivor Eva Hart said she recognized this song as the one that played last as Titanics boat deck plunged I got use to the Camerons version of Nearer my God to thee but now when I heard this version in this video, it really got me and made me cry
